hearsay this is the closest to Vietnam’s much cheaper and tastier banh mi. And indeed I can see why! The crusty-outside-soft-inside baguette 🥖 scored points. It was quite a challenge to stay near and glam munching into my lunch grub. I’ve tried the grilled lemongrass chicken once and going for it twice because it was just so good - the mix of sunny side, floss and well marinated lemongrass chicken. I wish there were more floss to go along tho! For veggie haters, you’ll be delighted to know that the veggies within are picklish and crunchy. It whets your appetite, doesn’t taste any close to a veggie. Just think of ‘wm as crispy collagen or bread sticks that complements the savoury bits so well. This, over preserved cold cuts from subway any time, any day!

PLAZA SINGAPURA | NAMNAM NOODLE BAR

Was walking around Plaza Singapura when I stumbled upon this open aired restaurant. Since I was craving for some noodle soup, I decided to give this Pho a try. Mind you, as someone who've been to borh Northern and Southern Vietnam and tried their authentic Pho, I have really high expectations of Pho. I ordered the Pho Australian Beef Slices & Balls. I was initially skeptical of it but wow the first sip of the broth blew me away. Don't be fooled by the clear or rather bland appearance of the broth - it was thin, nutritious and impossibly fragrant. The addition of Lime further enhanced the citric flavour of the otherwise already flavourful broth. The wheat noodles were soft, easy to chew and flavourful. Just wow! Although a little pricey than other Vietnamese restaurants selling at $12.90, this was the real deal and I would definitely come back for more.

I'd give this bowl a rating of 9/10! It was VFM!

Perfect as a sweet ending for two, this S$9.90 dessert was pretty amazing the moment I tried to scoop some ice cream up with the spoon, because it was actually quite sticky (texture a bit comparable with Sticky Chewy Chocolate). But what was really enjoyable about this dessert was what could be found at the bottom of the “coconut husk”: sticky rice, beans and red rubies? There was like some Thai influence to this dessert, but it was refreshing and fun nonetheless.

Given my very limited encounters with Vietnamese cuisine, it was a shame to say that this was my first encounter with Bahn Mi, which loosely translated to Vietnamese baguette sandwich.

The Caramelised 5-Spice Pork Belly Bahn Mi (S$9.90) was just scrumptious despite the humble price tag. Juicy pork belly slices were pressed with raw vegetables, coriander and pâtÊ between a sliced baguette with very crispy crust. The sounds of crunches came from both the bread as well as the vegetables, making the meal sensational amidst the ease of eating it without taking a toll on the jaw and teeth.

Hanoi style pho with Australian beef and meat balls. Tastes very similar to the pho I had in Hanoi.

Been awhile since I’ve been back here! Nam Nam introduced 2 sizes available - small and regular. Regular is the same size as it was before so I got that.

I really enjoyed Nam Nam’s pho - savory yet light broth with springy rice noodles. The beef slices were tender, but my fav would be their beef balls!
