📍Nanyang Kopi Kia Claypot Coffee, Alexendra Village Food Centre📍
💸 Kopi C Kosong: $1.80

Newly opened drinks stall at Alexendra Village Food Centre, pretty interesting as it brews its coffee in a claypot☕. We ordered our usual Kopi C, however we felt that the coffee taste was pretty mild. The milk they added feels a bit different too, as the Kopi C was a little sweet even though we ordered it with no sugar🧂. It's pretty good, but we probably won't come back for it as we prefer stronger coffee😅. The waiting time for this can get a little long too as their coffee is brewed in small batches using the claypot🙂!

Took notice of this seemingly new stall named Nanyang Kopi Kia Claypot Coffee within Alexandra Village Food Centre the other day — the stall being located at the corner of the next row of shop units next to Ashes Burnnit. Searching about the establishment online reveals that they do have another outlet that exists within Scuba People at Blk 333 Kreta Ayer Road that is a short walk away from Maxwell MRT Station on the Thomson-East Coast Line — the same location which Butler Koffee used to have occupied before its move to within Beng Who Cooks before they have moved out to become their own establishment at Havelock II. Whilst we had initially wanted to visit the Kreta Ayer Road location, we found ourselves heading to the Alexandra Village Food Centre one instead considering how the Kreta Ayer location does not open on a Sunday. While the menu at Nanyang Kopi Kia features a variety of hot and cold drinks that one would usually find in a beverage stall at a hawker centre setting — think your usual Nanyang-style Kopi and Teh offerings apart from canned drinks as well as Thai Milk Tea, the highlight at Nanyang Kopi Kia Claypot Coffee would be their claypot-brewed coffee; something that is fresh to the local dining scene, though done before in Malaysia.

Given the namesake of the item is, it is without a doubt that the item that drew much attention for us would be the Signature Ice Kopi. Served default in a takeaway cup with a dome lid, we did notice a bit of the preparation process and noted the use of fresh milk in their Signature Ice Kopi amongst other items that went into the making of the beverage as well. Being all thick and frothy, the Signature Ice Kopi was pretty comparable to the Iced Ipoh White Coffee that we have tried from other locations. First sip of the beverage and one would be hit by quite a strong caffeinated kick; thereafter, there is quite a prominent undertone of dairy that follows shortly — likely from the inclusion of fresh milk. The sweetness of the beverage was pretty controlled; nothing too sweet and just about balanced enough to gel all of the elements together. Costing $3.50, we would say that the the Signature Ice Kopi does somewhat felt deserving of its price tag especially considering how other establishments seem to price similar inventive versions of Nanyang-style Kopi in the same way, though it would probably be wiser for us to have opted the usual Kopi from the hot drinks menu to better experience the difference between claypot-brewed coffee against the usual (or some say traditional) way of brewing Nanyang style coffee — maybe something which we will consider doing if we decide to drop by their Kreta Ayer outlet some other day!
