From Waa Cow:
The beef did not have the signature โ€œbutterynessโ€ of wagyu , it was only slight tender and juicy with a charred taste. Iโ€™m no beef expert but Iโ€™ve had better wagyu.

The rest of the ingredients were mehhh

Therefore, as an average food enthusiast, this is really not worth it for me.

Popped-by the cloud kitchen for a bowl of chirashi don with loads of diced salmon, tuna, octopus, shrimp thatโ€™s lightly torched, tossed with mentaiko sauce and topped off tobiko, ikura and spring onions. Lovingโ€™ it. โฃ๏ธ

Can you believe that you could now find teishoku in coffee shop? Thanks to Maruhachi for offering affordable Japanese foods around our neighbourhoods.

They have expanded to a few outlets recently, with one outlet located in Bukit Gombak area.

While they specialise with their curry and donburi, Iโ€™m quite surprised to see them serving teishoku as well. A traditional Japanese meal with tonkotsu set menu served with Japanese rice and miso soup.

The pork katsu was super crunchy and juicy and consider very cheap for only $11.80.

Serving restaurant quality Japanese Katsu in the heartlands at a wallet-friendly price! While I felt nothing extraordinary about the rice, the slab of chicken katsu was definitely the highlight. Unlike the usual breaded crispiness, the use of panko for its batter contributed a contrastingly light crisp to the juicy chicken meat. Curry here was tasty and the spice flavour but leaned towards the watery consistency. Still quite decent for a neighborhood katsu place.

If you're a fan of curry, their ๐—–๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ฟ๐˜† ๐—ฅ๐—ถ๐—ฐ๐—ฒ also arrives doused in a deluge of moreish curry blessed by a pleasant twinge of sweetness โ€” textbook Japanese, really.

While plain and simple is my preferred style for tonkatsu, I am also partial to their ๐—ฆ๐—ฝ๐—ฒ๐—ฐ๐—ถ๐—ฎ๐—น ๐—ฃ๐—ผ๐—ฟ๐—ธ ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€๐˜‚ ๐——๐—ผ๐—ป ($12.80) which introduces velvety egg texture that plays a perfect foil to the pork cutlets.

Stunningly good ๐—ž๐˜‚๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ฏ๐˜‚๐˜๐—ฎ ๐—ž๐—ฎ๐˜๐˜€๐˜‚ ๐—ฆ๐—ฒ๐˜ for just $15.80, way below market rate at similar-quality restaurants. The catch is that they are a hawker stall. This hidden gem is relatively new but has a deep history โ€” the chef actually headed Ginza Bairin at ION, now defunct but used to be my go-to for tonkatsu.

It's easy to fall in love with their signature katsu, seducing with titillatingly orange robes of ragged ridges. They let out the most melodious of crackles as your incisors clamp down on the airy pockets between the crispy panko debris. Once through, you're greeted by a tender but assertive recoil that is just sublime.

Possibly the best value for money you can get for tonkatsu around SG, along with Hajime. Its ensemble of Japanese rice, tonkatsu sauce, mustard, and miso soup even trumps that of stalwarts like Tonkichi. Of course, don't expect a culinary revelation for $15 but this is a stall that punches significantly above their price point.

Visited Maruhachi Donburi & Curry 2 days in a row. This time round, I ordered the katsu don topped with eggy and tender panko-crusted pork cutlet, sautรฉed onions simmered in dashi-sweet soy sauce & a runny onsen egg. Sinful and yummy!

Rewarding myself with my FAVOURITE deep-fried cutlet and oysters! And who says coffeeshops donโ€™t serve yums Japanese food?! Iโ€™m thrilled that Maruhachi Donburi & Curry has opened an outlet in the West and their crumbly and crispy katsu with tender bite & fats that almost melt-in-your-mouth was simply WOW. ๐Ÿคฉ

One of my go-to orders at Umi Sushi because it is quick (no prep time needed), affordable and contains my favourite ingredients.

Price: $4.20
