Simple ramen nothing fantastic but it is inexpensive

Chicken > pork. Pork slightly dry. Comes w rice, refillable miso soup, 2 ebi (so fresh), 2 fried oysters (my partner says this is good), 2 karaage (not crispy/hot)

Unfortunately this Japanese nasi lemak stall helmed by young men has shuttered. Good food, generous and value for money. This was one of their special items. I could tell it's not very professional, yet the heart and soul were very clear. I really enjoyed it.

A Malaysian chicken rice stall replacing the chicken rice ball stall. Note this is a special order. The horfun and tau gey were generous. Great meatballs and soup too. The chicken was too boney for my liking, but not much wrong with it.

This stall just gets worse and worse. The priciest item! But the beef was tough and rubbery. The seasoning was also cheap. I should just stick to the spicy buta don.

The katsu was large, but that's about the strengths of this dish. The rest just seemed like a half-hearted attempt at Japanese cuisine.

Okay their Japanese is better than their pao fan. It's not the best and there's something inauthentic about it but it's enjoyable at least.

The main outlet at Serangoon was great value so I tried this. It's still cheap, but the wow factor has been moderated. This was as average as average is. I appreciate the beef pieces but they're very normal.

Interesting concept. It's nasi lemak for sure, just featuring Japanese elements. I was told to go straight for the karaage, and it's true, other items looked uninspired. It was juicy, crispy and has a coating that's probably cheap but yummy haha. As pictured, there are also spinach, ajitama, pickles and the quintessential chilli. The last was spicy but good, likely homemade. The rice can be considered decent too.

The canteen has reopened after changing hands and renovating into a hipster foodcourt. There are some unopened stalls bearing famous signboards, so there's some excitement. But for now it's just pao fan and Japanese. It's definitely not a good start when this dish was so terrible. I'm not sure who's cooking because I see the young operators running the cash registers and the drinks stall, but this cook doesn't know pao fan. The "rice puffs" were an imitation and I didn't know what they were. The seafood were all sketchy, being overly fishy. Expect the soup to be more regular fare than pao fan broth. It's early days and I hope they get their act together, else they're gonna lose money.
