Slice of grilled freshwater eel glazed with eel sauce served on a bed of rice, onsen egg, red pickled ginger then topped with nori and white sesame seed. The eel was tender with slightly crisp skin. The addition of onsen egg adds creaminess to the bowl 》$19.90

A generous portion of sashimi cubes with a good selection of raw fish. The fishes were fresh and it also comes with salad and miso soup to complete the meal. It’s not the best but worth considering if you want somewhere decent and quiet to satisfy your donburi cravings 》$19.90

Very generous portions were given and the food tasted great! Was surprised to see the shop fairly empty on a Saturday night, but it’s definitely worth visiting especially with Burpple. The highballs were also well balanced, not too diluted nor too much.

📍Monochrome Cafe
- Monochrome’s Brunch🧇
- Aglio e Olio with Bacon🥓
- Mentaiko Fries🍟
- Flat White☕️
- Osmanthus Sencha🍵

The brunch was quite filling, a tad too sweet cos of the maple syrup, sausage was good, good for sharing…

On the Aglio Olio, the pasta was al dente but overall it was a bit too oily and greasy…

As for the mentaiko fries, we find it quite salty…

The flat white was decent though, light to medium body with nutty finish…

Overall, a small cozy cafe for photo-taking, Instagram-worthy but food and drinks wise, so-so…

Damage: $53.50

Both drinks were fizzy and quite refreshing - a great accompaniment to our savoury rice bowls. It was a little bit diluted but otherwise was a standard highball.

Do note that the drinks for the Burpple deal is only applicable for alcohol drinks.

We visited on a weekday evening and it wasn’t too crowded although I did notice a fair amount of reservations in the indoor seating area. I actually preferred the outdoor seating, as the ambience was amazing, with the Japanese lanterns hanging at the top and all. Service was great too, the staff were very friendly.

A solid unagi bowl, yum! The saucy unagi was great, and the onsen egg really added that creaminess to the dish. I thought that the ratio of sauce and seasoning to rice was perfect - the amount of it was such that the Japanese rice was adequately flavoured and moistened, but not to an overwhelming amount.
I appreciated this very much, because sometimes with other bowls, I find myself struggling to finish large amounts of white rice with no more sauce to accompany it with. But over here they did it well!

Worth it with the Burpple deal - you can pick any 2 dons from the donburi category and any 2 alcoholic drinks from the beer/highball category.

used burpple’s 1-for-1 here, and got a rice bowl along with a drink. the teriyaki chicken was quite salty, but paired quite well with the rice and onsen egg. tried the beef from my brother’s bowl, tastes good but a bit more pricey @24.99

very cosy ambiance, right next to the bus stop

We used the 5 kinds of sushi/yakitori promo, and they allowed us to mix (one set sushi, one set yakitori). Sushi was fresh, and yakitori was good! 7/10

We also ordered the garlic fried rice. Whats unique is its crispier than most garlic fried rice as there were lots of shallots and fried crispy garlic. Same may prefer it, some may not, but id say 8/10

I also reccomended the salmon mentai maki $19.90 (9/10). Slightly torched, with cripsy ebi inside, and generous portion with a burst of crispy and juicy goodness with every bite. One of my fav sushi and ill be back for this!
