Kao Ge Yu offers a variety of 𝘣𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘧𝘦𝘯 (jelly) as desserts and they are a must try. Sweet and refreshing, the 𝗢𝘀𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗵𝘂𝘀 𝗦𝗮𝗻𝘅𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗲𝗻 ($5.80) was exceedingly enticing and perfect for beating the heat.

We also liked the 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗽𝘆 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗼𝗽𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻 ($7.80), which were absolutely addictive.

The 𝗠𝗮𝗹𝗮 𝗦𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗽 𝗦𝗵𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗽 ($19.80) was a winner. The fresh prawns, beautifully butterflied, and scallops, served with glass noodles, had their flavours enhanced by the scrumptiously spicy sauce.

Among the grilled fish flavours, the Classic Sauerkraut is an astute choice, while the Chongqing and the Hot Mala are ideal for those who like to set their tongues on fire. We picked the wildly popular 𝗦𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗦𝗶𝗰𝗵𝘂𝗮𝗻 𝗚𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗻 𝗣𝗲𝗽𝗽𝗲𝗿.

We had the Set Meal For One ($28), which was actually big enough for two, so I’m guessing the Set Meal For Two ($48) can feed four. The meaty Seabass, sensationally soft and moist, soaked up the delicious flavours of the broth (just mildly spicy IMO).

Formerly a hawker stall, Kao Ge Yu is now a restaurant with two outlets. Specialising in grilled fish in different flavours, it also offers some side dishes and desserts.

Yes this place is famous for its wanton noodles, but they make a mean, solid carrot cake that is to die for. $5.70 is indeed pricey, but you get a sizeable portion of eggy, crispy, and perfectly balanced white. add of cake. Carrot cake itself has nice bite to it, but also a wonderful wok hei flavour. With that slight umami taste from the preserved radish and the fragrant, spicy, chilli, this dish from Wanton Noodle House is truly my guilty pleasure.

Satisfy your cravings on the go at EPIKebabs, where delicious kebabs meet convenience! Find them at East Village, offering Halal delights with a convenient takeaway option. Vegetarian-friendly choices are available, and don't miss our tempting $15 set deal.

There’s 2 places here that sell their signature mee pok under very similar name.

One of them is now located inside the marketplace, while another one continue to serve at their own shop at street level.

This one is from 304 Bedok Road, which I couldn’t find the exact venue page on Burpple for this, so I’m going to write my review here instead.

A very simple and small bowl of mee pok comes with the minced meats, fishball and fish cake without prawn. Served with mee pok and soup.

Really enjoy the texture of the noodles, as well as the fishball and fish cake.

Their Special Shio Ramen is well-balanced - flavourful yet clean with a nuanced saltiness that doesn't overwhelm your tastebuds or leave you thirsty. It goes really well with their toothsome noodles, and I cleared the entire bowl without realising it. 😅 More importantly, these thick char siu slices adorning the bowl be BUSSIN' HARD! Every slice is not overly fatty and takes on a soft, melt-in-the-mouth consistency, with the rich meaty flavours intensified by a smoky caramelisation from the blowtorch. It's so SHIO-k that I wouldn't mind dropping by for a 2nd bowl despite being a Westie! 🍜

My only gripe was the service - I'd arrived at 8:40PM & was talking to the 2 others with me, asking them for their orders… The lady with glasses standing at the cash register barked at me telling me that they close at 9, insinuating that I need to hurry TF up. Very grumpy & curt, to the extent that I was quite taken aback.

It's not a matter of what you say (I obviously understand that I shouldn't take 21 minutes to order), but how you say it.

Regardless, I'd come back again... Just not expect any warm or polite kind of service, I suppose.

Wanton Noodle House is listed as closed on Tuesdays, but by some stroke of luck - they were open when I swung by. My colleague, against all logic, encouraged me to "try (my) luck" - turns out that they are only closed every alternate Tuesdays.

I'd seen this on a Hungrygowhere Instagram reel, & it looked fairly promising. Since it was nearby, I gave it a shot.

Despite its namesake, I ended up ordering Shrimp Dumpling Noodles 水饺面 ($5.70 nett), as I much prefer dumplings to wantons (+ am also not a fan of charsiew). These dumplings were meaty & delicious; most importantly, the meat wasn’t smelly. The sauce was good too, coating the al dente mee kia nicely.

I also enjoyed how the soup is pretty tasty - with some kind of umami that is welcomed, & not a bowl of MSG water that many places serve. If you order the soup-noodles version, or just the dumpling soup without noodles, it'd certainly be an above average dish.

From Buddies Chef Grill
The wagyu beef burger served with paprika fries & fluffy charcoal bun from the neighbourhood restaurant is juicy, tender, and a delicious choice for burger enthusiasts.
Highly recommended!
