Fook Kin on a Friday night. There's still available seats when we left before 8pm.
2nd time I was there, Char Siew was good as ever. Slight crisp tender meat with lotsa fats. Herbal Duck was a tad dry. Roast pork was crispy and thats it. Nothing special for the Curry Maggi mee. Overall meh, won't be back if I'm not ard the area. Ard $72 for quarter herbal duck, roast pork & char view combi, curry instant noodle w roast pork n a mineral water.
rosti still my favourite. chose the cheesy chicken sausage and the veal sausage which were both good
that carbonara was okay, maybe more bacon would be better
the caramelised exterior is sweet w chewy edges. the inside is dense but vvv soft, buttery and fragrant!
Now this is one hidden gem in town you need to go to! Despite being located just a stone throw away from orchard central, the prices, quality and portions were all really good š Here were some of my favourites:
Deep Fried Chicken with Garlic ($8.50) - this is one of the best renditions I've had from a Thai restaurant. The batter was light and crispy, and the chicken inside stayed really moist and flavourful. This was extremely addictive š
Deep Fried Sliced Fish with Sweet and Sour Sauce ($16) - the fish slices were flaky and super crispy š absolutely loved the sauce as it was tangy, making it not too surfeiting. A very good dish to order to share!
Olive Fried Rice ($8.50) - I loved how the rice was not clumpy and filled with savoury fermented olive flavour and some smokiness. The portion was pretty huge so you can order this to share!
All the dishes ordered were hits š„¹ I can't believe I only know of this place now! Definitely coming back to try other dishes š
Broth and mixian were alright, beef slices were too tough, not premium at all
Add minced meat +1++, beef tendon +4.8++ and bursting meatballs +3.8++
This is my third time eating so I think I have to be honest w myself now. It's the case where the ingredients are all good, from the springy noodles to the well seasoned minced meat and the gooey century egg. But they don't work particularly well tgt because the noodles don't physically mix w the ingredients, the century egg doesnt mesh well, not contributing to the overall taste profile much and the chili was way too spicy. Nothing is particularly jarring cos they all don't have too much character
Beef tendon and bursting meatballs were both alright not impressive
So fresh with a homemade sauce.
The matcha ganache was so damn thick and rich. Absolutely lovely
Jjamppong had a savory spicy broth, smoky aroma, and depth of seafood flavour. Also enjoyed the assortment of seafood.
Jjajangmyeon was lighter on the palette with the use of more lean meat (opposed to fattier cuts in other restaurants). While not as flavour-packed or with wok hei, it was earthy tasting and still enjoyable. Would recommend going for their more affordable lunch sets as dinner time this was $15+
Tangsuyuk (small)
light crispy skin. sauce can be a little more tangy
jjajangmyeon (small)
texture of noodles is good
plenty of sauce with meat
