Must try – Chilli Crab and Man Tou, US Black Angus Rib Eye Beef, “Heart Attack” Fried Rice, BBQ Kurobuta Pork Ribs, Hokkien Mee

Such a pity b’cos it was our only go-to outlet where the standards were good and consistent. Also enjoyed the laid-back surrounding with the greens beside the carpark building.
Gonna be looking forward to where this shifts to for our favourite Hokkien prawn mee.

As a saying goes, it takes 2 hands to clap and this phrase definitely tell the whole relationship of these pair. Thick slices of US beef was roasted to medium and paired it with New Ubin signature heart attack fried rice. A mouth of slightly chewy beef meat and another mouthful of nice fragance rice added another dimension to the taste. Though, i must say, the fried rice is a tad too oily because of the beef lad.

And we would suggest this outlet b’cos they have never failed us in delivering consistent, delicious dishes.
Their fried garlic prawns are highly recommended. Amazingly cooked so crispy the whole prawn could be eaten with the shell; while the meat inside was still tender.
Besides their steak, the lamb rack remained our must-order for that smokey grilled goodness.
Finally, the fried prawn mee was another of our must-eat at New Ubin, although we had bad experience at the ZhongShan outlet. Nevertheless, we can confidently say that one will not be disappointed here at Hillview’s.

From their dress-down vibes to the corkage-free BYOB policy and refined fusion fare, New Ubin is zi char king. Come prepared to splurge on the US Black Angus Ribeye Steak (from $84 for 600g), which comes with a side of the Heart Attack Fried Rice — cooked in beef fat for extra oomph. Also not to be missed, the smoke-kissed Boss Beehoon ($9).

Ordered the pictured dishes plus the smoked pork omelet (which is just an omelette with bacon) and an iced lemon tea. The bill came up to a whooping $114!!!!
I have to say that all the dishes were very good except the omelette, I didn’t like the bacon on it, had plenty of soft bones and I didn’t think that bacon was a good combination, it tasted more like a breakfast dish.
Service was very good, however, if you’re just looking for your Zi char fix, for this price and quality, there are so many better places to go.

If you like your Hokkien noodles wet then you will love this! Love that this came with clams unlike any other Hokkien mee. Clams made the broth a lot sweeter & tastier. The second last time I had this, I was disappointed & could taste a difference. I gave them my feedback & found out their chefs has changed so I stopped going for a while. Returned again recently with my Indonesian friends that were visiting & standard has picked up once again. My Indonesian Friend thought it was the best Hokkien mee he had as he was a fan of wet styled. How about you? Do you rather dry or wet Hokkien mee?

Salted egg squid- the “wet” version. Unlike the usual deep fried sotong in salted egg yolk-batter, New Ubin does it w a different twist! The squids -non deep fried- are coated with thick, salted egg yolk paste (not the watered-down kinda salted egg yolk sauce!) The pic says it all.

Yummilicious and you can’t go wrong with the plate of deep fried delight. Fingers linkin’ good. Medium size, approx 12 pieces

Oat-battered chicken burger topped with a signature salted egg sauce served with tomato, lettuce and onion between a sesame bun.

Chunks of luscious foie gras with a raspberry dip and pieces of toast to mop up all those juices. While the quality of the foie varies, it’s pretty much an affordable piece of bliss. Simply put, it in your mouth.

carbonara in a claypot! the small serving ($19++) comfortably feeds two, and you get a heaping amount of noodles drenched in a creamy sauce topped with bits of smoked bacon. the egg yolk adds some richness, and claypot ensures the food remains piping hot! pretty tasty but it can get quite jelak after a few spoonfuls of pasta. but there’s so much else to order at new ubin that your tastebuds will never go hungry!

The ingredients used in their Hokkien Mee were bigger and better. Whole baby sotong, big prawns, clams and pork belly (rarely get this in most other Hokkien Mee nowadays). And the umami in the thick tasty gravy was just fabulous. Must eat with their chunky deep fried pork lards which were just too good to be missed.
Despite the shift, liked that they have retained some of their distinct interior from the previous place. And also nice to see some familiar friendly faces again amongst their staff.

Had US angus beef rib eye (600g, $84), small har cheong kai ($15), small salted egg squid ($16) and fried baby kailan (small, $8). Were surprised when we saw the fried rice that comes together with the beef but unfortunately it tastes a bit burnt. The beef is tender but was cut into small pieces - i wish i could have a bigger piece! The har cheong kai is done very nicely - with crispy skin and juicy texture, i think it is a must to be ordered! Don’t particularly enjoy the salted egg squid as we think the sauce is too thick. Roughly $37 for each, definitely not the cheapest zi char but is quite reasonable considering the quality.

New Ubin Seafood’s new location at Lam Soon Industrial Building in Hillview is a little difficult to get to but that does not stop foodies in Singapore from flocking to the restaurant. Some of their most popular and recommended dishes are Black/White Pepper Crab, Garlic Baked Crab and US Black Angus Ribeye Steak. Please read my review at www.hungryghost.sg

The Boss Beehoon ($9), hokkien mee ($14) and Har cheong gai ($15). The smokey wok hei from the boss Beehoon is commendable. The Har cheong gai nicely done. I personally find the hokkien mee not as good as some hawker stalls. We spend about $25 per pax. Quite ex, given only 3 dishes.

This is my second time trying this and boy, what a great disappointment. A huge contrast from the first time one year ago, when the meat was tender and fell off the bone easily. This one was hard to bite and chew, sauce was ordinary hickory BBQ style. Hope the standard goes back up again.
Thumbs down 👎🏼

Well marinated and nicely fried HCG, good crunch, not overly oily and the chicken was fresh and juicy. Regretted ordering the medium size (12pc) for 7 of us. Should have gone for the largest!
