Chong Qing Chicken/La Zi ChickenWith Soup Set ($5.50):
Chicken is deep fried with dried chillies, garlic and ginger. It is not just fragrant but also rather delicious, goes well with a bowl of rice. The pork rib soup “balances” the chicken dish.

Even though the menu is so extensive, I order the same things when I'm here: the deep fried pork (南乳炸肉, so so good), tomato egg, garlic pork belly (蒜泥白肉), and of course the xiaolongbao soup dumplings. Prices have increased slightly over the years, but it's still way cheaper than dintaifung! Opens late into the night, prices nett.

So simple, yet so good! Awesome for supper. (7.5/10)

This unassuming quiet restaurant along beach road (took forever but I finally found the location tag!!) serves up a pretty mean plate of mapo tofu - I actually preferred it to shisen hanten's rendition because I felt that the favours were more subtle (the shisen hanten one is very in-your-face mala and your tongue is almost guaranteed to be numb). I guess it's up to personal preference!

Recommended to this place by a friend. Hear that the Chinese owners spent 20 years in Japan. The offer the a wide range of Chinese fare that goes really well with a glass of beer. The jiajiangmian was delicious! Loved the minced meat that went very well with the springy noodles.
