I’m still completely baffled as to why Aussies are completely batschnit crazy about schnitzels. From the humble chicken schnitzel, to pork, to veal, and even vegan schnitzels (HERESY), nearly every single restaurant, cafe and greasy spoon has this breaded, battered and thoroughly pounded deep fried treat.

Northern Star Hotel appears to serve up one of the better schnitzels (A$16.50 with a nice half pint of beer thrown in for free) round town. They beat their meat till it’s nice and flat before they coat it in a delicious breading and deep fry it till it reaches golden brown perfection.

The massive chicken schnitzel is remarkably moist for the most part, but it can get slightly dry at some points. Fret not, however, as each order of schnitzel does come with a little pot of superbly savory sauce on the side.

Pair that up with thick cut fries and a humongous salad on the side, and you’ve got one helluva gut busting meal that’ll satisfy your tastebuds.
