However was a little disappointed that it was a bit dry :/ the prawns were okay, though not the freshest I've had. But it's good that they kept the Phad Thai non-spicy by default, then serve the chilli flakes by the side to cater to those who'd want a more fiery kick!

Nothing spells comfort food quite like a warm slow-cooked beef curry with vegetables. And paired alongside a substantial dose of carbs to complete the meal (choice of whole grain rice, white rice or roti), the item is exactly what the recent rainy weather calls for.

Catering mainly to the CBD lunch crowd, Ocha Fresh Thai’s Magic Masaman ($12) is ideal for those, like me, who can’t handle spices. Creamy, nutty and savoury, the signature dish was loaded with tender chunks of beef, potatoes and crunchy peanuts. The mild sweetness of ingredients also made it an easy crowd-pleaser, suitable for both the young and old. Warm and crisp, the roti (+$1) may be a less healthy option but certainly offered a nice textural contrast to the fragrant curry.

Round up the colleagues for team lunch! This new Thai joint within Frasers Tower dishes up what Burppler Darren A calls “the best Pad Thai in town”. It's a perfect balance of sweet, smoky and savoury.

Curry was a little too salty and not as spicy, but pretty tasty as a pairing to the rice nonetheless. Served with vegetables, whole grain rice and a choice of protein - prawns, grilled chicken, pork cutlet, pan-fried salmon (+$3) or grilled tofu (-$1). We had the pork cutlet which was decently tender and well seasoned.

Another classic Thai appetiser! It was refreshing, tangy and spicy, just the way it should be. Enjoyed the different textures of long beans, flat strips of sliced papaya and cherry tomatoes. The portion here is for their lunch top up but thought it could be bigger.

Loving the Original Pad Thai ($12), their non-spicy rendition certainly hit the spot. The key being the firm, chewy bite of the rice noodles and perfectly balanced flavours. Sourness from the lime, sweetness and savouriness of the sauce all played off one another harmoniously, with additional hints of smokiness/wok hei; as more often than not the seasoning tends to be a little one-dimensional and saccharine. Served on the sides were also crushed peanuts and chillies for that extra oomph. What’s more with a choice of protein, the noodles comes with options such as Grilled Chicken, Pan-fried Salmon (+$3), Prawns and Grilled Tofu (-$1) for a vegetarian/meatless alternative.

So with your weekday lunch spot settled, you should definitely grab a friend down to the CBD and enjoy 1-for-1 Burpple Beyond deals on their main dishes.

Many thanks to ochafreshthaisg for having us and Burpple for the invite!
