From the Burpple community

An unassuming stall with just some green jellies, red bean, a tub of coconut milk and gula melaka (brown sugar) scooped onto ice, BUT not all Chendols are made equal. It’s a burst of flavour. Complex, gratifying and my happiness index surged in a second. That green chendol jelly is was like how good nonya kuehs taste- a tad salty, keeps you going. Definitely far from the usual boring plain flour -taste-like-nothing kind. A definite must try if you’re in that complex.

$2 for a bowl of chendol!

The shaved ice dessert is made of pandan jelly “worms”, Azuki beans and cold-pressing coconut milk. Drenched in a smoky gula melaka with finely crushed ice, the chendol fragrant and red beans aren’t too sweet either.

Old amoy chendol uses azuki red beans sourced from Japan and the green chendol tastes legit!! 😱 Not like those cheapo neon green one you buy from fairprice MUAHAH gula melaka was generously served *sweet* 👌 overall, the fragrance of each element melt really well together in your mouth.
🍧
Nonetheless i'll still opt for my Nyona Chendol franchise which you see everywhere in hawker centres as they provide a bigger serving for the same price and almost the same taste 🤑

I'll get this again when i'm back in chinatown feeling expensive for $2 and hot for a dessert :D yalls give it a try too cause it's good food served by a young hawker 🥰 (thanks OGS for letting us find out about this ice gemmmmmmm)

Hot day
Lucky got this although the ice has melted during the delivery

♥️😚 Local favourite dessert - Chendol (S$2). Portion size is just right and not too much as this is a very rich dessert.

Combined with the sweetness of the red beans, palm sugar, pandan jelly & coconut milk it makes a great dessert to have on a hot day. Requested for less sugar, as i find the red beans were already quite sweet. Must try if you visit this hawker centre.

On the eve of National Day, i get to enjoy the scenic view of Gardens by the Bay form the Kallang PCN we woke up at 6am to “explore”. Then had breakfast at one of the better brunch places in Singapore - enter Sarnies, before walking to Chinatown and have my Singaporean Kopi after a milky, cafe masala chai latte. This was not before stopping by this non descript chiffon and roll cake stall which had Dr Leslie Tay’s article displayed- at $1.80 per slice of chiffon I found this one of the softest chiffons I’ve had and was very pleased.

At Chinatown complex food centre I had only space for desserts so the chendol that Our Grandfather Story featured we had to try. It was a good bowl of chendol at $2 considering how the slightly savoury pandan tadpole jellies are handmade.

But my win for the day was Xin Xuan’s Min Chiang Kueh, I love pancakes so corollary, I love Chinese pancakes. The ones here are soft and delicious that it made me feel like they were everything I could have ever wanted.

#HappyNationalDay I do love the country I live in✨
