Very nice satay bee hoon and mee siam, newly moved to tampines

Everyone queue for their mee siam but their satay beehoon is not bad too

Queue was more than 10 deep even before lunch time at 11am today. After waiting for more than 20 mins, I order the large portion of satay bee Hoon at $6.50. And it was generous in terms of the ingredients but not so much the bee hoon.

The peanut sauce was fragrant with strong taste of groundnut. There were three large pieces of liver, two shrimps, several slices of pork, about 6 to 7 cockles and kang kong. The shrimps were crunchy sweet but the liver was a tad under cooked. I like it but it’s not for the faint hearted. The cockle were similarly balanced but being smaller, they were slightly better than the liver. The star of the dish was the sliced pork, which is surprising, given the ubiquitousness of this ingredient. The meat was very tender and slightly salty, so it goes very well with the slightly sweet peanut sauce.

By now I understand why there is such a long queue. It is easily one of the best satay bee hoon in Singapore. One improvement needed is to add cuttlefish which they sorely lacked. And according to owner, they no longer sell Kang Kong Cuttlefish which is sort of standard for satay bee hoon stalls.

Still I am happy with my satay bee hoon and I want to come back and try their mee siam.

I find ghim Moh market an interesting place.

A few stalls have garnered lots of attention and continue to draw Long crowds but quite sadly they don’t meet my standards - including the duck rice and the Chee kueh .

If anything service was really nice at old Teochew but the mee siam was a let down .

Missing the tangy-ness of a good new siam and a watered down mee siam sauce which was too milky - almost like Carnation milk was added in .

Maybe they are better for their Satay bee hoon perhaps ???

The best no frills mee siam is still from Killiney road Kopitiam at Killiney road.

Decent bowl of Mee Siam ($3.00) The uncle thoughtfully helps to squeeze the calamansi lime before serving.

Because this is the Chinese version, the broth is not as intense as their Malay cousin. Although more sour than sweet, the sourness from the assam is still quite tame. On the whole, the taste is subtle enough for people who does not want their mee siam ($3) to be too sour or too sweet.
