From the Burpple community

Known for their locally sourced & freshly harvested ingredients, I was keen to try the Sweet Potato 🍠 Tortellini at @openfarmcommunity but unfortunately it was not available. 😭😭😭 The crew went along the line of pastas & proposed a swap to Bolognese, which was in the kids menu but they could upsize it to adult portion. πŸ‘ŒπŸ»
.
Priced at $26++, the portion was decent & I must say that they were pretty generous with the ingredients - lots of bolognese sauce doused over the heap of pasta. 🍝🍝🍝 While I’ve always liked my pasta to be tomato-based, this was pretty one-dimensional & it got very heavy after a while. πŸ˜₯ It was a moment of enlightenment of why this was in the kids menu - & why it should remain that way.
.
The pasta was easily half the width of a normal flat pasta, almost akin to yellow mee used in lor mee - a size that is good for kids' bite. πŸ‘πŸ» Albeit having a nice firm bite, I felt that the pasta rendered too thick a mouthfeel as compared to normal broad pasta which are thinner & flatter. 😐
.
The plate was topped with some grated parmesan cheese πŸ§€, which added a light savoury element & some cheesy pull amidst the sweet meat sauce. πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹ This however also added to the heaviness of the carbs & meat which was a pretty dry combination to begin with, making the plate really cloying halfway through. πŸ˜₯
.
Would have appreciated an addition of some arugula/zucchini πŸ₯’ or crunchy greens πŸ₯¬ to make it more refreshing but then again, I was once again reminded that kids do not like vegetables. 🀣 Perhaps this slight tweak for adults’ version would be good! πŸ‘πŸ»
.
Personally felt that there were limited choices on their lunch menu - perhaps they could act on expanding it. For now, I guess I have learnt my lesson - sticking to the adults menu should be the way to go! πŸ‘ŒπŸ»

My picture doesn’t do it justice because you cannot tell that the homemade focaccia is close to a footlong! 🀀🀀🀀 Perhaps this helps to justify the price tag of this plate at $32++, which I thought was pretty reasonable for the portion. πŸ‘ŒπŸ»
.
The focaccia was really well-done, standing firm to withstand the weight of that generous slab of pulled beef. ❀❀❀ Crusty on the outside & fluffy on the inside, this buttery homemade bread was indeed a delightful one! 🍞
.
The star has got to be the slow-cooked pulled beef πŸ„ that they lay elegantly atop the focaccia. Albeit being pretty robust in flavours πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹πŸ˜‹, @openfarmcommunity would have aced this dish if the meats were a tad more succulent.
.
It is then topped with pickled cabbage & mustard dressing which elevates the heaviness from the meats, making it a more refreshing dish. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ» The side of fresh crunchy greens πŸ₯— helps to cleanse the palate before digging into this meaty plate again. πŸ’•

Almost the only time I hear of the word β€œBakkwa” (Chinese pork jerky) frequently is during Chinese New Year 🧧, so it was really amusing to see it in a brunch menu! If you are equally curious about what that entails, you can try The Waffle Bakkwa & Egg Stack ($26++) at @openfarmcommunity! 😍😍😍
.
Featuring 2 waffle toasts sandwiching a slab of homemade bakkwa πŸ–, a generous portion of scrambled egg 🍳, finished with some tomato jam, this proved to be a rather interesting combination. πŸ˜‰
.
Unlike the usual bakkwa sold at Bee Cheng Hiang/Lim Chee Guan, this is not overly sweetened with a honey glaze, nor is it laden with colouring. πŸ‘πŸ» Essentially, it is a slice of barbequed pork belly that resembles the iconic tough texture of a pork jerky, like bacon. πŸ₯“ Loved the smoky flavours & the char on the meat, but as I am personally not a fan of fatty meat, this was a tad too fatty for me. 🀣
.
Those creamy scrambled eggs 🍳 were the winner - just look at how moist they are! 🀀🀀🀀 Just lightly seasoned, they certainly pair well with the robust-tasting bakkwa. πŸ’• The waffle toasts were fluffy & chewy, just wished they were more crisp on the exterior. The tomato jam πŸ… rendered a nice sweet & tangy zest, complimenting the savoury bakkwa & making the overall combination a more refreshing one. πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»πŸ‘πŸ»
.
Overall not too bad, something special i guess! πŸ‘ŒπŸ» Do you like your waffles sweet or savoury, or both? πŸ€”

How often do you get to see farm-to-table kinda concept in Singapore? I can’t seem to remember what was the dish called on the first pic so I will skip to the next one β€” Tempura Jurong Frog Legs. These lovely legs were wrapped with a thin layer of tempura coating and half dipped into a bowl of Malay style curry. This was a starter and I honestly wished it was a main so that I could eat along with rice instead of pita bread.

This dish was served with a special sauce that brought out the Thai curry flavour and I thought that was pretty interesting. There’s also a rich creamy coconut taste, I reckon it’s better to devour while it’s hot!

Personally, I felt that the jam is a little overpowered the taste of the Duck Rillette but the crispy sourdough is so good, and this starter definitely makes you crave to eat more. β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €β €
