Finally jumping into the banwagon to try the hyped 脏脏包. Instead of the usual crossiant base, we opted for the custard puff base at the Original Cake with chocolate flavour as the only choice. Custard puff was coated with a thick layer of chocolate sauce and sprinkled with another thick layer of chocolate powder. The custard is definitely filling up the whole puff as it will stain my face everytime when i had a bite on the puff. Together with the double chocolate combo, this dirty custard puff has miximise it potential to “dirty” its eater! Probably will give the matcha dirty crossiant bun a try if i am at the right mood.

Throwback to lugging back castella cakes from across the borders, which has just opened in Westgate!

I've tried a few castella cakes except for Ah Ma (which has quietly opened in White Sands' basement whoa), but this is definitely the best so far. Not sure how it fares as compared to JB where I first had it (originates from Taiwan), but I'm glad they're here. Now I just need to find the time to travel to the Wild West?

But I do find myself thinking of this fluffy castella once in awhile. Swipe to see how jiggly it is! So light and definitely more generous with the cheese imo. Aaaaand I'm happy to report that it tastes good and still very soft even after a day or two. Also comes in original and chocolate - the latter using Hershey's chocolate chips and surprisingly isn't too sweet!

Having tried several renditions and variations, Original Cake's Cheese Castella (RM20) was one of the best in my opinion. Not very eggy, the texture of the sponge was superbly light and airy which makes it not that jelat when paired with the cheesy filling. The exterior also has a nice bit of toasted flavour to complement the sweet fluffiness within.

While people are queuing here in Singapore... here's a throwback to my eggy, jiggly, fluffy Castella cake dream from across the border!
