So... We went to IKEA to explore some furniture options and as we browsed through the isles of perfect homes decorated with mediocre soulless furnishings we got hungry.

We were pushed to find shelter and nourishing outside as the whole of Singapore seems to to think lining up for self-service food from IKEA is an exciting, exotic way to spend a Friday night.

We therefore stumbled across Otoko Ramen, a little Japanese restaurant right around the corner from the Swedish megastore.

Service was incredibly keen. They came with a bowl of six complimentary hard boiled eggs which make for a great snack before digging into their 20 hour brewed tonkotsu broth full of collagen and fat from the pork bones.

The broth is of the right thickness for my taste. I wish we could have customized the thickness and hardness of the noodles, but overall it’s such a better option than IKEA cardboard meatballs!

We also had a small salmon chirashi bowl and some edamame. Prices are decent.

This place is a great option if you find yourself swamped and need a short break from the little demon kids that bump around, crawl and yell all over the place in IKEA.

As with #mazesoba, it tends to get a bit jelat towards the end. But this is still less jelat than the one I tried at chinatown point.

Environment wise, this is a cozy little restaurant located on Level 1 of Park Hotel that has a mish mash of different shops on its 1st level which gives a messy impression.

If you spend above a certain amount, might be able to claim for free parking at their Customer Service Counter.

Priced at S$13.90 for a Medium portion, I liked how the Otoko Mazesoba was made to please. Although they stated that the Ramen was truffle-flavoured, the smell of chemicals was not overpowering at all. In fact, coupling the noodles with some of their Aburi Charshu in cubes was quite a good move for that torch blown smoky taste amidst the onsen egg.

Another way to uplift the overall fragrance was to garnish another one tablespoon of fried garlic that was provided by the side. And if some degree of sweetness would be appreciated, add on some butter corn for just $2.00 more, and it might be better off than spending the money on a Large size. Afraid of too small a portion? Hard boiled eggs are complimentary, just in case if you are not familiar with Ramen shops culture.

I was looking forward to visiting Otoko after my IKEA trip, and I'm glad to say I wasn't disappointed. I ordered the Tonkotsu Paitan ($12.90++) with Ajitama ($1.50++). The ramen is good. Every item was well executed, from the soup, chashu, to ajitama. It's nothing flashy, comparable to what you might get at typical ramen shops in Japan. I think that's already better than some of the big mall chain ramens. Would love to come back for another hearty bowl.

Ramen here was about above average I would say. Nothing special but a really solid version nonetheless. A tad expensive, ippudo would taste better at about the same price though. But if I were in the area having ramen, this is the place to go.

P.S. Not sure if I got the dish name right, feel free to correct me in the comments. πŸ˜…

Gyoza here was on point. Served at optimal temperature (what I really meant was it's hot). It really felt like I could smell the pan the gyozas were cooked in the moment I put a piece of this in my mouth. I could taste the sweetness of the pork and the freshness of the almost-burnt skin just in one bite. Highly recommend. πŸ˜‹
