Unique experience in this market where you can DIY your own lunch box. Must visit market for homely food cooked by ajummas 👵🏻

Simply exchange 5,000won for 10 tokens which can be spent in the alley. Dishes typically cost 2 tokens. Taste wise, they weren’t spectacular but not too shabby either. On a side note, I finally tried blood sausage and it was good! The beef patty was totally a scam, it turned out to be a potato patty mixed with traces of minced beef.

What is Chuseok without tteok?

This colourful tteok is made from rice and the colours come from natural flavours - raspberry, pumpkin, black glutinous rice, etc. The texture is like mochi, and has red bean filling in it.

There are many stores selling tteok here - not sure whether it's because it's during the Chuseok period or if it's the norm here. Nonetheless, for a tteok lover like me, it's heaven!

There are a couple of pan-fried tteokbokki stalls here but I suppose this is the most famous one as the queue was apparent. They offer the spicy gochujang option and the non-spicy soysauce option. They don't have half half servings so you have to order a serving of each if you want to try both. So we ordered a serving of each which total costs W6,000 from the picture.

Then came a family who came up to us and asked us which is tastier - we said it is tastiest when you eat both together.

This stall is located right beside the chicken stewers stall.

It took us 1h15mins to get our chicken stewers but all was worth it! When it was our turn to order, we finally saw why it was a long wait and why it was such a popular snack to queue for.

The owner first put the skewers in a huge oven to partially cook them, before coating them with sauce then putting them into another smaller oven. He sets the timer, and after a few minutes, takes it out and drizzles sauce according to the orders. He then chucks it back into the oven again. Every time, he only takes about 3-4 people's orders.

We ordered the mozzarella (W4,000) and wine cheese (W3,000). We couldn't decide which was better!

We were in search of Chinese food but it was closed during the Chuseok holiday so we headed over to Tongin market which was nearby. We hopped into this Mandu restaurant and my friends began ordering to share. I loved the red bean bun the best. They also ordered chives pancake, kimchi dumplings, meat dumplings, vegetables bao, etc. Overall, the food was yummy, even though we came in an hour later to eat after the food turned cold. It's also affordable since we ordered dishes to share instead of bowls of noodles.
