Many reviews on the internet that have been praising their Penang style Hokkien Mee and for someone like me who born and grow with this dish, I definitely must come and try.

Unfortunately, I didn’t find it authentic or close enough for the taste with those in Penang. The one main reason would be the chilli paste that has added to the soup. I find it too overpowering the taste of the soup, that cooked with the prawn.

But it is still tasty enough to enjoy. Just lack of the prawn taste I’m expecting from the soup.

This time I ordered Big prawn Mee soup.
The broth was flavourful, mix well with the chilli to balance the sweetness from the broth. Served with noodle and prawns.
Too bad today prawn not too fresh.

The Penang’s version of prawn mee is different from ours as the broth is boiled with a base of prawn shells, heads and pork ribs that resulted in the red hue. When ordered, the stall assistant will blanch the yellow noodles, rice vermicelli and kangkong before adding sliced pork, de-shelled prawns, fish cake, a heap of fried shallots and a spoonful of the red chilli paste. Last but not least, the umami prawn stock is added in. Give it a good mix before eating and this will be your comforting bowl of Penang prawn mee.

A hidden gem I've known for many years. They don't get long queues, but they get by. Their modus operandi is two simple factors sought by many - novelty and quality. What makes this different from local lor mee are the more watery gravy and the liberal garlic. I've never had a bad meal here.

Joining in the crowds to queue for this bowl of prawn noodles in an unassuming hawker stall in the nooks of S11 at amk central. The prawn broth was rich but a tad too sweet for my liking. Thankfully the chilli powder balanced the flavours out for a pretry delightful bowl of prawn noodles. Can't judge for its authenticity because i havent yet been to the motherland. Someday! :)

Penang prawn mee still as good as before.
