This looked really promising with its mega hipster bottle. (My boss thought I was drinking whiskey for breakfast! ๐Ÿคฃ๐Ÿฅƒ๐Ÿ’•)

Unfortunately, was kinda overpriced at $7. Barely filled half my cup, and the coffee wasn't robust enough for my morning kick... Will probably not purchase again. ๐Ÿ˜Maybe I'll try the mint chocolate next time around? ๐Ÿ’๐Ÿป๐Ÿ’š

Have passed by @pennyuniversity countless times & finally found the time to try them out! Overall feel of the place is good, but only had drinks & cake so difficult to say.
Rating: 7.5/10
Will i return/recommend: Yes/Yes
Pros: Wonderful service, friendly & helpful. Dark & cosy interior. Free WIFI. Drinks were good! Matcha latte had strong bitter taste which i liked ๐Ÿ‘Lemon cake tasted good, but texture a bit stale.
Cons: Closes at 7pm, kitchen closes at 4pm (Sun). Drinks were a bit pricier than normal (compared to similar cafes) - for a tiny glass filled with large ice cubes.
Price: S$17.50 - iced matcha latte & peppermint choc, lemon pound cake

Wobbly poached eggs perch atop crisp sourdough toast with Marmite and melted Edam cheese. YES PLEASE. I was slightly unimpressed with the tiniest little heap of leaves that made up the sa(d)lad and I'd have quite liked the little square of cheese to actually cover the entire piece of toast ๐Ÿ˜ฌ but hey, it was still good. The most crucial of the plate was the eggs and they were poached to perfection.

Back at Penny after a long hiatus! Love coming here for their Spiked Muddy - espresso, cold milk and Gula Melaka.

Bonus points: Penny must've also been experiencing post-show withdrawals as the music was an entire Coldplay playlist.

Its always hard to resist Eggs Benny when its on the menu, especially when it has a โœ… by the side! The food took a little long; its expected since the cafe was quite busy. My eggs benny looked a little sad when it was 1st served on the table (especially after a difficult and breathtaking hot yoga). Looked pretty empty ๐Ÿ˜• with only a few strands of salad with vinaigrette by the side
Test 1: Sliced through the 1st poach egg ๐Ÿ™ OVER DONE, not runny enough ๐Ÿ˜ฉ
Luckily, the brioche toast was a saver for my breakie: crispy at the side, soft in the middle. The whole combination (hollandaise sauce, smoked salmon, egg & toast) was pretty pleasant in the mouth.
Test 2: Sliced through the 2nd poach egg ๐Ÿ˜ƒ this is RIGHT! ๐Ÿ˜‹
๐Ÿค”Consistency and Plating needs improvement

๐Ÿ’ธ: $15, pretty standard cafรฉ prices
Verdict: ๐Ÿ™‚ i was not too impressed with my entire branch experience. The serving was on the small side and looked little unsatisfying which made me feel a little sad even before i ate it. Im glad my eggs benny tasted pretty good. The fact that it has pretty good kopi, there's a chance that i'll be back to give it another try

Sprinkled with some Parmesan cheese & pepper, the truffle fries was pretty meh. The truffle taste wasn't fragrant in your face and the fries were HOT (cause only available after 1200) but not crispy enough; needs more time in the fryer yo~ Heyyy, crispy is a prerequisite to yummy fries right???

๐Ÿ’ธ: $8
Verdict: ๐Ÿ˜ im not ordering this on my next visit (if i appear).

Not very accessible ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜… Finally tried their highly raved Double Poached Eggs on Marmite Cheese Toasts! ๐Ÿ˜‹๐ŸดOnly $7! No gst & service charge! #lunch #burpple

I love the combination marmite and cheese, and with eggs done in my favourite way, I thought this would be a winning dish. But it wasn't ๐Ÿ˜ข. The poached eggs were overcooked and yolks have solidified. The sourdough bread had crusts that were so hard till I gave up chewing it on the second slice. My jaws were so tired and I took double my usual time to eat. What was the hype about this cafe again? And the queue was so long!

Chill ambiance, pretty nice food and affordable. A little more attention on the service from the staff would be a plus point but overall, it was a satisfactory visit.

A special mango mayo "buttered" on perfectly toasted ciabatta with an entire grilled chicken thigh sandwiched between. This was a STEAL at $9.50 when benchmarked to other sandwich experiences I've had at cafes. The extra oomph was definitely the special spread with a hint of spiciness from soft cooked bell peppers and chilli!
After ending off with a well roasted cuppa milk espresso, the probing question on my head -" How could I have delayed this visit to penny university till today after shifting to the east for about 2 years now"
But to console myself "better late than never" and I can't wait to be back !!!

Note the level in their drink - this was before I even drank this. I would have liked if they used a cup befitting of its drink level lah. But anyway? Their muddy espresso was not bad and worth a try.

Firm to the bite, the Spanish omelette at halal cafe Penny University, was filled to saturation point with neat cubes of chicken chilli sausage, potatoes, capsicum, chives and caramelised onions. I enjoyed it most when I slathered on the accompanying garlic aioli as it added a welcome creaminess and subtle zing.

Cafe is understaffed with orders taking a long time to arrive. The poached eggs on my English breakfast is overcooked and not runny. Decent variety on the English breakfast though. Too much vinegar was added during the poaching of the eggs resulting in a lingering sourish taste. The eggs benedict was still runny but still had a sourish taste. Coffee is decent.

Surprisingly good cakes in a rather packed cafe! Always have problems with cakes being too sweet but the ones at Penny U are super fluffy and great for snack time hehe
