When Renae, a foodie friend of mine, asked me if I would like to try some good and authentic "Biang Biang Noodles", I said yes at once. It did take a while though for us to find a date that worked but our trip to People’s Park Complex was a fruitful one on all accounts.
The eatery is located outside the building and faces the hawker centre. It has a black signboard with the Chinese words “西安印象” and a perpetual queue of Chinese nationals either waiting to place, collect or wolf down their orders at the few tables situated in front. The air crackles with energy as you approach the food shops lined along that stretch and the authenticity is undeniably loud and proud.
Renae did the ordering and that is how I had a serving of Biang Biang Noodles as well as two Pork Buns (she must think I have a bottomless pit 😂), while she had a plate of 西安传统拌面 (Xi’an traditional mixed noodles) and the two of us shared a plate of braised pig’s ears.
I really enjoyed the broad and extremely long handmade noodles from this stall. Smooth, soft but enjoyably chewy, there was probably a total of two ribbons of noodle per plate - just like the last Biang Biang Noodles I ate in, of all places, New York. This stall’s version differs from that as it is a touch sweeter and has a refreshing burst from smashed fresh tomatoes, raw chopped garlic and plenty of beansprouts. I must say, I‘d spam it with chilli the next time for a bigger kick.

With the footsteps of Mid-Autumn Festival drawing nearer, Chinatown is bustling with energy from the many activities organised! 🌟🌟🌟 As a foodie, the event closest to my heart is the Heritage + FOOD Trail, happening today as well as 7 & 8 Sep, 3-5pm. 🤤
Information booth can be found in front of the stage at Kreta Ayer Square where you can purchase your tickets at $10 ✌🏻 (guided tour inclusive of food tasting), or pre-purchase online from to avoid disappointment! 😊
Chinatown houses many good eats that have withstood the test of time. 🕰 There are 2 locations - People’s Park Food Centre & Chinatown Complex. 💕 Here are some of the local delights that I tried on the trail at the former:
🔹️Tian Jin Fong Kee (天津冯记): thin skin encasing juicy meat fillings, these dumplings 🥟🥟🥟 only made upon order are gems! FAVOURITE! ❤
🔹️Dong Dong Hainanese Chicken Rice (东东鸡饭): been serving tender chicken meats 🐓 with fragrant oil rice 🍚 for 35 years! 👍🏻
🔹️Koo Kee Yong Tow Foo Mee (高记酿豆腐): love their springy thin noodles 🍜 & YTF stuffed with their housemade fish paste! 🤤
🔹️Kim Hua Guan (金华源肉干): using fresh meat grilled over charcoal 🔥, this bak kwa retains the traditional taste.
Many more good food awaits you so hesitate no more - sign up now! 👌🏻 It will definitely be an insightful & drool-worthy experience!

This stall is located near the upper cross street entrance.

Theres 2 roasted meat stall side by side here. Decided to eat the stall on the right as there's a longer queue.

Overall, the dish was so so.

Char siew: sweet but so so only. Nothing fantastic

Roasted pork: so so, quite dry. Nothing fantastic

Roasted duck: lots of bones but taste damn good. Will definitely return next time just for the duck meat.

Interestingly, this plate of shredded chicken hor fun ($3.5) has a very distinct star anise flavour which is embedded in their gravy, giving it a good mix of savoury and spiciness. The slippery soft noodles, extremely tender chicken slices, and huge juicy are all drenched in the glistening gravy - needless to say, each bite was simply divine!

As much as it is very tasty and makes you forget about the rest of the world during the slurping session, it is highly recommended to slurp everything up CAREFULLY to prevent "messy splatters" 😂

Served piping hot in claypot filled with dark savoury sauce with strong ginger fragrance, and topped with a fistful of spring onion, the frog meat is extremely tender and sweet! We mixed the dark gravy sauce with the porridge, giving it a nice velvety texture 😋

Also, as it is situated in a hawker centre, you could also order other varieties of food such as Mala or beer to complement the frog porridge 😉 Will definitely be back for this!

Fluffy as clouds .... ...

I used to have to get to the east to get my Putu Piring fix but thanks to Azizd’s Putu Piring ,
I can now get my Putu Piring with ease.

I love that this Putu piring is so fluffy and the the ratio of flour to gula Melaka is just right .

I actually prefer this to the one I had in the east .

I am not surprised if Long queues start forming .

For those of you who are as easily lost like me , this Hawker is the one next to OG people’s park.
( yes - the one with lots and lots of china food stalls )
