Another popular fish soup stall in Amoy! The soup is slightly more salty than hankee’s. Also, their fish slices fall slightly short, as hankee’s fish slices have a nice natural sweetness. The ginger here is really nice tho, they mix it with a fermented bean sauce.

This was a good, but it is slightly pricier at $7.50 and personally, I felt that it wasn’t as impressive as hankee’s. I do have a lighter palate tho, so if you prefer heavier / stronger tastes you might like piaoji better :)

Fish soup itself was flavourful despite being so clear, and the fish was not bad as well. Theres a slight bite and the brine comes thru strongly. Chili sauce had a real kick as well as a complexity from the preserved vegetables, which were present in the soup as well to provide it a subtle fragrance.

Come super early or late to avoid the queue. Only problem is the price I guess

First of all, there will always be die-hard fans of either Piao Ji or Han Kee in this food centre. Both stalls serve equally fresh fish and boast equally long queues — so which is better? That remains debatable. At Piao Ji, come for the Sliced Fish Soup (starts at $7), where silky-smooth premium pomfret slices swim in a savoury broth boosted with fried shallot and pork lard. The soup is arguably more robust and perhaps better suited to pairing with noodles than its competitor. Non-CBD people, please come at off-peak hours if you don't want to wait for 30 minutes!

10 bucks, slice fish with porridge. quite a queue but it's worthy. Juicy fish and tasty soup base.

$12 for this bowl + $0.50 for the rice. Definitely not cheap. The fish quite thick slices and shiok. Prawns were big and juicy. But I did not particularly enjoy the soup cos it was more of prawn than fish... my companions enjoyed it tho! Might be a personal preference. Would prefer if there’s more soup or refills too!

Haven’t been back to Piao Ji in quite a while and was kinda disappointed that the portion seemed to have shrunk? Broth’s still as flavourful and fish slices were still super fresh, but serving for both could have been more generous.
