This mammoth sized plate of pork chop ($22 nett) is one of Picnic Café's specials, and boy is it special.

One rib and its mass of accompanying pork is hewn out of an entire slab of prime rib, cooked to perfection and loaded onto the plate. The pork chop is juicy, tender and so bloody delicious thanks to the bone imparting its flavorful wonders into the meat during the cooking process.

Any traces of any off-putting porky stench have been erased from existence with some sterling searing skills, and the whole rib is bathed in a moreish reduction that I mopped up with relish.

The chop is already good enough on its own, but good just don't cut it. A couple of pieces of super crispy pork rind, T H I C C French fries, a salad to make you feel less gluttonous guilt, and Picnic Café's stellar chili jam mix, and you've got a rib made just for your pleasure.

When I saw on Picnic Café's Facebook page that they had risotto on their menu, I was there before anyone could say 'mamma mia'. Picnic Cafe's mushroom risotto is offered with a choice of chicken confit, pan seared salmon or pork ribs for just $15.90 nett.

I picked the porcine variant, and it did not disappoint at all. The al dente, just right grains of arborio rice were swaddled in the thick, tasty mushroom sauce alongside a few thick, earthy slices of mushroom.

The main attraction, the pork ribs, were comfortably settled atop the mountain of carbs, and they were nearly perfect. Meaty, sensationally seasoned and juicy, the only thing that held them back from a perfect porcine ten was that they weren't as tender as they could be. However, that didn't detract from that fact that the pork rib risotto was utterly delicious and satisfying.

Picnic Café takes customer feedback very seriously, as evidenced by their majestic mushroom soup. The last time I had that, it wasn't served quite as hot as I would've liked, and I passed that piece of feedback along to Chris, the chef & proprietor. This time, when I ordered it along with this risotto, it came screaming hot. It's great to see that the owner is taking even the minor feedback seriously and improving upon them.

If there was one eatery I wanted to succeed above all others, it would definitely be Picnic Café.

Wanted to have something light; ended up having this which was actually sized pretty much to a personal pizza. The flatbread was actually pretty fluffy yet a little doughy — quite like a good naan. The toppings does make it a little pizza-like; oozy, stringy and melty cheese with a hint of herbs — quite a good item to share between two.

The pork rib is my favourite, delicious and tender. Perfectly done Risotto is rich without being heavy. Yummy! 👍
