#BurppleBeyond 1-1 Main dish

Aglio & Olio Prawn $17
Cipolla & Pancetta Pizza $19

Great place to chill after work here, staffs were efficient and friendly. Portion was big for both the pizza and pasta. The Aglio & Olio with Prawn was slightly oily but was well seasoned and penne was cooked to the right texture. Cipolla & Pancetta Pizza was simple yet hearty, crust was thin but filled with ingredients. Onions in the pizza really brought out the flavour of the mozzarella and bacon. Items on menu offered for 1-1 was extensive, and price after discount was really reasonable, forseeing a second visit soon!

Located along the stretch of restaurants & bars in Lorong Mambong, Più 39 is the latest addition to that stretch serving up hearty classic Italian items, with a few local twists.

If you're a fan of hand-stretched thin crust pizza, this is for you! Their Diavola ($19) is a simple one, that comes with a tomato base, mozzarella cheese & salami.

These 3 ingredients combined to create a savoury bomb of a pizza, and if you threw some Tabasco on, you'd got yourself a perfect slice!

Bocconcino di Bufula & Prosciutto di Parma ($16)
Bufula cheese served w/ rocket leaves and Parma ham

Great start to the meal!

There’s no lack of pizza places in Holland Village so we were interested to see how this would fare. We ordered the Parma pizza, Arrabiata pasta & truffle fries. The pasta was average with the penne being a tad overcooked. We were rather disappointed in the truffle fries as there hardly any truffle taste! Perhaps the only dish we rather enjoyed was the Parma pizza.

While Più 39 is a pizza bar in name, they don’t look pasta-sorry, look past the pasta. The All’Amatriciana ($17++) is an all star despite its humble composition. Al dente spaghetti is tossed in a tantalising tomato ragu that’s been fortified with a healthy amount of caramelised onions. The pasta is store bought, but it’s still decent quality pasta with a decent bite to it.

A lot of tomato based sauces tend to be too sharp or a touch too sweet, but Più’s rendition was perfectly balanced, as all things should be. Mildly tangy, subtly sweet and salty enough to hit the umami spot, it was a piquant plate of pasta. Of course, bacon makes everything better, but the quantity was lacking in the dish. Definitely needs more bacon, but other than that, this is *kisses fingers* belissimo.

Mucho grazie to @piu39_italianpizzabar for hosting us, and to @burpple for organising!

Calzone is technically a pizza, change my mind. Look, it’s just a pizza with extra dough at the top to form a covered pie, alright. I’m right you’re wrong, you’re welcome for my TED Talk.

Technical definitions aside, there’s no argument that @piu39_italianpizzabar Calzone Stupefacente ($25++) is guaranteed to win everyone’s hearts (and stomachs). Sure, it’s far from being the most dainty dish that’s insta-ready, but it’s ready to get into my (admittedly oversized) belly. Stupefacente is Italian for, you guessed it, stupefying.

Look, here’s the thing, I’m gonna be honest with you. I’m kinda...unimpressed. Yes, Chef Dario did put less Gorgonzola cheese into the calzone as he wasn’t sure we’d like the strong taste of it, and that’s probably why. The normal calzone is probably a lot punchier on the palate, so I gotta have a round two soon just to be sure.

Other than that, it’s really just a salami pizza that’s been topped with a little extra dough to form the pocket in which the salami, Gorgonzola & mozzarella cheese blend, as well as the tasty tomato sauce reside in peacefully. But the calzone base is exactly the same stellar dough that you find on their pleasant pizzas. That makes all the difference for the calzone, and elevated the pie into a level above.

Oh and if you’re intending to get some photos in, do it quick. The freshly baked dough deflates faster than my will to live.

Much obliged to @piu39_italianpizzabar for the fabulous food, and @burpple for the invite!
