Although this isn’t even Tex-Mex, it definitely does the job. Tortilla chips are fully loaded with rich braised beef, guacamole, cheddar cheese, jalapenos, stewed black beans and salsa, making for a crunchy, moreish accompaniment to a tall, cool pint of Archipelago.

A change in concept has done wonders for the Platypus Kitchen’s East Coast branch. Now with a focus on Mexican cuisine and cocktails, both service and food seemed to have improved. The fish tacos sees crisp nuggets of piping hot fish buried under lashings of hot sauce and crema, sprinkled over with corn, black beans and salsa. Most scrumptious. What’s more, they have an all-you-can-eat taco buffet for about $20 on Sundays. Can’t wait!

Deceivingly visually appealing, but what a letdown. Dry and hard rice that tastes like it's been in the fridge for too long, slightly tough beef, and dried truffle slices devoid of any fragrance or flavour except for a barely there nuttiness. I really needed the honey truffle soy to moisten things up a little, but there was barely any of it, and what I was left with was the bad synthetic aftertaste of really cheap tasting truffle oil.

Service was slightly bumbling, and the food was on par with previous experiences at other branches, which is to say, not good. The only redeeming factor is pints of Archipelago go for $9++ during happy hour.

The execution is comparable to most Chinese Western hawker stalls, and the portion reasonably generous. I liked the crisp and thin batter most, but otherwise this is an average fish & chips.

Light fruity & refreshing- the perfect companion for a Saturday evening!
