Reviews

From the Burpple community

Each set comes with a choice of Thai milk tea or Thai iced lemon tea.

@popejaithai, a Thai casual dining restaurant and a social enterprise that supports 8 different beneficiaries through training and employment. They are also helping private hire drivers during this covid-19 period.

Read generally positive reviews about them, and with quality food at nett pricing, there鈥檚 nothing more that I would ask for. Their Tom Yum dishes were filled with herbs; lemongrass and kaffir lime leaves were distinctly found even in the Tom Yum seafood fried rice. The Tom Yum soup was slightly on the spicy side, but not to the extent of leaving your stomach burning. As one of the popular dishes from Pope Jai Thai, the garlic honey chicken was pretty interesting. It somehow tasted like bak kwa, probably due to the honey, but at the same time exuded a mildly fragrant garlic aroma. Even as the food had turned slightly cold due to delivery, the fried chicken was still flavorful and retained its juiciness. It was just a pity that it was cold, same for the Tom Yum soup. One appetizer to try is the golden square tofu, that had the sweet Thai chili and chopped peanuts as condiments and toppings.

I liked that their Thai milk tea wasn鈥檛 overly sweet as they had told me it was of a fixed sugar level. However, what was intriguing was even the Thai iced lemon tea without the condensed milk, tasted just like the Thai milk tea!

Pope Jai Thai's menu is pretty extensive. They have set meal deals (main + drink), a la carte mains, zhi-char style dishes for sharing, appetizers, & dessert too of course.

I was happy with the food I ordered:
路 Phad Thai Set (Seafood) with Thai Lemon Tea (Cold) - $8.80 nett
路 Stir Fried Tanghoon Set (Vegetables) with Thai Milk Tea (Cold) - $8.80 nett
路 Homemade Thai Prawn Cake (3 pieces) - $8.80 nett
路 Clear Tom Yum Glass Noodle Soup (Seafood) - $8.80 nett
路 Garlic Honey Chicken (Large) - $15 nett
路 Garlic Baby Kailan (Medium) - $11 nett

I usually don't like paying for delivery, but their $5 delivery fee (min. $20 spend) is reasonable. Delivery service was also satisfactory; my food arrived on time (within the 30 minute window - in fact, at 12:22PM when I requested for 12:15PM delivery!).

My soup was shrink-wrapped at the top to avoid spillage, & the dispatch rider had stored my food in an insulated bag (warm & cold in 2 separated bags) during the ride 馃憤馃徎

Would order from them again & when circuit breaker period is over, I'd like to pay their dining establishment a visit too - they're conveniently located at *SCAPE.

I learnt about Pope Jai Thai from a friend - admittedly drawn in by the perk of a free mango sticky rice. She then shared with me about their cause & what they stand for.

Pope Jai Thai is a F&B-focused social enterprise that employs a range of disadvantaged groups; underprivileged & marginalized individuals make up 90% of their workforce. During the COVID-19 outbreak, they've also created new job opportunities (since they offer islandwide delivery) for taxi drivers & dispatch riders who have been affected by this pandemic.

I'm not going to put myself on moral high ground here. But I'm happy to support a meaningful social cause like this. & eat delicious food while I'm at it.

Delivery is an affordable $5, & if you quote BUIBUISUPPORTPJ when ordering (min. spend $30), you get a FREE mango sticky rice on your first order! Valid until 4 May 2020.

These prawn cakes win my vote for the largest prawn cakes in Singapore. The patties were also very soft - which was not a bad thing because it meant these were giant coins of fresh prawn meat, unadulterated by any flour or starch.

Price: $8

Knew we had to order this when I saw the chef's hat logo. Was impressed by the portion! We got the smaller portion (medium) and it came without distractions like a bed of shredded cabbage or lettuce leaves. Just pure sticky, galicky chicken goodness.

Price: $12 (medium), $15 (large)

Quite a satisfying rendition of my favourite Thai dish. The rice noodles were silky and coated in just the right amount of sauce. The beef slices were tender. Would order this again.

Service was friendly. The staff were attentive and very patient when explaining their menu and promotions. They provided extra plates for us to share the food, without us even asking! 2 thumbs up for service 馃槉
