Poppies Fish & Chips Soho

Can't visit London without having fish and chips, and when I asked around for the best fish and chips, this is what you all recommended. And it was so good. This turned out to be the best thing I ate during my whole trip.

I was first surprised by the sheer size of this, it's easily twice the length of the fish and chips we usually see in Singapore. As I cut through the batter, I noticed how crisp (but not hard) it was. There was airiness to that crisp light batter. The fish was fresh, though could be sweeter. Accompanying fries was run of the mill, and with a fish that big, you probably won't have space for much of those fries anyway. Came with tomato sauce, tartar sauce and malt vinegar.

It looks like a fast food joint, and definitely felt casual. But it's simple comfort food done well!

Poppies came up highly recommended in my search, retro-styled to recreate East End London in the 1950s.

All the seafood used at Poppie’s is sustainable. The portion was huge, cod fresh, but wished the batter was more crisp.

It wasn’t mind-blowing or anything but it was good and surprisingly light on the palate. 👴🏻 didn’t like it as much since he was used to having heavier tasting fish and chips. The fish that they had at Poppie’s was very fresh and the batter used was light and crispy. It was served with thick fries and ketchup + tartar sauce. We ordered an extra side of homemade mushy peas and it was slightly salted and tasty. Probably not the kind of fish and chips we would constantly crave for but a definite must-try since we were in London! - 👵🏻 #burpple

But this version Poppies is too good to miss.
Mine was the haddock, which was nice and meaty. Don’t miss mashed peas, the fish roe and fish cake too. Shioks!!
PS: used to head to the spitalfields outlet but discovered one in Soho, which makes it so much easier for me!
