Been a while since I’ve had CSHH’s coffee, and now you can get a cuppa their joe over at the hip new Funan mall. Prices are a notch above their usual, and I think it’s the same blend (tastes like their Nuts and Bolts), but that’s what a mall does to prices I guess.

Almond butter and blueberry jam served on sunflower and pumpkin seeded sourdough toast ($7.50 before gst). They are generous with the spread. Tasted like natural almond butter and the jam is not sweet (not like from a jar in NTUC)

Beetroot hummus and honey on homemade whole grain toast ($6 before gst). Honey goes well with the hummus as it brings some sweetness to the toast.

The toasts are HUGE and thick, nicely toasted with great crunch on the sides. 1 slice is good for tea break or breakfast, 2 is abit too filling for lunch - especially with coffee

I prefer the almond butter toast to the hummus toast. Will go back to give the other toasts a try as it goes well with coffee. Coffee are standard PPP coffee - full bodied and not acidic which I like.

Sought refuge during the crazy opening and this was definitely a good place for a quick break (good cuppa + there’s wireless charging for devices ha)!

Wasn’t sure what to expect for this Heibihiam cream cheese toast - but I liked the combination of savoury heibihiam (it wasn’t spicy though) and mildly sweet cream cheese on a crisp sourdough toast! May not look like much but I surprisingly managed to survive on this and a happy cuppa till dinner time😂

Will definitely be back - the bakes and kuehs look good too!

As a specialty coffee lover, we regularly visit ‘Papa Palheta’/ Chye Seng Huat hardware in Jalan Besar. When we heard that their sibling Brand “PPP coffee” open in Funan, we were very curious to check out and went there twice. First time there was no seat (understand that the place might be popular for regulars).

This second time we visited at 6 pm. We ordered 2 piccolo $4.50 along with Ang Ku Kueh $2.50 to enjoy with. We don’t care much about the latte art on our little caffeine milk shot but feel let down by the body of piccolo. It was full of foam with little ristretto (extraction of espresso). The piccolo body is not mighty shall we say. Another let down is a hygiene issue when the person who serves us sneezed twice while making the last shot but continue finishing her shift anyway. 😪😱

P.S. visit them between 3-5 pm to enjoy 1-for-1 deal they run on Instagram.

A home-grown specialty coffee roaster and purveyor, Papa Palheta has since rebranded themsves as PPP Coffee. Living up to its name, the White Cold Brew was lusciously creamy, lightly sweetened and filled with rich flavour notes of chocolate and hazelnut. No other words to describe other than pure awesomeness in a bottle. 😍

Yet another day, and another day indeed at the newly-revamped Funan. Being one of the more popular options for specialty coffee in the mall, PPP Coffee no doubt holds strong to the reputation set by their parent, Papa Pahelta which had already been churning out quality cuppas ever since third wave coffee movement had hit our shores during its peak.

Also serving up small bites, the Cream Cheese Heibi Hiam is probably the simplest form of local fusion; just a sourdough that is crisp on the edges, yet fluffy and light in the middle that is spread with cream cheese and coming with a good portion of spicy dried shrimp, this was no doubt satisfying with its umami flavour profile and spicy kick that is ultimately comforting. Certainly works out for a more substantial tea time treat.
