Set lunch comes with drinks and soup of the day. I ordered pumpkin soup and orange juice. Couldn't really taste the truffle sauce. Lol but the chicken is good.

#FestivalForGood is happening TODAY and it's Singapore's first ever festival put together to celebrate and raise awareness of social enterprises! 🎈Head down to Timbre+ to join in the fun with the exciting line up, all while doing good! Apart from dropping by stalls at the pop-up market, participate in unique fringe events like a crash course on how to juggle to a tote bag design workshop. Most importantly, get a close look and gain a first hand experience of what some of our inspiring local social enterprises do, such as through the Visual Impairment Exercise by Society Staples and the Disability Wellness Experience by AbleThrive.

Together with this joyous occasion, Festival for Good has partnered with 8 F&B partners to launch #DineForGood for the whole month of August! Professor Brawn Cafe is one of these 8. Professor Brawn is not the owner, but the face of the cafe representing kindness, strength and intelligence. Both him and The Animal Project (TAP), are inspired and created by their founder, Roland's, autistic son. Roland left the corporate world with the determination to start this social enterprise and has not looked back since. He doesn't just push for serving affordable quality western grub, his priority is to promote inclusivity and acceptance of the special needs community, by providing employment & social integration opportunities. Holistic considerations and adjustments have been made to the jobs to better support his employees in performing and showcasing their abilities.

Prepared to be spoilt for choice here as you flip through the menu. Two must gets for me are the substantial crunchy calamari ($7.90) and the super tender Savoury BBQ Pork Ribs ($18.90). End off your meal later with a selection of home made cakes like this Banana Walnut Cake.

Your support to these social enterprises goes a long way and means a lot to them. Be #partofthegood simply by dining in!🍴 In the month of August at Professor Brawn, receive a complimentary serving of ice cream with purchase of any mains! Download the dining coupons, tickets to workshops and find more details of the festival at www.festivalforgood.sg!

A huge thank you to Roland from @professorbrawn, Saddiqi from raiSE for the warm hospitality and @burpple for the kind invite! 🙆🏻

A strenuous yet fun journey for the owner of Professor Brawn, Mr Roland Tay, the cafe was started not just as a social enterprise but something really close to his heart. The worried father left the corporate world in late 2008 with no regrets, to begin possible business ventures that would allow him to serve the special-needs community and especially to help his autistic son’s integration into society. Thus, with the move came the start of Professor Brawn Cafe.

With a nice selection of classic western fare, I found the grub to be both comforting and hearty. I enjoyed the Grilled Chicken with Truffle Sauce ($12.90), served with a generous portion of potato wedges and salad tossed with their homemade dressing. The wedges were crisp and well seasoned, perfect to wipe up the sauce. Another dish worth your buck is the Gourmet Sausage with Rosti ($14.90) complemented with their special homemade tangy-sweet cream dip.

Affordable and good, the aim is to provide employment opportunities and empower people of different abilities as well as socio-economic backgrounds, yet by no means comprising the quality of service and food. As one of the eight local social enterprises participating in the #DineForGood initiative, be inspired by their mascot - a scholarly superhero equip with kindness, strength and intelligence. Join us in the #FestivalForGood organised by the Singapore Centre for Social Enterprise (raiSE) and be #Partofthegood to support F&B social enterprises in Singapore!

Many thanks to Mr Roland Tay for taking the time to host us and to share your story with us, as well as Burpple for the invitation!

Originally from the corporate world, Professor Brawn Cafe's founder Roland Tay left his job after 30 years to set up this social enterprise, which helps to provide employment opportunities to people with special needs. Professor Brawn is a superhero drawn by his son, Jun Yi, who has autism. By maintaining a routine from the preparation of food to cooking, his team of staff (some of them suffer from autism) now dishes out delectable Western fare. Come with your family for the Weekend Special Lunch Set (from $18.90), where your choice of main (either chicken confit or striploin steak) is accompanied with a complimentary soup and drink. If available, opt for the tender Pork Ribs ($18.90) that Burpple Tastemaker Russell Leong loves. For a lighter bite, nibble on their finger-licking good Crunchy Calamari ($7.90), served with a tasty salsa dip.
Avg price: $20 per person
