This bowl came piping hot as the mentaiko was freshly torched. Underneath that generous thick blanket of mentaiko hid chunky cubes of salmon sashimi. Tiny cubes of sweet tamago scattered within cuts through the heavy savory feel. So good that I wiped the bowl clean.

P.S. The regular bowl looks deceivingly small - I was legit full.

Although we visited Rakki Bowl to try their Truffle Beef don, it wasn’t available. You would probably be able to tell when it’s available or not the instant you walk into the restaurant though, as there’s a distinctive presence or absence of an overwhelming truffle aroma once you set foot into the Rakki Bowl.

The chicken teriyaki don (Regular, $11.90) is the only other item on the menu with cooked meat - as the rest of the offerings are sashimi salmon bowls and Bara Chirashi. It’s also the cheapest option on the menu, so I recommend going with the large portion if you’re using Beyond with dining partners ordering other bowls.

The bowl comprises Japanese white sticky rice, teriyaki chicken, an onsen egg, cucumber and pickled radish slices, and is topped with shredded nori. A very simple dish, but a very very delicious one. The teriyaki chicken here is in a class of its own. The meat is extremely tender, and full of that sweet-savoury-smoky flavour of teriyaki, but what set it apart was the slightly crispy skin. Nowadays I usually resist the urge to eat chicken skin, but I couldn’t help myself for this one because it was so perfectly juicy yet crispy!

Mix the onsen egg into the rice for maximum enjoyment, as it helps the separate components of the bowl come together better. My friend commented that the rice was too sticky, but I didn’t find that a problem. Polished off the bowl completely, and kept regretting not ordering the large portion. While it’s very worth it with Burpple Beyond, the price is a little steep without the offer - especially for the sashimi dons. Thankfully Rakki Bowl is on Burpple Beyond and Entertainer, so I can make a few trips back, but I’d opt for Hokkaido-ya for a more affordable sashimi don without the 1-for-1.

Glad we tried their mentaiko salmon don! It was a bowl of salmon cubes coated with a generous layer of beautifully flamed homemade mentaiko sauce.
Chirashi don was alright, pretty average 👌🏼 Their wasabi is the real deal though, mind you :o
Both were regular size ~
