First time trying out this "famous " Hokkien Mee, I ordered portion for 2 pax (RM16). The prawns and meats not fresh at all and possible because overcook of the dark soy sauce, the noodle tasted bitter. Although they say they fried the hokkien mee with charcoal but I cant taste any "wok hei". The noodle also overcooked and too soft.

3/10

Only wish I had taken a better photo. Well not sure if a good photo will do it justice.#burpple #foodporn #foodphotography

Our favourite eat-out place for dinner/ supper in Kepong. There are at least 20 tables outside the shop itself and its always packed!

Happiness is getting to catch up with friends outside of work on a super-short business trip! The famous charcoal-fried Hokkien Mee in Petaling Jaya, and equally decent Penang Lor Bak (not pictured) - with a crispy and almost melts-in-your-mouth texture. Satays were a little less stellar, but overall experience was great! Thanks @dtanrx and Bronson! 😘

Unlike the creamier version Singapore uses, this is darker and uses thicker noodles and hence offers a slightly charcoal burnt taste. Request for additional prawns, chilli, and lard, as these make a well-deserved signature stir-fried dish into an astonishing one.

Their popiah, rojak, and lobak were fantastic too. For the popiah, it was crispy and also, while it had the soft skin, it was not brittle so it held itself well together, and goes well with the chilli on top.

The rojak and lor bak were amazing with the dipping sauces given as well in terms of crispiness and the juicy enough so as to not be hard to bite .
Ordered the Lor Mee which was quite nice as well though admittedly, adding vinegar is an acquired taste in my honest opinion.

Overall, the dishes were fantastic and would recommend people who would love to experience Malaysian Chinese food to come to this coffeeshop should they visit Kuala Lumpur.

What is also interesting is that this was the first place I saw #TakNakStraw… and that is what has been sparking my obsession with this over the trip, corrected to say ‘Tak Mau Straw’ by some and then ‘Tak Nak Straw’ again. But yes, this is where I first saw the sign, not sure if @mytaknak is behind this as well.

This post is the ninth of a mini-series of my recent trip to Kuala Lumpur during the New Year’s celebrations, and also some observations and comparisons from my previous trip. [Episode 9]
