I can’t say last night’s meal at Restoran Chua Kee in Gelang Patah, wow-ed me the way it has on previous occasions but in all honesty, and sorry if it sounds harsh but it still beat many of the generic “zi char” stalls scattered around Singapore.
The “wok hei” in the White Seafood Beehoon was less “parfum” and more “eau de toilette” but I was placated by the fluffily-fried noodle strands and generosity of prawns and egg.
My favourites were the XXL Black Pepper Crab in a strangely addictive tar-like sauce and the Clam Soup which clearly, nurtured a meaningful relationship with a bunch of aromatics.
The bill of the above spread for 7 of us, including the Clam Soup and Cereal Prawns that arrived a few minutes after I took the photo, came to slightly under SGD$20 each.

We only paid RM110 (~SGD$35) for these 2 medium-sized crabs which were sweet and moist. Covered in tar-like thick and heavy black pepper sauce, the cracks on the crab's shell allowed the sauce to seep in. Unlike our familiar Singapore style, this black pepper sauce is less pungent but more savory and aromatic. I love both but I could eat more of this! 😍

Your eyes are not playing tricks on you. For just about SGD $10, you get 5 fresh and succulent crayfishes of decent size at Chua Kee! 😉 The chilli gravy is the winner. It was "gao" (thick in Hokkien) and not ketchup-ish at all. We were so in love with the sauce that we literally soaked the fried mantou in it. And we licked clean of the sauce that remained on our fingers. 😄

The soup / broth is light yet tasty, nicely salty savoury sweet sour, with a slight tangy taste.

Addictive enough to make you want to drink more, yet it's not overwhelming.

Tasty and hearty broth of fish, wolfberries, and ginger. Generous portion of fresh, small but meaty clams.

Tastes just like Singapore's chilli crab with a thick, goopy-with-egg gravy that's medium level spicy, strong in tomato and with just a touch of citrus zing.
This is good but for something more unique here, I'd recommend going for their Signature Black Pepper (I've Burppled about it before) which is "wetter" than our local version.
