Ri Ri Cha

The waffle has a nice crisp exterior with stretchy and chewy Chinese rice cake (年糕) inside. The nian gao was not too sweet with hints of brown sugar. I enjoyed the contrasting texture of the chewy nian gao and crispy waffle. The tie guan yin ice cream was creamy and light in flavour with a very mild taste of tea which I wish the fragrance of tea could be stronger. They do not allow flavour tasting so it's really a hit/miss.

Other flavours available are cookies and cream, sea salt gula melaka, osmanthus oolong, dark chocolate, yuzu shiso, Hoegaarden Rosee beer, chrysanthemum goji berries, matcha butterfly pea soy, roselle smoked plum, pi pa gao mint, white peach oolong, strawberry chia seeds, Jasmine green milk tea and earl grey milk tea.

A popular dessert cafe specialising in tea flavoured ice cream, Ri Ri Cha also offers nian gao waffles which we wanted to try out as well!

We got the nian gao waffles with 3 scoops (~$20) and we liked the waffles! With a crispy exterior and strong butter taste, the chewy texture from the nian gao within was inviting as well.

We had Earl Grey Milk Tea, Blue Pea Matcha and White Peach Oolong ice cream flavours. All flavours were alright, but we liked how all of them were not too sweet.

Not too bad, a dessert place to consider.

First time trying NIAN GAO WAFFLES & I love it! 🧇❤️ Crispy along the edges with chewy glutinous rice cake embedded within the light batter, the waffle is best enjoyed warm for that SUPPPPPPPER STRETCHY pull! Would recommend finding a kaki to share, cos it's actually quite huge. If that's not enough for you, you can request an extra layer of nian gao and ask them to bake longer for extra crispiness! 
 
Went for the "Duck Shit" Oolong 鴨屎香 ice cream, which (thankfully) tastes and smells nothing like its namesake. 😆🦆 Rather, it carried a prominent roasted tea taste with floral notes! Also enjoyed the contrasting sourness of the Roselle Smoked Plum flavour, which paired well with the sweetness of the nian gao and chocolate sauce.

🍴Finally tried the popular tea-based gelato spot. The nian gao waffles certainly lived up to the hype with its enjoyable textural contrast of soft, chewy rice cake with crispy, airy waffle, and creamy ice cream.

Was spoilt for choice among the tea flavours and settled on matcha butterfly pea soy and tie guan yin. The former was a feast for the eyes and reminded us of earth 🌍. Comprised of two distinct flavours of matcha on one side and soy on the other. As a matcha fan, did appreciate the distinct tea aroma in the green section but found the creamy soy element in the blue section to overpower it. Enjoyed the aromatic and roasted notes of tie guan yin. Fortune cookie element was cute but it had unfortunately lost its crisp.

Will be back to try their other unique tea flavours like yuzu shiso and duck shit oolong.
