Best cake in Singapore? Was treated to this kaya swiss roll with a rich slab of buttery kaya, and heard that the kaya is their signature flavour - easily agreed upon as the kaya is strong but doesn't overwhelm with sweetness, enveloped by a moist and fluffy pillow of swiss roll.

Also, their cakes usually sells out fast. For $8, this roll is not the cheapest, but it promises a tea time treat more decadent than our usual cream swiss rolls

Nestled right in the heart of Arab Street (and a newly opened outlet in Jewel), this popular bakery withstood the test of time by churning out solid rolls of soft and fluffy cakes complete with rich and creamy fillings. Fall in love with their uber popular Kaya ($8) swiss roll that is delectably eggy and fragrant. If Durian is your thing, you''ll absolutely adore their freshly made Durian ($8) swiss roll that is mixed with white cream. For a refreshing and fruity alternative, try the Mango ($8) flavour. Fun fact: Each roll can be cut into at least 12 slices— affordable and great parties or gatherings!

A bit of old school goodness that reminds me of yester-years. Cake was soft while the kaya custard was eggy and fragrant. I know it’s probably food colouring but the light green sponge against the darker turquoise kaya custard was so pretty!

The recommendation to these rolls couldn’t be any more appreciated after having the not-up-to-expectation rolls at Plain Jane. The sponge cake here was very soft yet firm and tasted really fine. The cream was of the perfect ratio to the sponge cake. The kaya cream was very fragrant and not too sweet. For the matcha, I could taste the tea flavour which I thought was sufficient and not as subtle as the reviews. Sadly, the azuki bean flavour was almost non existent, given its limited amount in the cream. Nevertheless it’s great flavour made up for it.

Tucked at an unassuming shophouse along Kandahar Street in Kampong Glam, @richandgoodcakeshop certainly lives up to its “name”. Famous for its Swiss rolls, the signature flavour is Kaya while the bestsellers are Durian and Mango. Other flavours include Strawberry, Blueberry, Orange, Coffee, Chocolate and Green Tea with Red Bean.

$8 for a 30cm freshly baked Swiss roll might sounds pricey but I think it’s still pretty worth it! The sponge cake itself was soft, fluffy and moist. The ratio of filling to cake was just nice too, but I wish it packed a stronger punch in green tea flavour. If I’m back in that area again, I’ll love to try their Durian Swiss rolls!

Have been bookmarking this for months and finally got to try it - thanks to my Manager! She got the mango flavour - a refreshing taste with a slight tint of sourness in that sweet treat of soft, fluffy cake layered with famous old-school cake cream. It helped to slightly neutralise the entire sweetness of the dessert in itself. Would love to try their signature kaya flavour the next time round!
