Compass One outlet: For a chain restaurant, i find that @royallondonduck offers really good meats 👍 Even though i've only tried them twice (diff outlet), but have exceeded expectations on both occasions. Packed this home & it was still good, even couple of hours later. Previous review 24Mar.

Pros: Nett prices for this outlet. Helpful & friendly auntie staffs. Well-executed meats. Even though nobody really cares about plain rice, but it was fragrant and of good quality. Quite generous serving.

Price: S$8.80 - duck with char siew rice

This was the dish that actually got us pretty interested to try out the place. It is actually pretty decent, though not show-stopping awesome especially where the ends are more fatty while the middle carries a considerable amount of bite; the Char Siew itself was not as juicy as expected but I would still say it's serviceable anyway especially given it's rather comfortable level of sweetness. While I usually like my Char Siew chunky, some of the slices could be sliced thinner — makes for a more manageable chew that fits one bite better given it does seem to take a little effort to chew overall.

If anything left a good impression of the meal here, it is probably this dish. Listed on the menu as a dessert, this is actually a chilled Mochi-based dessert which has a rather chewy skin with fresh cream and mango purée within for a sweet, luscious yet slightly tart flavour; pretty good attempt for a dessert actually.

Rather peculiar how the buns came in varied sizes, but apart from the lack of uniformity in size these were pretty decent. The crust of the buns were buttery and fragrant, delivering a firm bite before reaching the Char Siu fillings within — saucey, sweet and with sizable chunks of rather fatty meat delivering a good bite. Admittedly the presentation does look a little lackluster on a plate; perhaps would have looked a little more exciting if it's served in a steamer.

Rather greasy for it was simply doused in oil, the lack of garnish also does affect the physical aesthetics of the finished product. While the level of spiciness was actually pretty on point, the egg fried in the turnip cake was just simply too mushy and crumbly. Our table did not finish this at the end.

Perhaps one of the most bland tasting rice rolls I have ever had despite the sauce it was doused in. Also pretty stingy on the shrimp here, with only one hiding in the middle of each roll here.
