This ($45) has pork loin katsu, fried shrimps, crab cream croquettes and cheese katsu. This set includes rice, miso soup, chawanmushi, cabbage and iced/hot green tea. I liked how everything was crispy and good but the pork loin katsu was a bit too tough for my liking.
Perfect tonkatsu 👌
I used to switch between Saboten and Tonkichi but over the years, the standard at Tonkichi has dropped which makes Saboten the clear winner here.
I had the Kurobuta Special Set (S$30++) which is part of its US Kurobuta menu available till 30th April. The set comprised of prawn, a half-sized loin katsu, a mini hire katsu and a crab croquette as well as cabbage, chawanmushi, miso soup, pickles, rice and ice-cream. Pretty worth it!
Each of the fried elements really stood out. Inside its crispy exterior was uniform juiciness throughout the pork. I was just utterly impressed with my meal.
A good lunch with the colleagues fuels us on for the rest of the work week!
A platter with tonkatsu, fried ebi, cream crab croquette and cheese katsu. Everything was so crispy and each item was so delicious too!
😅 Check out their seasonal Halibut Katsu! Fresh halibut fillet coated with deep-fried breaded crumbs for that perfect crunch. The loin was a bit more fattening so I’m voting for the halibut to be permanent on their menu!
Saboten used to always be my go-to for katsu (but I'm really here for the free-flow cabbage). 😛While better places have come to replace it as it as my number one katsu, I still have a soft spot for it.
This was one of their set meals which comes with a ridiculous number of sides. Two appetizers (go for the ebi karaage!), chawamushi and free-flow of the following; miso soup, rice and shredded cabbage! Add that to your pork cutlet and you come here hungry!!!
