This fell short of expectations. Very mild flavoured cookies and cream ice cream with nothing distinct to set itself apart from those you can buy off the shelves. For a ice cream cafe claiming to specialise in gelato, the texture here was nothing like gelato — it was icy and light and taste was generally subpar.

Nonetheless, the ambience here is great, staff are polite, and I would not hesitate giving scoop of joy a second chance with their other flavours. However, they do need to elevate this quintessential flavour a bit more to set themselves apart from other places.

Another flavour which fell short of expectations. For $4.90 I was expecting a more decadent or indulgent experience when it came to strawberry cheesecake ice cream. Think thick chunks of cheesecake and stronger nodes of stawberry. But this was nothing like it. Very mildly flavoured that lacked the chewy texture as expected from a gelato scoop.

Nonetheless, the ambience here is great, staff are polite, and I would not hesitate giving scoop of joy a second chance with their other flavours.

$4.20 each for Hojicha and Ondeh Ondeh because they were Premium Flavours, usually $3.20 for normal flavours. $3.50 for a single square of waffle.
New gelato shop in the heartlands of Bedok, while seemingly isolated, is actually pretty near other famous ice cream parlours such as hay gelato and fatcat.
Hojicha flavour was really good. Thick and creamy with obvious Hojicha flavour. The Ondeh ondeh didn’t make the cut for me, more coconut and less gula Melaka, when the ideal would always be a balance. The tiny bits of coconut flakes within the ice cream likewise distracted me from the flavour itself, making the scoop seem more coconut-y flavour than anything else.
Selling a single square of waffle is weird (to me), and for $3.50 is seriously pricey. I wasn’t a big fan of the waffle, not only for its price, but because it wasn’t as soft as fluffy as I desired it to be. Hopefully they come out w/ a new recipe or perfect the timing in the weeks to come!
Nonetheless, I am excited to try more flavours of ice cream in this quaint cafe.
