Customizable Bibimbap Pints Loading well-executed proteins and colourful medley of vegetables into their signature "pints”, Dosirak is run by passionate individuals that work towards creating an inclusive menu which people of different dietary requirements can enjoy. Hence, now brighter and larger, the new store at 313 Somerset is set to bring customizable bibimbaps to the town-goers. Having tried some of the options available, the Soy Citrus Salmon would be my top pick, followed by Beef Bulgogi. Flaky and fresh tasting, the salmon was first cured for the extra depth and later torched for that melty soft texture. Seasoned with their house-made marinate, the chunks were pleasantly savoury though mild in citrus. The beef, on the other hand, packed more meaty flavour but also coupled harmoniously with the crunchy add-ons. As for the sauces, the Apple Cider Gochujang was a tangy play on the traditional chili paste and catering to those who can't handle spice, the Soy Garlic Jang was simply a crowd-pleaser. Then, complete your substantial bowls (can enjoy with Burpple Beyond 1-for-1) with their belly-warming soups such as their heavenly seaweed soup which was slurp-worthy and full of umami goodness. Thank you @dosiraksg for hosting us and @burpple for the invitation!

Dosirak’s (Korean for lunch box) new outlet at @313somerset places them in a very convenient location for you to get your Korean rice bowl fix. A mix of traditional flavors and modern cooking, the ingredients and sauces are prepared with much thought and effort for that perfect mouthful. Personally, I’d recommend the Soy Citrus Salmon with the Buckwheat noodles, with either the Apple Cider Gochujang or the Soy Garlic Jang. The Soy Citrus Salmon is cured to intensify its flavor, and torched (just before serving) for that smokey umami taste - the citrus is slightly lost and it could benefit from a spritz of citrus after the torching - however, this is still super delicious even without that. I found the buckwheat noodles to be quite unique in texture and that went very well with the mad addictive Soy Garlic Jang that I chose. Never have a rice bowl without a sous vide egg, so don’t forget to add that to your order on top of your free option of 5 sides. If you enjoy your gochujang and want something special, go for the Apple Cider Gochujang which is spicy and tangy at the same time (almost like a solid BBQ sauce but not). After adding your choice of sauce, put on the lid of the pretty Dosirak box and shake to combine the sauce with the rest of the ingredients and enjoy your delicious guilt free meal (all bibimbaps are under 500kcal if you are counting calories). Whoever said healthy food always tastes bland needs to eat their words. A suggestion for the team at Dosirak would be to have an option for an upsized box for the hungry boys in the office who need their carbs to function. (As requested by my colleagues who had them for lunch earlier this week thanks to Deliveroo). Thanks to @mdyteo @dosiraksg and @burpple for the invitation and for sharing the stories behind your concept. #burpple #dosiraksg

Fast Casual Mexican Food This new establishment along Amoy Street opened by the Loco group brings you fast casual Mexican food that’s similar to their sister establishment, Super Loco. The star is definitely their chicken. The birds are organically fed, antibiotics & hormone free and free range. Each bird is brined for 10 hours, in a secret blend that’s got a splash of agave nectar, then basted with herbs and spices like dried oregano, mustard powder, and achiote, and cooked over flames for an hour. What you get, is wonderfully tender and flavorful meat! Pair it with any of their sauces (extra charges apply for each sauce). Their habenero & mango sauce is recommended and gives a nice citrusy lift. Order their street corn too! Price: from $9 for a quarter 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Avocado Toast ($15) The best avocado toast I ever had by far. Probably it’s because the multigrain is supplied by Burntends Bakery and I tell you, they are damn seeded which I LOVE IT! Topped with Smashed Avocado (I’m pretty it’s a whole avo), sunflower seeds, mint and tahini salsa. BUTTT they totally forgotten my whipped feta which I received it by the side (not pictured), no complaint cos everything was damn flvaourful and delightful. Damn yummilious!

Nubbad For After Work Dinner Naturally we ordered the chicken since that's what they specialised in. It was succulent, I just don't see myself craving roast chicken when dining out. Picked the green peppercorn & jalapeño gravy as our sauce which had a spicy rating of 1. While very tasty, that rating should be corrected to 0. Prices are reasonable for the CBD, also liked the ambience and service. Might return to try the lamb offerings.

A Good Choice - The Barramundi ($36++) Beautifully crisp of skin, the Barramundi at @cheek.sg bistro is ideal for anyone who is partial to fish. It comes in a good size cut that’s thick and tastes really fresh. But what propels the one here to the next level are the braised leeks and umami mussel-based sauce beneath. They give this dish a unique-to-Cheek distinction. The accompanying salad also plays a part as the mixed leaves come tossed in a dressing that’s deliciously nuanced ($36). Furthermore, as if she could have predicted our food order, the Rosé from @weawines recommended by Manuela when we were first seated, paired seamlessly with the fish.

Cured Trout (Price: $24++) I only managed to visit @cheek.sg three days ago, a few months after it subtly shapeshifted into a bistro. To me, the intangible but undeniably present qualities that have remained of #cheekbyjowlsg is Chef-owner Rishi Naleendra’s unique take and elegant execution of choice produce and ingredients as evidenced by the new dishes on the menu, and his wife Manuela’s disarming smile and relaxed hospitality which makes everyone immediately feel at home (she has quite the knack of changing your mind about a midday glass of wine too). I may have missed Chef Rishi that day (he’s busy getting his new restaurant on Amoy Street ready for the scheduled opening in mid July), but I saw Chef Alan more than capably holding the fort with the team during the lunch hour rush. Although my friend and I had already ordered a few dishes including the barramundi for ourselves, we were surprised by chef with the house-cured trout shown above. You can bet we were only too happy to give it a try and yes, it revealed itself to be most delicious. The layer of very fine black olives was a delightful savoury foil to the clean-tasting fish. Even more so when whooshed through the light almond cream, and interspersed with bites of the crisp, cool shaved fennel. Needless to say, the plate was as clean as a whistle by the time we were done.

This Burrata Is A Must Try ($26++) My hands-down favourite from my spontaneous lunch at Cheek Bistro. I literally went “Wow!” when I took my first bite. Though surprising, the micro herbs and crispy fried shallots went amazingly well with the creamy cheese and fresh, juicy heirloom tomatoes. What however, elevated the dish to become nothing short of spectacular was the addition of fermented green chilli. It brought an eye-opening tropical sultriness of heat, tang and intoxicating aroma that was completely unexpected but made total sense because when I had a mix of everything in my mouth, it tasted unspeakably perfect.

Buckwheat Pancake 4.9nett Didn't really impress at first as I tot of it as an average pancake that was very slightly dry. But after chewing more I could appreciate the development of buckwheat flavour and grew to like the texture as well. It's bound to taste different from the usual pancakes you have as this one uses buckwheat but give it a try. Comes with honey but go easy as it's very sweet. Have to admit after a while I liked it as much as I did the corn pancake which was more obviously a dessert. As somewhat of a food purist I usually only judge the food by itself but I have to say they do a damn good job of introducing yun nan cuisine to the masses in a classy way. There's so much effort with a small write up on nearly every one of their signature dishes. Not to mention the menu was aesthetically pleasing as well. Really impressed in every manner and one of the most memorable meals in a while. Definitely a fan of Yunnan cuisine now after this eye opening experience. Grab a group and come down cos there's so many things to try!

Corn Pancake 4.9++ Superb! Corn flavour was very very prominent and the texture was really soft and fluffy as well. Pity we had to share this lol

Beef Stew Pot Small 24.9++ Said small but it was actually quite a good portion and enough for the group to share. Found this to be the spiciest dish(the blatantly spicy kind), because most of the other dishes we requested to be less spicy. But others found the slow burn of the braised frog worse. Though the highlight got to be the beef offals. Every single part was cooked perfectly. From the soft yet flavourful tripe to the tender beef, if you're a fan of offals you're in for a treat As the last savoury dish of the meal, I felt that they had a myriad of chili usages, from powder to soup and chili sauce that's rather different from anything I've tried. Also the execution of the dishes were on point too. Moreover it wasnt too expensive(comes to about 30per pax for 6pax, and we were all stuffed).

One of my favourite things at TXA, located at the new Alkaff Mansion is the Black Rabas "A Fuego Negro" (5 for $22), or the Squid Ink Donuts. It starts with a aromatic mixture of sautéed onion carrots and bell peppers being mixed with squid and squid ink. Its reduced and moulded into round shapes before being frozen. The frozen rings are subsequently deep fried to golden brown leading to a intense unmade flavours with unbelievable melt-in-the-mouth texture. While it gets a bit rich and jelak after a while, this remains a must order for me, especially if you’re sharing.

For the Best of Basque Cuisine in Alkaff Mansion Basque (an area north of Spain and south of France) cuisine is a must-try for all foodies. Head to this romantic spot set in lush greenery, far from the hustle and bustle of town. Begin your meal with the savoury-sweet Idiazábal Con Membrillo Y Nueces ($5.90) —creamy cheese, quince jam and walnuts on bread. Try their Txangurro a la Donostiarra ($14 for 2 pax) for delightfully gratinated crab served in its shell. It pairs excellently with the refreshing Tinto De Pintxos ($18), the Basque equivalent of Sangria. Another must-try is the Spanish omelette, Tortilla de Patatas ($4.90) that is a buttery, warm and an authentic taste of Basque cuisine. Photo by Burppler Eunice Sng

BASQUE OF THE BASQUE (TXA Pintxo Bar) Go for their signature Tinto De Pintxos ($18): their version of Sangria and Super duper thick and saturated and sooooo worth it. Refreshing and perfect for accompanying the Pintxos! Contains red wine, orange juice, run and loads of fruits that the bartender let ferment for 3 days at least! Otherwise, go for the just as popular The Mansion ($18) for a potent mixture of brandy, raspberry purée, Cointreau, cherry syrup, angostura Bitters and ginger beer! Salut!

Got a little greedy because everything looked so good! 😛 The breads here are generally pricier, but quality also seems better. The mentaiko baguette was chewy (probably have to toast it a little to make it slightly crisped), but less salty (also less flavorful) than my favourite ones from Donq/Johan but I don’t really mind them. The croissant was buttery, flaky and fluffy (the air pockets!!). I actually liked the apple danish which was flaky + the fillings were not cloyingly sweet, with a little tartness. For those who are looking to try, it’s a good time now as they’re having an opening special till 20 June - 20% off most breads (save for the giant, award-winning loaves that costs $20-ish, those are going for 10% off). Will probably be back to try their Singapore-exclusives. Wouldn’t mind a little splurge for breakfast here once in awhile😬 #burpple

Red Wine Longan bread? This is one of @WuPaoChunSG award winning bread, which at $20.80 is an indulgent treat. Our favourite instead, are the Singapore limited edition flavours like Hainanese Chicken Rice and Satay breads. More on our stories!

Red Wine Longan Bread No - I didn’t have the heart 💓 to pay for this - Fortunately there were some samples that came out of the oven while I visited the shop. Nice lychee fragrance but part of the bread was a little too densed - not sure whether it was too moist because it was still warm or had the bread not risen properly 😱 20 dollars is just ( a sin ) too much to pay 🥵.
