👉Seafood Rolls👈 1/2 crab & 1/2 lobster in two different styles: SG Chilli Crab Sauce & Mentaiko Sauce 。 Just around two months old, @lobstersandicecream is a small kiosk tucked in the heart of Chinatown, serving up lobster and crab rolls, alongside with soft serve. 。 Bearing no expectations, it turned out to be a pretty disappointing experience. The portions were small, with a huge bread to seafood ratio. There were not just one but numerous crab/lobster shells being spat out from both rolls. The mentaiko sauce was just too overpowering and lacked that creamy texture I desired. They probably also forgotten to torch it for that smoky flavour before serving. The only saving grace was the buttered buns which were lightly crusted on the outside and fluffy on the inside. 。 P.S. You can enjoy 1-for-1 deals here using Burpple Beyond! Seafood Roll $23 for two with Burrple Beyond! The lobster and crab was fresh and cooked in the open. The bread was also spread with generous amounts of butter and grilled. Would try their half lobster next time! The matcha latte was too strong and bitter for my taste. Seating is quite limited and outdoors, would be quite uncomfortable on a hot day.

Seafood Roll & Icecream This place was a pleasant surprise. Compared to other lobster rolls that we’ve tried, this one is a steal. It is affordable and the servings of lobster were great for its price. We recommend the chilli crab sauce. Staff was really friendly too. Note that seating is outdoor and there are limited seats. Would come back again :-)

Carrot Cake (SGD $8) @ Kafe Utu. . Among the better versions I've had. . A warm, soft, moist carrot cake, studded with crunchy walnuts and shreds of carrot. . Topped with a rich, luscious, creamy smooth spread of cream cheese frosting infused with orange, decorated with crushed peanuts, a blackberry, a raspberry, pickled carrots, and edible flowers. . This dessert cake has a lovely fruity sweet spice cheesy flavour. Beautiful. Wanted more. . Invited tasting. . . . Kafe Utu More details in profile & blog

Marinated Roma Tomatoes Soup (SGD $16) @ Kafe Utu. . More like an appetizer than a light bite. . Fresh roma tomatoes are mashed and served as a chilled soup / broth, dressed with micro greens and extra virgin olive oil. . Style is similar to a gazpacho, with a thin grainy texture and bold vegetal sweet flavour. . Served with crisp slices of toasted foccacia bread, which have a delicate grainy bready sweet flavour. . Invited tasting. . . . Kafe Utu More details in profile & blog

Buttermilk Fried Chicken (SGD $15) @ Kafe Utu. . This features fresh chunks of tender bouncy chicken thigh, coated in a buttermilk spice batter. The result is a crunchy bite, with a bold salty savoury flavour. . But the star is the trio of home made sauces. . The mango chili marmalade (made with fresh mango, black pepper, red onions, and habanero chili) which has a sharp tangy fruity sweet spicy flavour. . The congo bongo (made with grilled bell peppers / capsicum, grilled white onions, a house spice blend, natural peanut butter, and habanero chili) which has a vegetal earthy sweet spice nutty flavour . The house chili (made with garlic, bird's eye chili, lemon juice, butter, and habanero chili) which has a sharp spicy zesty tangy flavour with a lingering burn. . Invited tasting. . . . Omurice, Cheese Sauce And Hamburg The hype finally died down a bit so we managed to get in with just 15 minutes of queueing on a weekend evening. Previously, I’ve tried to queue for this twice and both times the estimated queue time was >2 hours. The menu is straightforward with few options and we mostly went for the omurice ($9.90) with cheese sauce ($2). In my honest opinion, this is the most disappointing Keisuke outlet yet. I loved the tsukemen at Kani King (Cineleisure) and ramen at Tonkatsu King (Tanjong Pagar). The best part of the meal would probably be the extra Terkiyaki Chicken Hamburg ($3) that we ordered. However, have to say that the portions are very generous and you can even upsize the rice to large for free. Overall, would say it’s value for money but I would likely not return again.

Omurice Combo With Mentaiko Spaghetti Ordered a large version cos it's free upsize! (Diet can wait!) Omurice was very tasty and flavourful with the creamy egg, accompanied with demi glace sauce and cheese sauce (top-up $2). Mentaiko spaghetti tasted fine and is comparably less salty than others, which is a good thing. Enjoyed the complementary carbs and will return again, but not for the tiny-sized teriyaki hamburg ($3). Total damage $17.90++

Value For Money Had the omurice with the glacé sauce and special cheese sauce and it was really nice! The egg was creamy and soft and the sauces complimented it really well. For the special cheese sauce they prepare it right in front of you at your table with a small stove, I would definitely recommend it! My only gripe is that I didn’t really like the flavour of the fried rice within the omu, it got quite boring towards the end when I ran out of egg and still had rice left.

Ahhh found this gem near my hood after dinner today! Camaca serves sugar-free (!!!) desserts that uses a sugar substitute (maltose) that doesn’t enter your blood stream and is thus suitable for diabetics! We got the earl grey and lychee rose and both were so so flavourful. It was rly so hard to believe that they don’t contain sugar 🤯 the lychee rose sobert even has lychee bits inside! And the vibes of this place is rly so bomb! Can totally foresee myself coming back in future (perhaps using my #burpplebeyond for afternoon tea). Am so happy I found out about this place!! ☺️✌🏼

Rosey cheese roll [$5/slice] . . Served semi-frozen, the cream cheese filling within the rose flavoured roll cake had a texture resembling that of an ice cream instead, smooth and icy with a slight melt-in-the mouth texture. The rose flavoured sponge was soft and fluffy with a fragrant lingering floral aroma, subtle and not too overwhelming, perfuming up this sweet delight! 💕 Served with a smear of raspberry purée that added a characteristic tangy, sour note, this thick slice of Swiss roll with a well balanced of cream:sponge ratio would certainly serve as a pleasant and light afternoon treat, even better with a cup of hot coffee / tea by the side! ☕️. Thanks @camaca.sg for offering this on the house! 🙆🏻‍♀️ #sweettoothsatisfied . . . . #burpple #camacasg #sgfoodie

Fresh Bubble Tea Tried the pink guava green tea ($2.90) and it’s surprisingly very refreshing. Would definitely get it again if I’m around the area.

Interesting drinks Ordered the caramel black tea macchiato with coconut pearls ($4.90) and the black tea rock salt macchiato with honey pearls ($3.90). The coconut pearls (which contains bits of shaved coconut) has a good gritty mouthfeel and is not too sweet, while the sea salt cream went down perfectly with the tea and was a good balance between salty and sweet. 25% sugar level and medium size cup was good enough. Pearls are an extra 70cents but worth it. Burpple beyond also has the 1 for 1 offer. Do make use of it when you are here!

Black Tea Rock Salt Macchiato I had the HOLLIN Black Tea Rock Salt Macchiato with Rock Salt Pearls (Sunday flavour) at 25% sugar (Regular size $3.20 + pearls $0.70). This is one of their signature drinks, and was what the staff recommended. It is indeed a good recommendation! The staff also recommended not to mix this drink, but to drink the macchiato milk out of the sipping hole, and using the straw to drink the black tea and pearls below. I love the salty macchiato milk on top, which is a HOLLIN exclusive that has rock salt. Sipping half a mouthful of the milk, and then gulping it down with the black tea was super delicious! It wasn’t too cloyingly sweet. Personally I don’t like my bubble tea that sweet, so 25% was a good balance for me but I am also tempted to try 0% the next time around. HOLLIN’s white pearls are just the right amount of chewy, and the rock salt flavour is really nice in my opinion! I have yet to try the matcha flavour but it’s hard to make a trip down on weekdays :( in all, I actually prefer HOLLIN over LiHo and Gongcha and this is a flavour I would order again!

Jing Jing Thai Garlic Pork Neck Rice Set 😋 Basil Pork Neck Rice Set 😊 Green curry with Chicken 😋 Vermicelli salad with prawns 😕 Pretty solid Thai food tucked in the corner of potong pasir. Affordable rice sets as well! ($8) Unfortunately burpple beyond can't be used for the rice sets but it is applicable on the starters/ mains etc. Will order the above dishes again apart from the vermicelli cause it tasted mediocre.

Guess Who’s Back, Back Again No, it ain’t Shady, but Thai Jing Jing is back just like the Backstreet Boys. So my favorite Thai food joint has finally resurfaced after abruptly pulling a David Copperfield years ago, and it’s about damn time. The deep fried garlic pork tastes exactly the way I remembered it, which is a truly wonderful thing. The fabulous flavors are still present and accounted for, and it might just even be even more gloriously garlicky than before. But now that it pimp slaps my wallet for $8 instead of $5 for the exact same portion, it’s not really worth it anymore unfortunately.

For Stellar Thai Rice Sets and More Well-suited for group gatherings, this open-air space houses three concepts, including the well-loved Thai Jing Jing (yes, they're back!). The rice sets are still as good, and they each come with zingy tom yum soup and an oozy fried egg. Go for the Stir-Fried Basil Minced Chicken ($8) or the fragrant Deep-Fried Garlic Pork ($8), and share the frilly, fluffy Crispy Omelette (from $8) too. Photo by Burppler Rueann Dass
