Very economical charsiew rice! This “trendier” looking store front caught my eye when it first opened. With favepay, gimmicky marketing taglines like “daily protein bowl”, it surely stood out from the traditional roasts stalls. Expectedly, there’s no “char” on the charsiew cooked via the old school methods but it terms of taste, it isn’t too far off and in face, pretty good. Here’s a $3.50 pack of charsiew rice, laden with 2 types of gravy - 1 charsiew and 1 ‘brown’ gravy (the typical gravy you get from economical rice stores). While they used to allow you to pick and choose from a selection of veggies - cucumber, broccoli etc, they only offer cucumbers now! It’s a really value lunch in you need some quick and pocket- friendly roast for comfort!

Paradise Bowl (Roasted Pork, Roasted Chicken, Roasted Duck, Char Siew with Brown Rice) Found this rather hipster roast meat stall in the most unexpected of places at the link bridge of Pioneer MRT Station. The Paradise Bowl comes with a choice of grains (Oil Rice, Brown Rice and White Rice) whilst also coming with four types of meat of the patron’s choice (roasted meat, roasted pork, roasted chicken and Char Siew for our order), along with braised egg, braised tofu and vegetables — essentially the full works in a pretty gigantic portion size. Don’t expect the wheel to be reinvented where it concerns the execution of the meat; it is nothing life-changing, but the meats were considerably tender — the roasted pork stood out from the rest without being too fatty and with a crisp skin and flavourful spice rub. Otherwise, the brown rice was actually well-cooked, and the braised tofu comes all soft and silken. They seemingly serve their meats in Protein Bowl format too, allowing patrons to pair the meats up with salad — a pretty interesting concept that deviates from the usual roast meat stall.

Seafood Hor Fun 🍤 5-6 mins in the microwave and this Seafood Hor Fun (U.P. $4; Promo $3.50) is piping hot and ready to eat. Big flat noodles are soft with a bit of bounce in chew. While the gravy is rather plain, the charring of horfun imparts some wok hei. Stronger smoky fragrance from frying longer though, would improve it much. Fresh ingredients accompany every spoonful. With the crunch of bitter caixin, salty slices of fish cake, my favourite is the sweet burst of fresh, meaty prawns. Shredded chicken chewed tough but I might have nuked my meal a tad extra (oops!) . This Vendcafe by @chefinboxsg dispenses western and local cuisines heated, or frozen for takeaway. Blast-frozen upon cooking, it retains freshness and nutrition without processing. Some come with nutrition labels if you're conscious. It's a convenient fix, I'll say, for a late night, with drinks and snacks being options too. . Credit Cards, Nets Flash Pay and coins are allowed. Note, however, that the Western Delights machine only accepts $2 and $5 notes.

Reasons to dropby the otherwise ulu mrt station -Lakeside. @chefinboxsg serves food prepared by chefs in fururistic vending machines. They have drinks, grab-to-go snacks, chilled food (only need 30s to heat) and frozen (need 3mins to heat) at fairly affordable prices. The most convenient part is that u can use your credit cards or ezlink cards to pay. A glimpse of how the future of our food industry will be like. And u'll be surprised just how popular this vendcafe is. . We tried their dry meesiam, seafood paella, chicken and mushroom soup after a jog. Basic instant food which serves as a quick fix. . #chefinbox #brandcellar #chefinboxsg #vendcafe #meesiam

UFO (Unusual Food Outlet). Located at Jurong Point Shopping Centre, JP 2 Mongkok Street #03-89D, right opposite Crystal Jade Kitchen. Newly open shop that sells Sweet Crepe, Savoury Crepe, Japanese Rice & Drinks. All their crepes were based on French recipe and made locally here in the shop. These crepes are amazing! They are crispy on the outside, but still maintain softness in some areas in the Crepe. They created more local flavours to suit our taste bud too. This time round, we tried their Signature from the Sweet Crepe range - Sweet Nutella Sweet Potatoes & Marshmallows Crepe, $4.20. Crepe was fragrantly thin and crispy. They are quite generous with their fillings! From the top view, we can see their purple and orange sweet potatoes, marshmallow, Nutella!! Perfectly satisfying and yummy for our sweet tooth, and it’s worth-the-money as it’s rather filing! • • Thank you, Darius for hosting us! He’s very warm, friendly and even explained in detail to us the way how the crepes are used to bring out the flavor of the food! @ufosgp #hungryunicornsg #ufosgp #crepes #crepe #sweetcrepes

Nutella Sweet Potatoes & Marshmallows Crepe Situated at Jurong Point’s Mongkok Street, this is an Unusual Food Outlet (UFO) you won’t want to miss. Opened just around September last year, its menu offers a selection of mainly sweet and savoury crepes. To complete your meal, you can simply add-on a refreshing drink of your choice such as their signature, Yuzu Plum Soda. I absolutely love the yogurt popping bobas in it! Featured here is their signature sweet crepes, a perfect harmony of Nutella, sweet potatoes and marshmallows. As introduced by the owner, the crepes here at UFO are made to be on the softer side, alike French Crêpes, while still maintaining that slight crisp at the top area. It was certainly a great dessert to end the night and I can foresee myself trying the savoury crepes soon! Thanks @ufosgp for the invite! Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

In the end, we tried their Signature Savoury Sweet Potato Crepe - Salted Egg Chicken, $5.30. Salted egg sauce was fragrant and yet not overwhelming.. the chicken were so tender and juicy as they uses chicken thigh! Everything was so awesomely good!! The Yuzu Plum Soda (L), $4.50 was tasty! Soda drink infused with Yuzu plum and tasty yogurt flavour balls caught us by surprise as it burst in your mouth! It can be stacked together for convenience eating too! • • Thank you Darius for hosting us!
