Ah Gong Freestyle Pasta Found myself pretty much letting my feet get to any destination that they want and I will just settle for dinner at wherever seemed convenient — wound up at Jalan Berseh Food Centre and found this stall named Grandpa; a stall that serves up Western cuisine that is situated around the area where Sedap Thai (a halal Thai Mookata stall) is located.
Truth to be told, I had only ended up with this dish because Ah Gong Freestyle Pasta sounded like an item which sounds like a surprise on a plate — the unpredictability appealed to me on a day where there wasn’t a dish I wanted in my mind. Whilst almost everyone else around the area was enjoying sizzling grilled meats around the mookata grill at their tables, I found comfort in the Ah Gong Freestyle Pasta — its presentation might seem a little home-style, but it does feel like grandpa’s love prepared for his grandkids; the pasta comes with a rather odd, but seemingly nutritious mix of ingredients including grilled fish, grilled chicken, mix of mushrooms, carrot and broccoli. I liked how the pasta is al-dente here with a good bite, but it was the sauce that was pretty intriguing — somewhat of a garlic butter sauce that is seemingly a little bit on the “watery” side in terms of consistency; probably intended to be done so as it was surprisingly light and not “jelat” given how it wasn’t cloying. My favourite would be the grilled chicken chunks that came along with it; carried a whiff of herb-y aroma whilst being all savoury and still juicy, and did also carry a bit of chargrilled flavour that made it pretty flavoursome. The grilled fish was also pretty well-executed; still flaky and moist, while the mushrooms carried a good bounce that added more texture to the dish — the carrots and broccoli gives the extra crunch, and provided the pasta with a feel of wholesomeness.
There are other dishes on the menu at Grandpa that would appeal to the wider audiences such as the Chicken Chop, Fish & Chip and Lamb Chop — the stall also offers some other rather interesting dishes such as the Chicken in a Basket, and the Norwegian Salmon Steak. That said, the Ah Gong Freestyle Pasta probably has a special place here — not just simply an item offered in the menu, but likely also a comforting dish that speaks of home in the hearts for those who appreciates it.
