Great (but Expensive) Takeaway Coffee Incredible coffee at %Arabica. %Arabica’s flagship store is in Kyoto, but after much success they’ve quickly opened branches around the world - with the one in Singapore having opened August 2018. Their coffee is extremely high quality. The geographic origin of the beans varies by season so you’re getting tip-top premium coffee all year round. Comes at a price though. I had both a classic iced latte ($8 for small, $9 for large), and a Spanish hot latte, made with condensed milk🤤 ($7.80/8.80). Think I nearly medically-overdosed on caffeine so will come back another time to try the matcha latte (the guy after me ordered it but I decided 3 drinks for myself was excessive🍵). Also, they do have ‼️oat milk‼️ upon request!! The design of the store is very minimalist, and very instagrammable. Bright whites and sparkling clean. The baristas also give off a really cool/chic (/intimidating?) vibe. The shop is small, so would recommend grabbing coffee to go. They have a few pastry options, but no other food. . 💰: $-$$ - expensive for coffee!!! You better love and be able to appreciate premium coffee if you’re gonna cough up $8-$10 for a cup. . ⏰: 8am-8pm daily . 📍: 58 Arab Street

Cool your sunny day! It is on a very steep price for a coffee. Worth a try but not sure if I’ll be back for more.

Butter Croissant Most people came here for their coffee, but they do have some pastries available here. I could say it wasn’t really as good as other but definitely worth having it. $3.20

Really Wonderful Place For Dates Good crowd control measures, has cat welfare in mind and ensures a good balance for customer experience by sharing their wealth of knowledge about cats and also encourages proper interactions between the cafe cats and patrons. Cats are happy, so are patrons. Beautifully done up and ample privacy between spaces. Good for dates who love cats and getting to know each other better as well. Photos allowed, cannot stress more about no flash photography. A lot of idiots at the zoo and aquariums don't seem to understand why flash photography is bad. I would like to have them rounded up in a tiny glass tank and then have thousands of cameras flash them day in and out. Thank you for reading.

Meomi Of course food is not the main focus of this cafe but since Burpple recommends all food places including cafes, why not talk about this here? Basically you pay $12 for a drink of either juice or tea (including fancy names like champ meow tea) and an hour with their 7 house cats. Here's one that looks like a rug. Their drinks taste pretty standard, out of a packet or tea bag so nothing fancy but you get to spend some time stroking, picturing and feeding the cats. Tell me who's the one really eating at this cafe! 🤔

Matcha Latte ($7) Matcha flavour is mild in Baker & Cook’s matcha latte. Okay for a quick fix, but there’re other places nearby that serve up better matcha lattes. Did like the small brownie cube provided to go along with their beverages, which was chocolatey and soft.

Cappuccino (Regular, $5.80 + $1 Soy Milk) My strongest impression of this cuppa is the extremely thick and creamy foam layer. It’s also dusted with cocoa powder - yums! The coffee taste is quite strong in this one and it felt like the milk-coffee ratio was skewed. Overall still not bad!

Chocolate Lamington ($5.80) & Chocolate Almond Croissant ($4.30) Chocolate Lamington was like a crumbly chocolate cake coated with dessicated coconut. While it was soft, the cake was on the dry side. We did appreciate that the chocolate flavour was prominent and that the lamington was not just chocolate-coloured. The chocolate almond croissant was served slightly warm which melts the chocolate filling and really helps increase enjoyment of this pastry. The croissant texture here can’t hold a candle to the airy, crisp, flaky likes of Mother Dough or OMC, but I appreciated the generous amounts of molten chocolate filling and almond slices. Even though there’s no marzipan filling, I’d choose this chocolate croissant over Mother Dough’s anytime due to the amount of chocolate inside. However, OMC’s is a clear winner in this category. Still nice to pick up if you’re craving a quick bite as Baker & Cook is conveniently located in Bugis Junction!

Irregular Sized Scones I came to this cafe many times and the scones were always sold out. Finally got my hands on one today (my second time having the scone), and I felt kinda cheated. I saw on the racks with bigger sized scones but perhaps I did a takeaway, they chose an extremely small one for me.

Chicken Tikka Sandwich ($13.90 before gst & service charge) Part of their weekday set lunch menu that gives you complimentary soup of the day or dessert. I chose dessert - small slice of nutty cake with a layer of chocolate sauce on top. Chicken breast+pesto+tomato+brie+sauce that taste like subway sweet onion between hot pressed ciabatta. Sandwich comes with a side of salad that seems to have no dressing so I did not touch that (maybe I should have added that to my sandwich in hindsight😂) Sandwich is nicely toasted. I like the sauce and bread but chicken breast is chicken breast - dry. Decent cafe sandwich at cafe prices. Will I go for the sandwiches again? I don’t know. Not the ones with chicken probably.

Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Tart ($8.45) At first glance, the tart looks shallow and I was worried the crust will be too thick and filling too little. I bought it because I was craving for chocolate tart😂 The crust is thick and buttery - in this case the thickness is just right because the dark chocolate and caramel is so rich, gooey and thick that you need a nice buttery crust to balance the richness. More filling would have made this tart too gelat to finish. Dark chocolate sea salt caramel combo never fails. I like the tart and will definitely buy it again. However, when I cut into it I noticed a huge blob of super sweet icing. Then I realised it must have been the icing they used to stick the tart base to the “tart holder” ( I have no idea what’s it called). Remember to check the bottom and scrap them off. I saw they have naked dark chocolate sea salt caramel cake too. Will give that a try next time

Salmon with couscous ($15) Salmon with couscous $15 8.5/10 Salmon was well cooked and succulent. They served the salmon skin which was very crispy on the side. Everything was well seasoned. Couscous was lesser than expected though. Overall good experience.

Vegetarian gnocchi With Meatballs $15+ It wasn't good at all. The gnocchi was mushy, the mushroom and meatballs were BONE DRY. The meat balls, when I chewed, it was like chewing on dry grainy jerky and rubber. It wasn't very flavourful and the onions weren't really caramelised as described on the menu. My Friend had the smoked salmon pasta and there were only two very thin slices of smoked salmon with soggy old tomato pasta and it cost around $18. Really disappointed and didn't live up to our expectations. The staff were nice but the food was totally not worth the money at all. Even Hawkers center western is 10 times better than the food we got. Sorry but not sorry. Will not come back again sadly

Mac & Cheese Burger + Beef Patty ($16) The title of this post is self-evident of how sinful this burger is. In its original form, it is simply a baked Mac & Cheese sandwiched in between two burger buns. Add on a juicy compact beef patty at $5 to give it that extra bite, and perhaps you could consider adding on a beef/turkey bacon or even a sunny side-up egg if you intend to turn the other cheek on being health-conscious. There are several sides you could choose to add on to your burger. I got the Old Fashioned Truffle Fries, which is your rehashed formula of shoestring fries fried in truffle oil and garnished with shredded parmesan. I'm not complaining though - I generally swing with them. The ones we got were lukewarm, to my slight disappointment, but they are still pretty darn tough to resist. If you're around Bugis or North Bridge Road, consider giving Wilder a go. They can be easy to miss as their small hideout blends in the scattershot of halal cafés nearby, but they are recognisable by their rustic, nature-inspired brownness. (7.5/10)
