Squid Ink bone marrow from South Union Park. Tastes as good as it looks, although it was more subtle in flavours that the visuals would suggest.⠀ On the other hand, the Duck Confit with house made tagliatelle was a blast, with bits of hazelnut for texture.⠀ The restaurant is a gem in a quiet neighborhood, 5 minutes up a gentle slope from Kembangan MRT. Good service and cosy decor too.⠀

Beef Ragu Spaghetti $23+ A satisfying bowl of pasta with many pieces of beef. Beef was not as soft as I expected it to be but was still marinated well and tasty. Was happy with the ratio of pasta to beef as it was just nice, unlike some places where they give few pieces of meat! The base of the pasta was very tasty too and was not too oily. The spaghetti doesn’t really absorb the sauce so remember to scoop some sauce to accompany the pasta to maximise the flavour. Portion wasn’t too big too but enough for me, but still a little pricey after burpple beyond. Food came very quickly though, which was great because I was hungry. Free water provided too :)

impossible burger $24+ The cheese veggie patty was super tasty and full of flavour despite it not having any meat. It was soft and juicy. The bun was buttery and soft. Fries were crispy and had quite a generous serving, along with the salad. There was no gst but service charged was charged for both items when using burpple beyond, so paid around $14.5 for this in the end. Not super cheap but was a good try. Might come back to try the other items as they looked interesting.

What BTM Mussels call their take on the croque monsieur, I call a bikini sandwich. But whatever you choose to call it won’t change the fact that it’s utterly delicious. The rendition sees black truffle paste, comté, and serrano ham snuggled between 2 slices of generously buttered, well-toasted bread. Just imagine your fave ham & cheese sarnies tszujed up in a fancy-ass, but extremely elegant, black tie suit: this is it. I like how liberal they were with the butter so you get that really moist, browned butter kinda caramelised notes on the toast. Parfait 👌🏻

Curry Mussels and Fries ($36++). Last evening I visited this new restaurant along Duxton, which is serving up good mussels at very affordable prices. These aren't the usual Australian mussels that we are so used to having, these are really good seasonal Bouchot mussels from France and across Continental Europe. 🔸 BTM Mussels is inspired by owner Olivier Bendel’s restaurants at the Léon de Bruxelles group in France, where he has developed 250 recipes for mussels. At Duxton, only seven of the most popular flavours are available at one time. But they're planning to rotate the flavours, so progressively they'll be serving more of the 250 recipes they've developed. 🔸 One of the seven flavours available at the moment is Red Curry. While it has some cream in it, this flavour also included white wine and butter in its mix, and some parsley and onions. It was served with crisp golden French fries, which will also come with any mussels ordered here. 🔸 But there were some other flavours that I like more than this curry mussels. I'll share it with you next time, or you can DM me if you're going soon, and I'll tell you what to order. 🔸 [Tasting] #btmmussels #sgfood #iweeklyfood #whati8today #eatoutsg #sgfoodporn #foodpornsg #sgigfoodies #singaporeinsiders #sgeats #foodsg #singaporefood #burpple #hungrygowhere #instafood_sg #exploresingapore #foodiesg #singaporeinsiders #burpplesg #sgbakery #foodstyling #seafood #jiaklocal #pastry #frenchmussels #sgbrunch #bluemussels #brunchsg #breakfastsg

For 500g Mussels & Fries (save~$35) Get your hands dirty and your bellies filled at this spot on Duxton Hill. You're here for the small but incredibly sweet French Bouchot Mussels ($36 for 500 grams). Have them done Marinieres-style — white wine with butter, parsley and onion. Otherwise, go for the Thailandaises, a satisfyingly spicy rendition with chilli, Kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass, white wine and coconut milk. Photo by Burppler Victoria Hii

4 Dons For 3 Pax TLDR: nice beef bowl and unagi, but would not recommend salmon mentaiko. We were hungry and saw that the portions were quite small and hence used 2 x burpple beyond to get 4 rice bowls for 3 pax. We got 1 wagyu beef bowl large (normally $13) and unagi don (normally $12), and another beef bowl plus salmon mentaiko (normally $12). The size seemed unassuming but the rice was very filling. Beef and unagi don were tasty and the sauce on the rice were sufficient and great. But salmon was very little, like a thin layer on top of the rice. No or minimal sauce underneath too (understandably tho, not supposed to have sauce anyway). Just that it became kinda dry?

Gyu Nami Bowls $20 Tried out this 2 for $20 deal after an intense gym sesh. The deal comprises of 1 large Wagyu beef bowl and another normal bowl. So we took the Unagi bowl. Albeit smaller than the large bowl, it was quite filling. Enjoyed this quick lunch with a can of coke. Lady who served us was friendly. She offered a nearby empty table to place our bags on the seats first as there were no customers yet. 8/10 will return!

Wagyu Roast Beef Donburi - Large ($13) The one problem with this meal is that it’ll eventually end. The large portion size is very reasonable for the price they give and even if it turns out small, it is still very filling. The beef slices and are well cooked and lightly peppered and doused with their own white sauce (I think it tastes a bit like mayo-ish?). The rice buried under all this is also enriched with a sweet savoury sauce to complement the beef. Come here if you are looking for a good don that is worth your money! Beyond offers a deal for 2 dons at $20!
