For 1-for-1 Chicken Pot (S) (save ~$20) Hanging out at Bugis with the crew? This Sichuan joint's got some mean mala dishes that will satiate cravings. Get the 'Numbing and Fiery' flavoured House Special Chicken Pot ($20) to share, where tender chicken sits in a thick and fragrant spicy sauce with a generous amount of peppercorn stalks (making it extra numbing!). For The Ma La Lovers - Numbing & Fiery Chicken Pot (Small, $20) The Chicken Pots come in three sizes - small, medium & large. The small one costs $20 and is valid for Burpple Beyond redemption - yay! Just a look at the Numbing & Fiery pot and you can tell it’s gonna be numbing with those generous stalks of peppercorns. We opted for the 小辣 as we weren’t sure how hot it would be, and didn’t want to unknowingly torture our stomachs at 10pm. Turns out we needn’t have worried about the spiciness, because the numbing taste was what we should’ve looked out for. The portion in the small pot was pretty good for one person and it was very cheap with the 1 for 1 redemption. There’s only chicken in the pot, but it’s tender and super flavourful. You can add on ingredients to cook (you can DIY or ask the staff to put it in directly when serving), which soaks up the amazing flavours. Would recommend putting in some beancurd skin especially if you love ma la cos it soaks up the taste pretty well! It’s worth noting that the service here is great - friendly, super attentive and helpful, they even switched to English when conversing when we had confused faces on. Would totally go back to Fat Bird not just for their hotpots, but for their Main Dishes too!

House Special Chicken Pot ($20) There are four signature flavours eligible for Burpple Beyond Chicken Pot redemption and this is one of them. If you’re not a fan of spicy food, yet want something full of savoury flavour, this would be a good choice. I’ve tried a handful of chicken pots, and I would say this is the best I’ve had so far. The sauce is thick, fragrant and well balanced. It’s definitely not too salty, even if you eat it without rice. The portions of chicken in the small pot are good enough for 1 person, but you can always add more ingredients if you like. I particularly liked adding beancurd skin inside this pot to cook and soak up the savoury gravy. Preferred having this pot ‘to go long’ over the ma la flavour, but it was nice to have the Numbing & Fiery chicken after a few bites of the House Special for that sudden punch of spice. Both of them make a good combination to order with Burpple Beyond!

4 Tier Pagoda Steamboat Went to try the 4 tier pagoda steamboat today☺️ Options were plenty with different seasonings of meat such as tomyum, barbeque, korean fusion, extra spicy etc. There were also seafood items such as bamboo clams, lala, mussels, sotong, prawn and fish! There were many other ingredients too(which you can check out their menu), alongside drinks and icecream! Had a great feast😋 The good thing about this place is theres no time limit, thus my friends and I ate for 2.5 hrs haha insane😜 2 soup bases and 1 dip could be selected. We chose the pork bone broth and the tomyum soup. I personally wouldnt recommend the pork bone broth as it didnt suit my tastebuds(not that im picky, it just tasted a little weird). The tomyum soup was not bad tho! Overall the buffet was an 7/10 for me as there are plenty of options, but for the price of $22++ before gst during weekday lunch, its a lil steep but a great 4 tier steamboat experience☺️💯👍🏻

Value For Money Porridge Buffet! Wanted to share about this place with $8.80 porridge buffet cos I was quite impressed with their dishes variety and food standard. Dishes are all hot, and they continually replace the dishes with new ones once they run out, couldn’t really pinpoint any dishes that were not up to standard. My 2 folks were thoroughly satisfied 👍🏻👍🏻

What I had in my hot pot? I’ve ordered Korean kimchi soup and requested for less chilli. A marriage of kimchi and chicken soup sounds good! The service crew was attentive and offered to add more chicken soup on my visit when the soup is running low. Did I saw wagyu chunk eye roll? Nom noms! The tender and marbled Wagyu beef simply do wonders to our hot pot. I’ve also noticed that the meat is freshly sliced upon order on our visit. . Read on foodgem.sg/food/chinese/city-hot-pot . If you’re a hot pot lover and work in the CBD, check out City Hot Pot at wallet-friendly prices. We have ordered their popular set B (S$59.99 for 2 pax) that comes with 10 items including Wagyu chunk eye roll, pork collar, fish fillet, prawns, prawn paste, luncheon meat, crab stick, vegetable platter, mushroom combo and one staple. There are 12 different soup bases to choose from the classic chicken soup, Sichuan spicy, Thai Tom yum soup, tomato to Korean kimchi soup to the recommended fish soup (+S$1), bak kut teh (+S$2), prawn (+S$3) soup. At City Hot Pot, we were served individual hot pot. That’s hassle-free as my friend is allergic to seafood while I’m a big fan of seafood! Each set meal is inclusive of a variety of sauces and appetisers. . Read on foodgem.sg/food/chinese/city-hot-pot . Make your reservations via @quandoo_sg now! . Where to dine? Beef Short Ribs ($11++ With #burpplebeyond) This is now our regular hotpot haunt in the East due to it's authenticity and plentiful nearby parking. We always order the sichuan base which we find spicier than the chongqing beef pot. There's also the popular collagen soup base for non 🌶️ eaters. Recommend dishes are the beef Short Ribs (normal price $22++ for the portion pictured), beef skewers, beef stomach, dumpling platter, half shell scallops, fried bean curd rolls and fried pork (酥肉). The red grouper isn't fresh so skip that. 💡: 20% or higher eatigo will make it a better deal than beyond (sorry burrple! Gotta be realistic here).

Authentic Chinese Hotpot In The East About 3 months old, this newly opened hotpot is just off the main stretch of Tanjong Katong eateries (where there are also 2-3 wannabe hotpot places). Similar presentation, quality and service to the ever-popular Beauty in a Pot, without the queues (and all the weird bowing). Price range is also similar (about $50/pax) but it offers generous eatigo discounts if you are willing to eat at odd hours. Great for groups as there are comfy booth seats for 4-6 pax as well as larger round tables. As you should know, any legit sichuan hotpot always has 酥肉 (pictured) and this one is superbly well fried and tender- you can eat it as is, or dip it in the soup base. The chilli covered beef skewers are another authentic thing I seldom see in Singapore wannbe-sichuan hotpot restos (only 同心如意 has them). Plus points for another great addition to the East. 🚗 : convenient and plentiful ERP (unsheltered) parking on the opposide side of the overhead bridge (in front of Canadian international school)

Fancy Hotpot Place. Basically the only wow factor is the presentation. Other than that the food was so so and we felt thirsty after walking out of the restaurant.

Steamboat Buffet [$28.80++/pax on Weekends and PHs] Walked up and down Liang Seah street, aka steamboat street now 😂, before finally settling with this place! They have an ala carte option as well but we went for the standard 90 minutes buffet (they’re quite strict during peak hours). If I didn’t remember wrongly, the premium buffet is around $32++, but it looks more worth if you take beef - we saw many tables ordering plates and plates of them! The trio soup base is an additional $8 top up per table with their mushroom base as a default. We went for tomato and ma la for the other two. They have a good range of veg, seafood, etc. that is available for you to take, while their fish and meats are prepared on order. Ingredients were all pretty fresh I must say! Ma la broth was drinkable and the mushroom base was comforting. Overall it’s affordable for its variety plus free flow drinks and ice cream, but it got really stuffy after awhile. Ventilation inside is not the best, it might be cooler sitting outside if you’re coming for dinner! Weekdays’ pricing per pax is $25.80++.

Premium Buffet Took the premium buffet, totally worth it! Service is good! Look at this portion for 2 pax only! And it’s buffet!

Steamboat Buffet Rein by their signature mushroom soup base, they have both ala carte and buffet options. In exact, 2 kind of buffet options - the normal one and the premium one which includes additional items like wagyu, black pork, scallops etc. For the usual normal selection, it has a decent variety of pork belly, beef belly, pork shoulder, tender beef slices, fish slices, handmade balls, mushrooms and veggies etc. All their ingredients are fresh and timely replenished. Among all the soup stocks, I still personally like the mushroom one, it’s light and flavorful. While the mala base is kind of fragrant but lack the oomph while the herbal soup is easily sweetened up with all the ingredients added into it. Quite worth the buck I would say! But it gets really crowded! So there’s a time limit during peak period and to avoid the queue remember to make a reservation!
