Chicken Shish Kebab ($23++) You know that cafe along Orchard Road right in Tangs Marriot that most locals walk past on the way to Far East Plaza but never quite seem to stop and enter? That’s Crossroads Cafe. I think the restaurant is really popular with expatriates or tourists, as it was full even at 7pm on Thursday night. I confess that if it weren’t for Burpple Beyond, I probably wouldn’t have suggested this as a dinner location with my friends. Crossroads Cafe has two different Burpple Beyond offers - 1 for 1 Main Dishes and 1 for 1 Cocktails. We arrived in time for Happy Hour (before 8pm), and got a Sangria for $10++. The Chicken Shish Kebab was not eligible for the 1 for 1 offer, but it was one of the seasonal dishes from the Middle East available till 30 November. For $23, I was very satisfied with the portion size. Though it was quite carb heavy with the pita bread and fries. Perhaps a choice of more salad instead of fries would have been nice. I wasn’t quite a fan of the pita bread as it wasn’t fluffy, it was dense and compacted, plus it was quite hard to cut with a knife. That said, the greek yogurt sauce, mixed greens and grilled chicken were 💯. The chicken kebab was nicely seasoned, plus the meat was super soft. I love the lemon yogurt dressing which added a tang to the grilled chicken. Definitely worth a shot if you’re visiting Crossroads before end of November.

For 1-for-1 Main Dish (save ~$30) When weekends come around and brunch beckons, head over this al fresco cafe at the entrance of Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel. Come with an empty stomach and dive straight for the lavish Crossroads All-Day Breakfast Platter ($27) – think bacon, mushrooms, hash brown, eggs and sausage paired with toast (choice of sourdough or wholemeal) or an English muffin. Don't miss out on the decadent Primetime Burger ($38), featuring lightly seasoned wagyu beef patty accompanied by seared foie gras, bacon, Stilton cheese, pickled onions, arugula and a spread of black garlic aioli sandwiched between a charcoal bun. Chicken Breast With Risotto $30 Nice food, nice presentation, good portion size. Expect around $100 for 2 with drinks. Very romantic yet chilled out vibe. The best part about this place is the Ambience. Right in the middle of orchard Road with outdoor seating. Will definitely visit again some day.

This would probably be 1 of our favourite finds around the Amoy-Telok Ayer area, amongst the countless restaurants. Interestingly, they weren’t as packed as some others although we felt they were as good, if not better than some. We liked that their appetisers were priced reasonably and came in small portions so we could try more varied dishes. We enjoyed what we had, grilled prawn, crab croquettes and especially the grilled octopus that was on point. We picked their spiced glazed pork belly which was spectacular and yummy good, flavourful and great meat-fats proportions that was pleasant to enjoy. There were more appealing sounding items on their mains, pasta and risotto list for a sumptuous meal. Similarly for their appetisers that we liked. But we were glad we saved space for dessert as the red wine poached pear we had was really memorable to end with. We would recommend to wine and dine here after having some of their cocktails and absolutely loving them. Have a little chat with Mr Star who may concoct some special mix in your drinks if you’re not going for the wine. The interior of @mpiresingapore was chic and cosy, for a formal date or comfortable gathering. The final highlight: members of @burpplebeyond would be delighted to enjoy the incredible valuable deals here. So sharing this good find, hopefully not at the expense of being harder to get a table next time.

Seafood Risotto The tomato-based Seafood Risotto ($24) from Mpire comes with octopus, tiger prawns, mussels and crabmeat, and I must say that the taste and texture are on point. The risotto is flavourful, packed with umami and the seafood is chunky and fresh. Although the portion is not big, I’m not complaining given that there is an one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond:) Wouldn’t mind returning to try out the other items on the menu!

Average Western Fare Had the prawn aglio olio (~$25) abs the jazz burger (~$23) both tasted really average and nothing to shout about. Jazz burger was slightly drier and less oily than normal burgers (smth I liked bc I didn’t like oily burgers) but wedges were too stale and dry. Aglio olio was very garlicky and generous with the prawns but again didn’t stand out as compared to other aglios I had. 6.5/10

Okonomiyaki Flatbread Pizza ($25++) Knew I had to order it as soon as I saw it cause okonomiyaki on a pizza? Yes please! Though I preferred the mushroom & truffle pizza, this was definitely a good attempt at innovating new fusion dishes 👍🏻👍🏻 Toppings were generous with the flatbread base holding baby octopus, cabbage and tomatoes, topped off with okonomiyaki and Japanese mayo sauce and bonito flakes! 🤤🤤 Though the flatbread base received mixed opinions around the table, I personally enjoyed their pizzas here, especially with eatigo’s 50% off. Service was also impeccable with constant water refills (even when our jug was only half empty) 👍🏻👍🏻

Carnivore Platter ($49++) Great for sharing among meat lovers! The platter came with half a rack of BBQ Baby Back Ribs, 4 Harry’s Signature Wings, sliced Italian Pork Chipotle, 5 sticks of Chicken Satay and a small mountain of Tandoori Chicken. Ribs were pretty tender with a good portion of fat, and we knew it when they didn’t serve the ribs with a steak knife cause the meat easily tore off the bones and was well flavoured 🤤🤤 A pity they were small and the meat wasn’t that much though. Chicken wings were every bit as crispy as a good Har Cheong Gai minus the prawn paste taste. Sausages were decent, satay was pretty eh and satay peanut sauce was a little too watery. Tandoori Chicken wasn’t the true Indian tandoori but seasoning was pretty alright. Overall, really value for money with eatigo’s 50% off and shoutout to the good service with constant water refills (even when our jug was only half empty) 👍🏻👍🏻
