British Fare At Bread Street Kitchen I am a fan of Gordon Ramsay due to US MasterChef so of course I had to visit Bread Street Kitchen when it arrived on our shores. I had high hopes for the dishes and ordered crowd pleasers such as traditional British fish & chips served with crushed peas and tartare sauce, slow roasted Dingley Dell pork belly with apple purée and whole grain mustard jus and butternut squash risotto topped with crispy sage and parmesan. The dishes were tasty enough but none really took me by surprise. Could be due to the fact that I had such sky high expectations or just that British fare wasn’t my cup of tea.

Fish & Chips How can I not eat this classic British pub fare at a restaurant opened by a British chef? BSK's version is a rather affordable $29, a no-frills affair served with tartar sauce and mushy peas. There are condiments available; a tiny jar of ketchup and vinegar. The chips to me were the highlight of the dish. Thick-cut and chunky, they were hot, fresh and crispy. They went perfectly with any of the condiments; their ketchup is really really good. Its apparently imported from England and not your usual Heinz stuff; there is a rich fruity flavor that paired beautifully with the chips. The fish took a backseat though. The batter was mostly air, and the fish underneath is cod but wasn't super flavorful. I thought the dish as a whole could be better seasoned. Also the mushy peas were very bland but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be that way. 7.5/10

Flatbread Starter This is a tortilla-esque crispy flatbread topped with fennel and pork sausage, spinach, creme fraiche, chili and shallot. ($28) It tastes like a delicious fancy cousin of a thin-crust pizza. The creme fraiche is like a refreshing, cold version of a white sauce and goes really well with the spinach (makes it taste kind of like creamed spinach) and makes a great anchor for the flavor profile of the pizza. Then the shallot and red chili kind of provide a burst of strong flavor in the background to contrast against the tangy, cool creme fraiche (although the chili was a bit too overwhelming for me) and the saltiness of the sausage. The sausage strangely didn't contribute much to the pizza except a mild umaminess and they look like blobs of meat. The thin flatbread meant that it served merely as a vessel to deliver the flavors and textures to my palate. Which is right up my alley. 9/10

Shanghai Tang Afternoon Tea Was a pretty fun experience but the seats could have been better for a more chillax afternoon tea. Love the savoury bites over the sweet ones and our favourite is the original scone w cream cheese 😍 #foodislife #nicheats

More Mosquitos Than Diners It's our second visit, to celebrate my birthday. My clique had a memorable dinner here about two years back and we have always wanted revisit but the location deterred us. Today's service was incredibly unsatisfying with a crazy amount of mosquito, the 5 of us were actively swatting mosquito off our skin. The place was empty when we arrived and i requested for a table in indoor area but was informed that it was reserved. Waitress depended on her memory to take our order, and missed my order despite repeating our orders to us. A passing waiter was tasked to check on the ribs but he conveniently forgot us, even tho the place was practically empty. Food quality wise, the photo of the Tiramisu cake is a good representation of what they served. The cake initally came with a mouldy strawberry (it was obviously mouldy, sadly we didn't get a photo of it) so we requested for a change of cake. The mould tainted slice returned with a new strawberry, as seen in photo. Definitely did not give me a happy birthday. No surprise, by the time we left, the indoor area (and most of the restaurant) was empty. Who reserved it?

Egg ($28). What's simply known as "Egg" on the menu is actually a luxe European dish with freshly shaved black truffles. The egg is slow-cooked at 62 degrees, so that it's molten but still creamy. It's then served in a savoury bed of 24-months-aged Parmesan fondue which is good on its own, but even better when mixed together with the egg. 🔸 This is then served with two textures of asparagus, slices of black summer truffle from Umbria (Italy), and garnished with affila cress. 🔸🔸🔸 [Tasting] #foodphotography #exploresingapore #burpple #singaporeinsiders #sgfood #foodsg #instasg #foodstagram #instafood_sg #foodcoma #f52grams #hungrygowhere #foodgasm #sgfoodblogger #vscofood #onthetable #sgig #yummy #eeeeeats #singapore #albatruffles #whitetruffles #europeanfood #finedining #truffles #tablescape #tablescapesg #europeanfood #finedininglovers #blacktruffles

Festive set desserts Apple ($45++/4 courses). Choose between the Apple or Log Cake to end off this marvelous festive set at @tablescapesg. Highly recommending the signature Apple, that portrays the richness of winter apples, nothing but a quintessential Christmas dessert. Served on a crispy tart shell layered with smooth cream cheese and warm cinnamon apples. The spicy woodiness was a perfect complement to the cold herbaceous, lightly-flavoured chamomile ice cream.

Festive set desserts Log Cake ($45++/4 courses). While log cakes are usually a symbolic Christmas dessert, the chocolate mousse in this particular one was overwhelming that masked everything else on that plate. Even as a sharing dessert, it was too much to handle. Filled with Raspberry Cremeux and served with fig ice cream on the side. I enjoyed the mild sweetness in the fig ice cream though!
