Cubano ($16) ⭐️ 3.5/5 ⭐️ Cheese Steak ($16) ⭐️ 3/5 ⭐️ 🍴Don’t think I’ll ever pay full priced for these cause $16 for a sandwich seems pretty ridiculous but decided to give it a try with #burpplebeyond 1-1. The #cubano was good, coming in a nicely toasted crisp bread (that sadly got a bit hard & tough as it cooled). There was generous amounts of flavourful pulled pork that went well with the juicy butter pickles, mustard & cheese. The #cheesesteak includes sliced beef brisket with molten cheese sauce. While tender and tasty, the beef didn’t really taste like beef (maybe cause we aren’t fans of brisket style) and it can get a bit jelat. The menu also states there are onions but sadly, we didn’t see / taste any onions in our sandwich. Do note it’s quite a big portion! Good for sharing 👍🏼 📍@parkbenchdeli, 179 Telok Ayer Street #cafehoppingtanjongpagar

In conjunction of Singapore Food Festival 2018, both @parkbenchdeli and @roastparadise have collaborated for a one-day only popup and they created the Roast Meat Banh Mi ($18) and Roast Meat Combination ($20). If for whatsoever reason that you have missed out on this exclusive collaboration, you have “meat” out on some amazing roast, especially the Roast Meat Banh Mi. Using Roast Paradise’s own char siew, it is sandwiched between a French roll with other winning ingredients such as the siew yoke (roasted pork), chicken pate and mustard aioli. The accomplishments of carrot & daikon pickles, cucumber and coriander added crunch, freshness and zing into the banh mi, creating a balanced flavour from each bite. _________________ Park Bench Deli Address: 179, Telok Ayer Street, Singapore 068627

The Pleasure Of Pop-ups Pop-ups can be one of the best places to discover new food. Or to get your hands on something you’ve been dying to try but haven’t had a chance, like I did today at the @parkbenchdeli X @roastparadise event. The latter’s “char siew” and “sio bak” are legendary and I have yet to brave the queues for them, so this pop-up presented the perfect opportunity. Plus knowing how good the sandwiches at “Park Bench Deli” (PBD) are, it’s a sure-win sitch. So I hustled over there once my lunch event at “Birds Of A Feather” ended. And even though I was feeling quite full at that point, I got myself the “Roast Meat Banh Mi” ($18). This thing of beauty comprised of a light, crisp French roll spread with a thick layer of chicken pate and chunky cuts of the two meats from “Roast Paradise” that have long been on my wishlist. The richness of those was balanced deliciously with carrot and daikon pickles, fresh coriander, cucumber and mustard aioli. I couldn’t help but whack the whole thing, with a little help from a refreshing cocktail by @leontbk of @nativebarsg that complemented the flavours beautifully. The next PBD collab I’m very excited for is the one with “Rumah Makan Minang” (@minang.sg) happening on Sunday, 29th July. Whatever they will be serving (did someone mention a Beef Rendang Sandwich?) will have mocktails to match. Yes, out of respect for their halal partner in this pop-up, they will not be serving any alcohol.

Finally returned here after idk how many years! My favourite is still the Earl Grey Lavender for its subtle floral taste and strong early grey flavour without being cloyingly sweet. Pretty impressed with their consistently good quality. Thumbs up for the waffle as well — crispy outside and fluffy inside. And the best part is of course the one-for-one deal from #burpplebeyond 💕 * * * #burpple #whati8today #8dayseat #VSCOcam #vscofood #dessert #food #waffle #eatoutsg #openricesg #brunchsituation #sgfoodies #foodstagram #foodporn #foodgasm #stfoodtrending #sgfood #instafood #igfood #SingaporeInsiders #onthetable #exsgcafes #foodphotography #hungrygowhere #tslmakan #sgig #sgcafefood #wheretoeat #eeeeeats

Double the dose, Double the sweetness~ Using #burpplebeyond, I can happily have two single Waffles with Softserve ($10.70) at the price of one! • Known for their freshly baked Belgian waffles loaded with spiral of freshly churned ice cream, almost every table will have one. Be sure to check out the classic flavours like Roasted Pistachio and Dark Chocolate Ferrero. Though I tend to lean towards flavours like Earl Grey Lavender or Sea Salt Gula Melaka 😂 • Sunday Folks Address: 44 Jalan Merah Saga, Unit 01-52, Chip Bee Gardens, Singapore 278116 #sundayfolks #teampixel #cassxteampixel

Single waffle stack [$10.70] . . Along with your choice of softserve, each single waffle stack also comes with a piece of freshly baked Belgian waffle square, along with pre-customized toppings according to your flavour of softserve chosen. Thanks to @burpple ‘s Burpple Beyond, I managed to enjoy an exclusive 1 for 1 promotion for this! ✌🏻 The flavours that I had chosen were Earl Grey lavender and Dark chocolate Ferrero. Personally prefer the former (as featured in the first picture here), which comes with sliced strawberries and almond thins. The Earl Grey Lavender softserve bears a distinct, lingering floral aroma that was a delight to the palate, stealing the limelight from the citrusy, tannic hues of earl grey. Texture was also smooth, creamy and a melt-in-the mouth kind. The Dark Chocolate Ferrero, on the other hand, wasn’t dark enough for my liking, pretty much sweet for a dark chocolate (perhaps because it’s only 55% cacao too). Somehow or rather this flavour reminded me of Nutella instead! 😅 Along with roasted marshmallows, this flavour also comes with crushed nuts and chocolate sauce drizzled and garnished atop. Moving on to the Belgian waffles that was (and still a hit) among most customers, I am sad to admit that standards have dropped since then. The texture could have been crispier on the exterior, and the interior of the batter lacks the characteristic lingering buttery fragrance. Prices have increased, but standards have dropped to a mediocre one that I wouldn’t wish to spend my money on, if not for the promotion. Nevertheless, softserve is still great here that I wouldn’t mind having it often . . . . #burpple #burpplebeyond #sundayfolks

Wide Variety of Choices, Lacking True Stars Appealing concept of being able to order from four concept kitchens all while seated at one dining area, accompanied by very earnest and polite servers. Unfortunately the food is a bit flat, with most dishes in 6/10 or 7/10 territory without being spectacular. Better dishes include the Entrecote Steak ($34.90++), done to a perfect medium rare and served with glistening golden fries; however the popular secret sauce was much too tart and insufficiently umami to really carry the dish properly. Aguacate and Queso Tartine ($15++) was tasty but could really have done with a lot more cheese at that price point, for what is essentially two small slices of avocado toast. The combined menu is a bit lacking in character despite the sheer number of dishes available (is there really such a need to have so many variations on bread?), only really anchored by the Entrecote Steak and not much else. Am left wondering if the experience would be improved if the popular favourites from Sabio (White Wine Scallops) and Ange Cafe (Savoury Choux) or the like were made available on the combined menu.

Mushroom Truffle Pasta We also got the mushroom truffle pasta, which was again, plated so, so beautifully. I didn’t really enjoy the pasta itself though, sadly. While it did have a distinct truffle taste and the pasta was cooked al dente, the pasta sauce on a whole tasted slightly sour, like they had added lemon. I appreciate that may be to cut the “jelak”ness of the cream pasta, but it felt a bit incompatible to me. The tiny cubes of water chestnuts were an interesting edition, but with small cubes of tofu as well, the attempted fusion dish was confusing and I was not very satisfied. I’d say definitely go for their beef burgers here instead!

B Burger ($20) Tried their B burger, consisting of a beautifully dry-aged beef patty with caramelised onions, cheese, and lovely, crispy fries (crispier than Macs!) It looks magnificent and tasted pretty good, although I do feel like our patty was a tad bit overcooked and our fries were not salted very evenly. But these are minor things they can improve on since the quality is definitely there! Moreover, managed to get it at half the price thanks to Burpple Beyond’s 1 for 1 promotion, which made it all the tastier :) Also, their service staff was also really friendly and asked us how Burpple Beyond worked so I taught her how to use it and she said to come back 3 more times to use up the other 3 1-for-1s :”)

Chili Crab Pasta ($17.90) And Beef Suki Rice Bowl ($17.90)!!! 1 For 1 With Burpple Beyond!!😍 Y’know how cafes usually serve “chili crab pasta” as just pasta whipped up with a bit of chili? Well, you won’t get any of that substandard stuff here; their al dente noodles are bathed in an abundance of chili crab sauce that is loaded with shredded eggs and comprise a perfect balance of sweet and savory - an orthodox flavor that guarantees this dish’s status as a crowd pleaser. Contrary to its appearance, the soft shell crab - though browned more than usual - was actually just lightly battered, allowing the crab to steal the spotlight! The Beef Suki Rice Bowl was what you’d expect - nicely seared beef slices at medium doneness coupled with a jiggly sous vide egg. Though carrying the right amount of char in its flavour, the beef did feel a little tough on the outside - possibly due to a flat iron steak being used. Their signature homemade sauce was delish though, and added some oomph to the bed of rice!!😋

Great Spot For Brunch, Remember To Make Reservations!! Pork Katsu Toast ($17.90) And Eggs Benedict ($17.90) But 1-for-1 With Burpple Beyond!!😍 Can’t believe I’ve never set foot in this old skool kool cafe despite how my house is within walking distance?! And I have admittedly been missing out! Unlike other indie cafes that are usually found clustered in a cramped fashion, Wheeler’s Yard occupies an entire warehouse’s worth of space and is - simply put - unbelievably cavernous. Decked out in bicycles (yep, think whole bicycles hanging from walls, standing on tables) and biking related gear, the whole grungy aesthetic exudes chill vibes that one naturally settles into, creating the perfect spot for a laidback brunch. We got ourselves the Pork Katsu Toast and a quintessential brunch item, Eggs Benedict!! As always, hallelujah to the existence of #burpplebeyond with which we got da 1-for-1!!!😚 The former is a unique take on traditional toast; more of an open sandwich, the fluffy white bread base surprisingly managed to hold its own beneath two cripsy patties of pork that were breaded with panko and drizzled generously with tonkatsu sauce...and then topped with a runny egg & bonito flakes. Each bite was so so umami!!!😍 and if it ain’t enough, you can mop up the extra tonkatsu sauce that the servers have kindly spread along the plate!!! The eggs benny was nothing to shout about, but I did like how the hollandaise was unusually lemony and citrusy. But definitely, get the tonkatsu toast if you’re here!!

Gone cycling (and eating). Thanks to #burpplebeyond for the 1 for 1 deal, we finally could dine here! The ambience and setting of the place was quite interesting, with a bike shop yard and glasshouse aircon cafe tgt. But the food was kind of average. The roasted chicken would have been better with more marination. And it wasn't a good complement to the waffles (which tasted really normal, like the kind I used to cook at home haha). The bacon egg Japanese rice was alright! (It comes with bacon bites instead of normal pork slices). With the 1 for 1 offer, it was only $20.90 nett for both dishes! 🤑 #burpple #burpplesg #tybinnovena

Berry-Licious Pancake ($16.90) Located at Novena Regency, this pancake place is a nice, quaint getaway from the hustle and bustle of the Novena area. The dish is very instagram worthy, served with whipped cream and a scoop of vanilla ice cream and 3 pancakes. The portion is relatively big, and can be shared between 2 people! For pancake lovers who enjoy fluffy pancakes, this may be a bit of disappointment because these were a little hard alone, but alright when paired with the ice cream and cream. Nonetheless, a good place to chill on a weekday!

Annou Imo(sweet potato) Pancakes [$15++] A seasonal special that’s only available for a limited time, this stack of 3 pancakes is topped with annou imo sweet potato cream, thinly sliced sweet potato, fresh cream and topped with a scoop of Miyazaki milk ice cream (that’s only available while stocks last too!). Although the photo doesn’t do justice here (as the scoop of milk ice cream slided down immediately after it was served to me 😓), I did enjoy the smooth, creamy, and purée-like sweet potato cream that’s naturally sweetened, with no added sugar. It was certainly a great complement to the signature whole grain pancakes which isn’t the usual soft and fluffy kind but leaning towards the dense and cake-y side, with a wheat-like flavour in its batter. It would have great if the ice cream didn’t melt that fast as it had became a ‘sauce’ by the time I consumed the pancakes hence I wasn’t really able to provide my verdict on it. That being said, the pancakes got a tad dry for the mouthfeel towards the end, which unfortunately no maple syrup or any other condiments was provided to curb this sensation. Perhaps providing a bigger scoop of ice cream or more of the sweet potato custard sauce might help? 🤔 . . . . #burpple #smitteneats #smittenchoice

Lava Set & Drink It was my first encounter with lava cookies, and just nicely KOOKS Creamery was a participating restaurant with Burpple Beyond. With the Lava Set & Drink combination (S$13.00) under the offer, I could get two sets of this dessert to be shared with my dinner date. So I got for myself the Matcha Lava Set with Black Sesame ice cream and a Strawberry Sundae fruit tea. Well, the thrill of watching the ice cream pressed on to the cookie, bursting the Matcha lava, was actually the highest point of the visit. Maybe my choice of ice cream was not too exciting, and as a result the sweets turned out pretty flat, with little surprise and lacking that distinct black sesame and matcha notes. But, thankfully there was the Strawberry Sundae tea, which became the lifesaver to this meal. The pairing had in fact accentuated the feel of eating a nice dessert, so I still managed to leave the place with less disappointment. Coming back for more lava cookie and ice cream was an option, but yet a slightly weak one too. #BurppleBeyond

Blue Chai Hokkaido Milk Ice Cream on Molten Chocolate Lava Cookie ($9.50) I was so intrigued by this mysteriously beautiful blue ice cream which emits elegant tea fragrance. 😚 Made from butterfly pea flower tea and hokkaido milk, the smooth ice cream has a great balance of milkiness and tea flavours. Watching it gradually melting on an erupted molten chocolate lava cookie is literal #foodporn. 😋 Lucky me cos' I used #BurppleBeyond to enjoy #1for1 deal for this delectable dessert! 😉

We Couldn’t Wait To Rush Over For Their 1-for-1 Pasta & Tea Sets The moment we knew Ninja Bowl was available on #BurppleBeyond, a group of us made a beeline there for lunch. Shown above is one of the two sets we ordered - the Mushroom Truffle and Niku Ragu linguine (usual price: $14+ each) along with a cup of tea (usual price: $7+ for one). They offer 4 types and we chose the Earl Grey and Honey Yuzu which were lovely. The pastas got our immediate thumbs-up. Although cooked to a perfect al dente, they aren’t done in classic Italian style but modified to better suit local palates with a fusion twist. And without a doubt, hit the sweet spot they did. Whether you’re vegetarian or not, I think the Mushroom Truffle is a great choice. It’s very tasty with plenty of garlic and plump, juicy mushrooms that are infused with an irresistible smokiness. The Niku Ragu is a touch sweetish and a little richer. Adding an onsen egg for customers to stir in with the finely minced beef bolognaise braised in Japanese curry is just brilliant. Since we used #BurppleBeyond’s 1-for-1 deal, we ended up saving a pretty bundle.

Yuzu raspberry [$9+] . . Usually not a fan of fruit based desserts, but this caught me by pleasant surprise, which I decided to give it a try after consistent recommendation from @kiwimii_! ✨ Being a fan of Yuzu, I love how the characteristic citrusy flavour was distinct here in the layers of soft, creamy meringue mousse despite the presence of tangy, sour raspberries embedded within. The vanilla soufflé sponge was soft, cotton-like and fluffy, a fragile texture that resulted in an aftermath of.... (swipe to view🙈). Adorned with an exterior coating of smooth Raspberry Valrhona Ivoire Whipped Ganache (raspberry flavoured white chocolate creamy and garnished with white chocolate flakes that added a pleasant crisp mouthfeel, I love how this cake is light to the palate, with a tangy, citrusy note that’s refreshing for an after-meal treat! Never knew that yuzu and raspberry can be such a great combination! 💛💖 . . . . #burpple #nesutosg

Noisette Rocher ($10.50) This dome-shaped dark ganache houses an almond dacquoise and a hazelnut feuilletine – two layers of crunchy, nutty goodness, with just a scintilla of sweet. A dollop of hazelnut praline mousse sits atop the cake like its crowning glory, spiking the chocolate exterior with more velvety nuttiness. My only misgiving is located in the strong imbalance of flavours: I found it a pity that the surfeit of nuts ultimately obscured the chocolate, but it is, after all, a rocher cake! So if nuts are your thing, you’re in for a real treat. 🏅 9/10 💭 Must try

Late Tea, Yuzu Raspberry Cake With Latte. A slice of yuzu raspberry cake ($9) the white layers are filled with melt in your mouth and filled with yuzu, the sponge layers soft and moist with layers of raspberry jam is tart and comes together. The icing cream layer a soft pink with a nice raspberry after taste that gives it a fruity perfume like taste. Overall the taste comes together very nicely. Latte ($5.50) is good without sugar and goes well with the cake, the roast of the beans is average. The place nice, cozy and quiet with awarm lighting and a welcoming vibe. A great place to relax and get away.

Finally here at Firebake! 😍 This is my most anticipated place from Burpple Beyond’s list with 1-for-1 offers! Though the offer is applicable to mains only 😁 The mussels in white wine and herbs were unexpectedly small, which made eating them rather tiring 😅 Good thing it comes with some awesome sourdough bread to soak up the broth 😋 The Australian prawn capellini aglio olio with sakura ebi is good, but our favourite is actually the grilled cabbage with anchovy butter 🤣 Gotta return for their brunch items next time! #firebake #firebakesg #burpple #burpplesg #burpplebeyond

Danish: Organic Sourdough Rye ($6.50/$12) What to expect: hard crust bread with a chewy and acetic texture, speckled with linseed and sunflower seed. Mostly enjoyable, but the tartness was obtrusive and perhaps taken a little too far: the best sourdough should be infused with only the subtlest notes of tanginess. I recommend taking a slice or two before your mains are served, to whet your appetite. 🏅 8/10 💭 Can try

50-50 Excited that firebake was on burpple beyond so had to try it out after all the hype! Was sadly very disappointed by the mussels, they were puny in size, though they gave a lot of mussels to make up for it, the teeny tiny mussels were just not worth the effort to pluck out and eat as there was barely any meat. I would have preferred that they removed it from the menu due to not being able to get good quality produce. Sadly the risotto came with even MORE tiny mussels (not the usual 2 prawns that I saw in pictures) and the solo prawn was not good as well. The risotto was okay and the beef was also passable. Had high hopes for the hyped firebake mains but stick to brunch instead when heading there! Would not have dinner here again.
