Longan Osmanthus Pu-erh This drink is also on the lighter side. Mildly sweet, herbally taste with bits of osmanthus jelly within.

Grapefruit Thyme Strawberry Green Tea Light and refreshing drink! I liked that it was not too sweet and with a slight bitter aftertaste from the grapefruit! Could not really taste the strawberry though. ⁣⁣

(From left) The Original, Smoked Duck, Momo Curry, Fried Pierogi How can we miss the dumplings when we are at Dumpling Darlings? Together with each lunch set comes with a side of 4 pcs dumplings. There were 4 of us, 4 lunch sets, 4 pcs of dumplings so obviously we ordered 4 different flavours! ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Here we have: (From the left) ✅The Original As the name states, tasted just like a regular gyoza. Taste is decent but nothing much to wow about. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ✅ Smoked Duck Each dumpling was filled with chunks of duck meat, which were indeed on the saltier side but the hint of sourness from the balsamic vinaigrette provided a perfect balance to the dish. ⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ ✅ Momo Curry Filled with minced pork collar, curry spice and charred cauliflower. The prominent curry spices came through really well but I liked more was the labneh that comes along with the dumplings. It gives a refreshing flavour to the dish, which cuts the richness of the curry. Not bad! ✅ Fried Pierogi Deep fried dumpling filled with smoked bacon, truffle potato and cheddar. Served on a sriracha crema. This is one unique dumpling! Definitely never had a dumpling with such rich flavours before. The taste is fine but it can be quite jelak to finish a whole plate on your own. Luckily we only had one each.

Tie Guan Yin with Coffee Popcorn I’m not at all a coffee person, but this collaboration flavour between Tom’s and Parchmen & Co had a well handled balance! I liked how they retained the natural bitterness of the tie guan yin and didn’t overwhelm it with sweetness. The white chocolate and hand ground coffee beans coated popcorns gave a contrast texture and flavour. This anniversary flavour is available on 20th and 21st September, as part of Tom’s 14th Anniversary celebration - they’ll also be serving up other brand new flavours and returning fan favourites through the month. Thank you @tomspalettesg for having us and @burpple for the kind invite! ✨

Vanilla with Oolong and Rose Jelly A special collaboration flavour with Gong Cha - vanilla made with Madagascar vanilla beans, topped with oolong tea sauce and konnyaku rose jelly! The scoop was fragrant with a good amount of sweetness. Was fun to have with the chewy bits of konnyaku too. This anniversary flavour is available on 13th and 14th September, as part of Tom’s 14th Anniversary celebration - they’ll also be serving up other brand new flavours and returning fan favourites through the month. Mao Shan Wang We were super lucky to get to try the very limited batch of Mao Shan Wang that the Tom’s Palette crew worked really hard in making!! It was freshly churned to lock in as much of the durians’ natural flavour, and that really shone through the final product. Absolutely loved the richness and its creamy texture! Thank you @tomspalettesg for having us and @burpple for the kind invite! ✨

Great Noodles Had the ebiko prawn w small flat noodles — the noodles are made fresh, and the tomato soup was tasty. Looks as great as it tastes. The egg was made to perfection. Used 1-for-1 here, $13.90 for two bowls.

Noodles and Side Dishes Popped by Eventasty at the newly opened Funan Mall as there is a one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond:) You can choose from 5 types of noodles of varying thickness. The Braised Wagyu Beef Noodles in Signature Tomato Soup Base ($15.90) features Wagyu beef cubes and lava egg in a sweet and tangy bowl of tomato soup. I chose normal noodles which was too soft for my liking, but I learnt that you can request for the noodles to be harder when you place your order. I like that the soup is quite rich and flavourful and the Wagyu beef is very soft. I also tried Vinaigrette Ebiko Prawn Paste Dry Noodle in Mushroom Sauce ($11.90) which is very fragrant and delicious, especially with a dash of fried chilli sauce for an extra oomph. I chose the thickest flat noodles and requested for it to be harder, which turned out perfect as there was good bite to the noodles. The prawn balls are fresh and bouncy. You can also add $3.20 to complete your meal with a side and a drink. The Tofu with Century Egg is tossed in a very fragrant chili sauce, while the Marinated Beef Shank with Shredded Cabbage is very flavourful. Overall, the noodle dishes are quite enjoyable (I like that you can customise the texture of the noodles to your liking) and side dishes are surprisingly good.

For 1-for-1 Main Dish (save ~$14.90) Put this Halal joint on your to-go list for hand-pulled la mian in Funan Mall. Order the Vinaigrette Ebiko Prawn Paste Noodle ($13.90), which sees bouncy ebiko prawn paste and a lava egg in a thick, tomato-based broth. For something lighter, the clear Braised Wagyu Beef Noodle ($13.90) with tender beef slices should fit the bill. Pro-tip: The la mian is on a softer side here, so request for it to be less done if you prefer your noodz chewy! Photo by Burppler Yan Fang Lim

Beef (Dry-Aged, Slow Roasted) Finally had some time for a longer lunch, and decided to head to The Carvery to try the meat buffet. The beef and lamb was fabulous! They even had different types of sea salt that would go with the meats - charcoal, red lava sea salt, mixed spices sea salt. Personally, I liked the mixed spices sea salt the best - it went very well with the beef and gave it more texture and flavour. The service staff were prompt and alert to ensure my water was topped up; they took the time to speak with me - asking if I’ve tried their carving station and even explained how that they dry-aged their beef for approximately 2 weeks before they slow roast it, then roast it in their charcoal oven. In addition, they had 2 types of goat cheeses, which is rare for any restaurants or buffets. It may not be everyone’s top choice but I loved it So thumbs up on this! Their pork knuckle is usually for dinners; and on weekends, they would have 2 different types of beef available. This probably explains the difference in the buffet price. A buffet for the meat lovers!

They were not kidding when they said that their rotasserie chicken is their specialty. The meat was really tender and juicy, and didn't need any sauce to go with it. Rather than the variety, their quantity do shine for certain dishes such as their wood fire pizzas and bread pudding. Worth it if you get the 1 for 1 @chopesg voucher for about $50!

A coffee experience at Narrative Located in a cosy little corner of Bras Basah Complex, hidden among a row of bookstores, Narrative serves up a number of cakes and specialty coffee. I came to check out their filter coffee ($6) before an appointment. During my visit, the filter coffees on rotation were sourced from scandinavian roasters, with a roast coming from the renowned Coffee Collective of Denmark and two roasts from Koppi roasters of Sweden. I opted for the Kenyan Single Origin from roasted by Koppi, which was brewed with finesse by the barista (whose name I didn’t manage to catch) and delivered a full mouthfeel with flavour notes of plums and raisins. What’s worthy of noting is that the brewers at Narrative use the Clever coffee dripper, allowing them to switch between immersion and drip brewing. This makes the coffee more complex and layered, developing a body while retaining the fruity, nuanced flavours. The service was great, and the ambience of the place was nice and minimalist. You could see the love the brewers have for the coffee as you watch them brew your coffee. Their precision and attention to detail about the time of extraction reflects the amount of TLC they put into each cup, and I highly recommend paying them a visit. I’ll be back soon to try out other coffees and their cakes!

Chili Crab Pasta ($18) Fettuccine was a little soft but still had a decent bite and sauce was nice (slightly tangy, a little spicy and pretty eggy)! 🤤🤤 Chili crab came in a pretty generous piece but was not as crispy as I expected. Everything tied in pretty nicely and definitely a satisfying pasta, especially at this price point and with Burpple Beyond 👍🏻👍🏻

Honey BBQ Babyback Ribs ($20) Quite impressed by the portion?? At just $20, there were about 8 pieces of ribs and the ribs were actually better than decent 👍🏻👍🏻 Nicely glazed with a good amount of sweet honey BBQ sauce, the ribs were pretty decent - not too dry though not fall off the bone tender. Thai-inspired salad wasn’t anything special - the lotus root lost its crisp and wasn’t that flavourful, and the salad dressing was slightly lacking. Definitely a worthy meal (especially with Burpple Beyond) and since babyback ribs tend to be priced higher despite the smaller size but higher fatty content. Do try before the burpple vouchers expire this month in September! 😋😋
