A Mala That Triumphs All Some MLXGs disappoint, for some half the journey is too much to bear. Fat Bird has a MLXG that doesn’t give up on you. It’s the perfect amount of spice and numbness, and additional flavouring (not sure where that comes from) which is unique as most MLXGs lacks in different areas, especially the flavour when it all boils down to it, literally.
Chicken Stew With Pig’s Stomach Was looking forward to dinner here but was completely disappointed with the quality of ALL dishes served to my table. It began with... 1. Hotpot Chicken Stew with Pig’s Stomach 豬肚湯 Tased bland and diluted, even after ordering condiments like tofu, mushrooms, vegetables, beef (wasnt ribeye as stated in the menu) and pork slices. Was much less herb-y than when I last visited 9 months ago. 2. Salted Egg Squid Flavour just was not right, entire dish tasted like breaded fried squid and nothing more. 3. Salted Egg Fish Skin Even though the fish skin was crispy, the salted egg flavour just did not hit the spot. 4. Tomato Fried Eggs Average, considered the best among the other dishes that was presented Was on a buffet meal, but the lacklustre dishes was so disheartening that I refrained from ordering more. Will not patronise again.
Mala Chicken Pot Hubby ordered medium spicy, and most of us couldn’t take it. U can request to add some water/stock as it might get salty after boiling for some time. Overall is yummy, and definitely worthy with Burpple beyond. Will b back again.

Steamboat Buffet [$28.80++/pax on Weekends and PHs] Walked up and down Liang Seah street, aka steamboat street now 😂, before finally settling with this place! They have an ala carte option as well but we went for the standard 90 minutes buffet (they’re quite strict during peak hours). If I didn’t remember wrongly, the premium buffet is around $32++, but it looks more worth if you take beef - we saw many tables ordering plates and plates of them! The trio soup base is an additional $8 top up per table with their mushroom base as a default. We went for tomato and ma la for the other two. They have a good range of veg, seafood, etc. that is available for you to take, while their fish and meats are prepared on order. Ingredients were all pretty fresh I must say! Ma la broth was drinkable and the mushroom base was comforting. Overall it’s affordable for its variety plus free flow drinks and ice cream, but it got really stuffy after awhile. Ventilation inside is not the best, it might be cooler sitting outside if you’re coming for dinner! Weekdays’ pricing per pax is $25.80++.

Premium Buffet Took the premium buffet, totally worth it! Service is good! Look at this portion for 2 pax only! And it’s buffet!

Steamboat Buffet Rein by their signature mushroom soup base, they have both ala carte and buffet options. In exact, 2 kind of buffet options - the normal one and the premium one which includes additional items like wagyu, black pork, scallops etc. For the usual normal selection, it has a decent variety of pork belly, beef belly, pork shoulder, tender beef slices, fish slices, handmade balls, mushrooms and veggies etc. All their ingredients are fresh and timely replenished. Among all the soup stocks, I still personally like the mushroom one, it’s light and flavorful. While the mala base is kind of fragrant but lack the oomph while the herbal soup is easily sweetened up with all the ingredients added into it. Quite worth the buck I would say! But it gets really crowded! So there’s a time limit during peak period and to avoid the queue remember to make a reservation!

Too mochi (much) food... but not too shabu (shabby)... . . Went and did it again. Solo buffet lunch because I had a $10 voucher to spare which was expiring soon. Paid $7.50 for this huge buffet meal which could have fed at least 4 people perhaps. The dessert selection was awesome. Especially loved the peanut mochi which I tried pairing with the matcha soft serve, and boy was it good. Swipe to the last few photos to look at my dessert "creation". Now, its food coma time. Oh, the lady at the table beside me told me that she wished she had my appetite because I sure ate my worth 😂
Don't Play With Food
located at far end of Singapore, gosh haven’t been here for a decade i think. Found a gem here- Shabu Ichi has affordable hotpot buffet at $28 nett per person on a weekend. I personally prefer this to Shabu sai. Only down side is seafood is not included in the buffet selection, add ons available. Their ginseng tonkutsu broth was good and what i love most there was the peanut mochi lol!
Shabu Ichi Hokkaido Hotpot Shabu Ichi carries a range of soup ranging from Flavorful Truffle Tonkotsu, Nourishing Collagen Paitan, Healthy Hakodate Shio Konbu, Revitalizing Ginseng Tonkotsu, Savoury Hokkaido Miso Butter and Zesty Spicy Saikyo Miso. The buffet includes free flow meat (Beef, Chicken & Pork), vegetables, assorted mushrooms, fishball and noodles. They also have a dessert station with chocolate fondue and Hokkaido milk soft serve. Premium seafood such as prawn, mussels, scallop, snow crab legs and wagyu beef are charged ala-carte and not included in the buffet. We tried Truffle Tonkotsu and Collagen Paitan. I quite like the truffle tonkotsu with a nice yet not overpowering aroma while collagen paitan taste plain. Overall, I find this meal value for money with prices for adult starting from $18.90++ for 60mins weekday lunch and $20.90++ for 90mins all day lunch/dinner. The queue and waitlist gets really long during peak hour. It’s best to head down earlier or make a reservation beforehand. 📍 Shabu-Ichi (Jurong Point) 1 Jurong West Central 2, #B1-47, S648886

Cheapest BBQ and Steamboat Buffet? At $12.90++ for students and senior citizens on weekdays lunch, this is definitely one of the cheapest deal I can get to fill my stomach at a wallet-friendly price. However, do note that the price is only valid for BBQ; having a hotpot requires a top-up of $12 (max 4 pax to 1 hotpot). There's the usual selection of Korean-styled marinated meats and cooked food, and a cooler of typical steamboat ingredients like tofu and meatballs. What is more special about this place is the DIY sauce bar like HDL's, a toaster where you can heat up tortilla wraps to go with your BBQ meats, a choice to top up $3 for a bowl of cheese, and other top-up options for mookata and premium selection of other meats. So... if you're in for something better then the food may not be affordable afterall 😂 Nonetheless, for that price, I must say that the marinated meats were tasty and the service was warm. But the steamboat was typical and nothing to rave about.
