Did you know that there’s a hand-pulled noodles that opened recently in the revamped Funan Mall? With three soup bases to choose from, signature tomato soup base, beef bone soup base and mushroom sauce, I opted for something light and tangy this time round and their tomato soup contains 7 tomatoes cooked in a single bowl of soup. With a variety of different ingredients to go with your soup noodle, I got the Ebiko Prawn Paste ($13.90) and it was a fantastic choice. The thick and flavourful tomato soup was reminiscent of a certain of hotpot chain’s broth while the hand-pulled noodles with a certain bite to it, is the perfect complement for noodle slurping. The addition of the ebiko prawn paste and half an onsen egg rounds of the dining experience. What’s more, if you are a Burpple Beyond member, you get to enjoy a 1-for-1 for certain noodle dishes such as this. • For all the positives the food brings, the customer service leaves much to be desired on this day. Everything was fine until I was about to make the payment, while my dining partner was still sitting at the table finishing her drink, that the wait staff immediately ushered in a group of customers to our table when my backpack was still on my chair. Maybe practice a bit of patience might help? •••••••••••••••••••• 📍EVENTASTY 一碗田 Noodle Bar 109 North Bridge Rd, Unit 01-13 Funan Mall, Singapore 179097

Ebiko Prawn Ball With Tomato Base Noodles Heard so much about this eatery with handmade noodles at an adorable price and I was pleased to find out that there is even a burpple deal. I love how they used actual tomatoes for the soup base and you can feel those small tomato bits that complemented the springy noodles. The ebiko balls too were well made and I would love to come back to try the rest of their soup base.

Noodles with fish in hot and sour soup Tried the noodles with fish in hot and sour soup. The colour looked really odd but it turned out to be really good! This is on the seasonal menu. We got the sets were you get to add a side and a drink. This place is on Burpple Beyond if you would like to try their noodles at one for one too! I was so hungry and got the sets before asking what was included for the deals 😅

Wan He Lou @wanhelou is mostly known for its value-for-money delicious lobster porridge. But apart from that, we highly recommend that you order their signature honey kurobuta pork chops and salted egg lotus root chips! It will surely be a feast that will put you in a long food coma haha but totally worth it! The salted egg lotus root chips are superrrr addictive!! We think it’s actually more satisfying than salted egg fish skins! Ok on the flip side, we do think the portions are better suited for 3 people. Sorry la we don’t know how to eat in moderation and have portion control issues okay.

For Comforting Lobster Porridge and More Make a mental note of this spot for casual group dinners in Jalan Besar. Raved about by many is their umami-licious Teochew-style Lobster Porridge ($29.90 for 2 halves, $55 per lobster). Unless you're really craving a lobster feast, the $29.90 option will satisfy. Add on the tender and chewy Pan Fried Kurobuta Pork (from $14.90) coated in an addictive sweet sauce, and get your snack on with their Crispy Lotus Root With Salted Egg ($11.90) for crunchy deep fried renkon chips drizzled in a creamy salted egg yolk sauce. Kurobuta Pork When this plate of Kurobuta Pork (S) was served, it left our jaws dropping! The portion looked so fine (in other words, pathetic)! BUT, IT TASTED SO GOOD! The red meat is tender yet has a bite to it. It has that wok hei/grilled aroma. Pieces of really well cooked meat that sent pleasures to my palate. The honey chicken drumlets were yummy too but the sweetness was cloying. Do try their Salted Egg Yolk (SEY) Lotus Chips! Every slice is evenly coated with that slightly creamy yet sandy SEY! Perfect for beer pairing. Wan He Lou's signature is actually their lobster porridge! The lobster is about 700g (as advised by the staff) and is served in a huge pot of broth. The porridge + broth is good for sharing among 4 pax! The soup isn't overwhelming with the sweetness of the crustacean. It certainly didnt blow me away but I found myself getting 3 bowls of it! Addictive! The texture of the broth with rice was pretty one dimensional. Perhaps they could top it off with some rice crisps.. Both meat were ordered in small sizes, except the SEY Lotus Chips that was in medium. We also got a small plate of stir fried long beans. Together with 1 lobster porridge and using Beyond's 1 for 1 (for the meat dishes), the bill came up to about $120. Not the cheapest for zichar but hey, you get atas food like lobster and kurobuta pork! Also, the place is airconditioned (gst &svc charge applies).

My favourite dish of the night goes to the Signature Smoked Black Cod. A mood-lifting, smoked black cod that put a smile on me. Nicely sliced black cod in thin batter tossed with just enough sweetness from the tantalizing sauce. Left with a nice scent of the apple wood lingering in my mouth. . Love duck? You’re in luck! With a layer of glossy glaze, tasty crisp skin and succulent flesh, these ducks were up to Mott 32’s quality standard. Backed by sourcing the perfect Malaysian duck to 48-hour preparation and applewood roasted for 42 day aging in a special marinade. There are few ways to enjoy the duck. My favourite is to indulge the crisp skin with some raw cane sugar dip, allowing the fats under the skin melt in the mouth. Alternatively, cushion your Peking duck with some slices of crunchy cucumber, scallions, hoisin sauce and a touch of the magical sesame and peanut sauce in a freshly steamed pancake. Available in limited quality so be sure to make a 24-hour advance reservation to avoid disappointment! Apple Wood Roasted 42 Days Peking Duck “Signature Mott 32 Cut” at S$108. . Along the stretch of Jalan Besar, there seems to be a few dim sum restaurants, a notable few that are always crowded with people such as Swee Choon, and the new kid in the list is Sum Dim Sum. You would have probably noticed upon stepping into the restaurant that most tables would have an order of their Signature Crispy Pork Bun ($6) and this is something that you absolutely cannot miss out on. Made famous by Tim Ho Wan, this bao version is not steamed but instead the bun, containing the BBQ pork, is baked. The difference at Sum Dim Sum is that they have added pandan extract onto the bun to give it a green hue. This additional touch gives it a nice fragrance from the pandan while the buttery and crispy exterior gives it the x-factor from the traditional steamed buns. The filling of char siew plays a major role in the entire dish, as it is neither too sweet nor fatty, which makes you want to eat more without feeling surfeited. •••••••••••••••••••• 📍Sum Dim Sum 161 Jalan Besar, Singapore 208876

'A lot Beef Burger' ($4) (Yes, that's the English name on their menu) The pastry seemed like that of a thick crispy roti prata, but less oily. There was comparatively less beef compared to the store next door but it was definitely bigger. As usual, it was satisfying on its own and more so with the soup. Special Sauce Beef Noodles ($11.90) The difference between this and the signature beef noodle would simply be the beef. Drenching the beef in a 'special sauce' that had notes of peanut and was overall very umami, it was piled high onto a tray of its own, hence the higher price. On their menu, it's shown that 'premium beef shin' is used but I can't quite comment on the difference in beef quality between the 2 bowls. Meanwhile, '15-spice blend soup' is also stated beside the dish and it probably refers to the sauce that the beef is immersed in as if it's for the soup, I can confirm that it's exactly the same as the one found in their Signature Beef Noodles. Signature Beef Noodles ($7.90) Hunting down the last of the Chinese restaurants in Grantral Mall, we filled our bellies with some hearty bowls of beef noodles. For first timers, you'll be recommended by the staff to stick to their Signature Beef Noodles which isn't a bad idea. Offering 6 different types of noodles, we tried both the 'normal' and 'flat'. The flat noodles easily won me over here as they were firm, provided a nice bite and allowed plenty of soup to cling to its huge surface area. Located in the same mall as at least 2 other Chinese restaurants, Grantral Mall has come to become quite a safe bet to satisfy one's Chinese cuisine cravings (And work out a sweat) in the West of Singapore. Signature Beef Noodles ($7.90) The broth was clear and light. While enjoyable, it's definitely not one of those rich beefy broths you may find in popular beef noodle joints in Taiwan. To give it an even more robust flavour, feel free to add unlimited amounts of vinegar and chili paste at the side.
