Noodles and Side Dishes Popped by Eventasty at the newly opened Funan Mall as there is a one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond:) You can choose from 5 types of noodles of varying thickness. The Braised Wagyu Beef Noodles in Signature Tomato Soup Base ($15.90) features Wagyu beef cubes and lava egg in a sweet and tangy bowl of tomato soup. I chose normal noodles which was too soft for my liking, but I learnt that you can request for the noodles to be harder when you place your order. I like that the soup is quite rich and flavourful and the Wagyu beef is very soft. I also tried Vinaigrette Ebiko Prawn Paste Dry Noodle in Mushroom Sauce ($11.90) which is very fragrant and delicious, especially with a dash of fried chilli sauce for an extra oomph. I chose the thickest flat noodles and requested for it to be harder, which turned out perfect as there was good bite to the noodles. The prawn balls are fresh and bouncy. You can also add $3.20 to complete your meal with a side and a drink. The Tofu with Century Egg is tossed in a very fragrant chili sauce, while the Marinated Beef Shank with Shredded Cabbage is very flavourful. Overall, the noodle dishes are quite enjoyable (I like that you can customise the texture of the noodles to your liking) and side dishes are surprisingly good.

For 1-for-1 Main Dish (save ~$14.90) Put this Halal joint on your to-go list for hand-pulled la mian in Funan Mall. Order the Vinaigrette Ebiko Prawn Paste Noodle ($13.90), which sees bouncy ebiko prawn paste and a lava egg in a thick, tomato-based broth. For something lighter, the clear Braised Wagyu Beef Noodle ($13.90) with tender beef slices should fit the bill. Pro-tip: The la mian is on a softer side here, so request for it to be less done if you prefer your noodz chewy! Photo by Burppler Yan Fang Lim

Deep Fried Prawns With Laksa Leaf And Pesto Sauce ($15) Have you ever thought of what can happen when east meets west? This deep fried prawns had us all wow-ed by the magical use of laksa leaf in the pesto sauce that was nicely coated on the outside. Might seem overly herbaceous with all the greens, but the overall flavour was balanced and fresh. Can’t deny the usage of herbs helped to lift the overall taste of the dish. Strawberries and figs added a fruity sweetness to the dish that surprised us even further.

Steamed Scottish Razor Clam in Korean Black Garlic ($12/piece) A very savoury way of cooking this seafood dish, especially with the black garlic that contributes a really strong fermented flavour to the razor clam. Salty as it might be, the black garlic also adds on a tinge of sweet, balsamic taste. The razor clam was long and juicy, but chopped into smaller pieces which can be chewed conveniently. Love the freshness!

Jumbo Lump Crab Meat ($98), Fried Mantou ($0.80/piece). Now available on regular menu. 🦀 How does a de-shelled chilli crab sound? Although it felt a little odd to not have my hands stained with the chilli crab sauce and crack the shell by myself, but it was surely of much convenience to still enjoy one of our local favourite dishes in such a clean and neat manner! Pretty sure lazy eaters would appreciate this. 😄 🦀 Sitting right in the middle of a pool of luscious tangy chilli crab sauce is the real gem itself; a tower built of such sweet, juicy crab meat. The sauce was slightly spicy, pretty flavourful and fills your mouth with a really rich texture. 🦀 Pair with their unique mantous that come in the shape of long breadsticks instead of the usual pillow-shaped ones. Still as fluffy inside and crispy outside! #burpple #burpplesg #sgfood #sgfoodies #sgigfood #sgeats #sgrestaurant #wheretoeatsg #whati8today #foodporn #sgfoodporn #instafood_sg #sgmakandiary #sgmakan #sgfooddiary #thechinesekitchen #chillicrab #厨神私房菜

Decent dim sum We had steamed char siew bao ($4.20), charcoal chicken and shrimp siew mai (~$5), shrimp and spinach dumpling (~$4) and xiaolongbao ($4.20). The skin wasn’t too thick and everything tasted good. Will be back!

In the house at Dim Sum Haus We ordered 5 dishes in total. The pan fried carrot cake with Chinese sausage was delicious and it tasted just right for us ($3.90 for 3). The mushroom dumpling ($4.50 for 3) was all right and the Xiao Long Bao ($4.20 for 3) tasted ok too. The steamed rice roll with BBQ pork was fantastic though and we enjoyed it a lot ($4.20). The baked BBQ pork pastry ($5.10 for 3) was filling too but not too heavy. We used Burpple Beyond for the steamed items (mushroom dumpling and xiao long bao).

Dim Sum Really excited to try Dim Sum Haus as I have heard many good reviews of it:) The dim sum did not disappoint! The har gau and charcoal siew mai are stuffed with big morsels of shrimp, the skin is thin and there is a good crunch to the dumplings. The pan-fried carrot cake, fried fresh beancurd skin and steamed crispy rice roll (chee cheong fun) with shrimp faired very well too - the taste and texture are on point. My favourite is steamed pork ribs with yam - the pork ribs and yam are very soft and savoury. The baked salted egg custard bun is highly raved - the exterior is crusty and a lava of sweet salted egg custard bursts out when you bite into it. It’s a little too rich for me at the end of a full meal, but this is probably a hit for fans of 流沙包. Our meal amounted to $52 for 3 pax, which is pretty reasonable even though the Burpple Beyond one-for-one discount for one dish is not much:) Do make a reservation if you are going because they are usually packed!

Wan He Lou @wanhelou is mostly known for its value-for-money delicious lobster porridge. But apart from that, we highly recommend that you order their signature honey kurobuta pork chops and salted egg lotus root chips! It will surely be a feast that will put you in a long food coma haha but totally worth it! The salted egg lotus root chips are superrrr addictive!! We think it’s actually more satisfying than salted egg fish skins! Ok on the flip side, we do think the portions are better suited for 3 people. Sorry la we don’t know how to eat in moderation and have portion control issues okay.

Kurobuta Pork When this plate of Kurobuta Pork (S) was served, it left our jaws dropping! The portion looked so fine (in other words, pathetic)! BUT, IT TASTED SO GOOD! The red meat is tender yet has a bite to it. It has that wok hei/grilled aroma. Pieces of really well cooked meat that sent pleasures to my palate. The honey chicken drumlets were yummy too but the sweetness was cloying. Do try their Salted Egg Yolk (SEY) Lotus Chips! Every slice is evenly coated with that slightly creamy yet sandy SEY! Perfect for beer pairing. Wan He Lou's signature is actually their lobster porridge! The lobster is about 700g (as advised by the staff) and is served in a huge pot of broth. The porridge + broth is good for sharing among 4 pax! The soup isn't overwhelming with the sweetness of the crustacean. It certainly didnt blow me away but I found myself getting 3 bowls of it! Addictive! The texture of the broth with rice was pretty one dimensional. Perhaps they could top it off with some rice crisps.. Both meat were ordered in small sizes, except the SEY Lotus Chips that was in medium. We also got a small plate of stir fried long beans. Together with 1 lobster porridge and using Beyond's 1 for 1 (for the meat dishes), the bill came up to about $120. Not the cheapest for zichar but hey, you get atas food like lobster and kurobuta pork! Also, the place is airconditioned (gst &svc charge applies).
