Deconstructed Lemon Cheesecake ($11++) (Part 4 of 4) Note: All prices are subjected to 10% Service Charge and 7% GST - Lemon Cream Cheese Mousse, Almond Crumble, Mixed Berry Compote The dish turned out exactly as described. Strong lemon flavour from the mousse paired very well with the sweet almond crumble topping and base. The mousse was not too thick and very refreshing as well. However, the berry compote was literally ice-cold, bit into pieces of half-frozen berries and was a tad bit too tangy. So while it worked well with the almond crumble as well, when eating all the elements together, felt that the tartness feom the berries overwhelmed the dessert. Taste: 7.5/10 (A unique dessert that is worth trying) More pictures at: https://www.instagram.com/p/B34Pm1QAiCs/?igshid=dv4scnk5m48

Cheeseburger ($26++) (Part 3 of 4) Note: All prices are subjected to 10% Service Charge and 7% GST Served medium - House blend beef patty, Glazed bacon chop, Mushrooms, BBQ sauce, Fries, Slaw The Slaw had lots of mayo which may get a bit filling/'jelat' after awhile. The fries were crispy and above average. I don't really eat fries but I didn't mind nibbling on some of these. They were not overly salted as well. The burger came with a thick and juicy beef patty but when I bit into it, it was surprisingly flat and lacked much flavour. I would say for the beef patty alone, it's below average, at least based on what I've tried thus far. The brioche bun, whilst fluffy, could have been grilled/toasted slightly longer to make it crisp on the outside. Nevertheless, the sweet and tangy BBQ sauce, really THICK cuts (think the better word would be slabs) of bacon were really good. I felt like I was eating Western-style braised pork belly/kakuni. :) Overall, it's a good burger but the main component (beef patty), was slightly lacklustre. Taste: 7/10 More pictures at: https://www.instagram.com/p/B34Pm1QAiCs/?igshid=123z2c6itjhuj

Smashed Avocado Toast ($15++) 19/10/19 (Part 2 of 4) Note: All prices are subjected to 10% Service Charge and 7% GST - Guacamole of tomatoes and corn, Poached eggs, Sourdough, Baby Radish, Furikake This was very clean tasting with creamy avocados and very well-cooked poached eggs. I particularly liked the sourdough, remaining a bit of crunch and crispiness though it had soaked up the juices from the avocados and the egg. This would probably be 1 of our favourite finds around the Amoy-Telok Ayer area, amongst the countless restaurants. Interestingly, they weren’t as packed as some others although we felt they were as good, if not better than some. We liked that their appetisers were priced reasonably and came in small portions so we could try more varied dishes. We enjoyed what we had, grilled prawn, crab croquettes and especially the grilled octopus that was on point. We picked their spiced glazed pork belly which was spectacular and yummy good, flavourful and great meat-fats proportions that was pleasant to enjoy. There were more appealing sounding items on their mains, pasta and risotto list for a sumptuous meal. Similarly for their appetisers that we liked. But we were glad we saved space for dessert as the red wine poached pear we had was really memorable to end with. We would recommend to wine and dine here after having some of their cocktails and absolutely loving them. Have a little chat with Mr Star who may concoct some special mix in your drinks if you’re not going for the wine. The interior of @mpiresingapore was chic and cosy, for a formal date or comfortable gathering. The final highlight: members of @burpplebeyond would be delighted to enjoy the incredible valuable deals here. So sharing this good find, hopefully not at the expense of being harder to get a table next time.

Seafood Risotto The tomato-based Seafood Risotto ($24) from Mpire comes with octopus, tiger prawns, mussels and crabmeat, and I must say that the taste and texture are on point. The risotto is flavourful, packed with umami and the seafood is chunky and fresh. Although the portion is not big, I’m not complaining given that there is an one-for-one deal on Burpple Beyond:) Wouldn’t mind returning to try out the other items on the menu!

Root Beer Yet another spot to get your alcoholic Root Beer fix if Bukit Batok is simply too far from you — the various types of beer, ciders and other alcoholic drinks from The Rawr Kitchen are also available at On Tap in Chinatown Complex Market. No doubt I would prefer the fizzier and fresher Root Beer served straight out from the tap at the main brewery within The Rawr Kitchen which is also nearer to me, but if that is simply just too far for eastie friends this makes for a good alternative in a location that is more central for most. PS: Check out Rudy's Snack Bar right beside On Tap for some grub such as fries, chewy fish crackers and chicken drumlets and more during evenings on Tues to Sat if you are in need of more "westernized grub" to go along with your beers; didn't have the stomach to try but definitely noticed a bunch of people who are having drinks ordering some food from them as well — the same particular stall seems to be operated under the main tenant (operating with the name reflected on the signboard) selling Chinese fare in the day.

On Tap And On Point Remember the days where you'd buy a can of root beer, cover up the word 'root' and pretend that you were drinking beer? Well, at On Tap, they just make your root beer naughty and save you the trouble of trying to front that hard. Their home brewed root beer ($6.50) tastes almost exactly like the virgin version, albeit a little less creamy. I didn't really notice any alcohol in the brew, which makes this a great, refreshing beer to start your non-beer guzzling pals on as you and your merry bunch devour your way through the dizzying array of delicious hawker food available at Chinatown Complex. #burpplecraftbeer

Good Variety of Craft Beer on Tap I missed Happy Hour, but I still enjoyed my pint of Passionfruit Wheat Ale ($14+) from Pasteur Street. Citrusy & fruity, there are hints of passionfruit & lemon, more so the former than latter so it isn't sour like a saison. A light & delicious beer that pleases the crowd, & which I would order again. Sat at the bar counter with my back turned to the world; but before I immersed myself in some me time, I looked around & found the decor to be pretty simple. With various tones of grey & silver, the style is very metallic, almost like the interior of a spaceship. One downside is that reception was pretty bad here.. I sat at the bar, not sure if it varies throughout the premises as they don't have a huge space). WiFi also isn't for public use, so I left after 1 beer. I'll probably return with a friend, or if I have offline work to do. 🍻 💳 Accepts credit cards 🌬 Air-conditioned seats only 🍽 Shopback GO partner 📶 No free WiFi 🙋🏻‍♀️ Service charge applicable 🚫 No GST

Our Tasting Platter This round of craft beers brought us so much squeals of delight. We were spoiled for choice with their creative options at reasonable prices (~$16-18) My favourites - in order Fermentation Two - complex tones both sweet and bitter, strong fermentation taste Zeffer Apple Crumble - a dessert drink like your cider but mixed with sweet cinnamon, vanilla and blackberry tones. Anytime Ipa - an easy drink thats bittersweet Acai & Passionfruit Sour - reminds me of cold pressed fruit juice / a mix of sweets. Delightful nevertheless Industrial chic comes with its cons too, chairs too stiffy to stay for a long round of beers

1 For 1 Super Balanced Chicken Rice Set Tried their 1 for 1 Super Balanced Chicken Rice Set which includes an espresso shot. We paid a total of $19 for the 1 for 1 set, but were left puzzled for 2 reasons. 1) On their menu, the chicken rice was $15 while an espresso shot is $3. Total price for the set should not cost more than $18. 2) The 1 for 1 set came with 2 Super Balanced Chicken Rice but only 1 espresso shot. We checked with the staff and was told this is right. Even with the Burpple Beyond 1 for 1 deal, we didn’t think this was worth it.

For Bottled Craft Beers to Go Located on the second floor of Holland Village Shopping Centre, Thirsty Craft Beer carries over 200 labels of bottled craft beers and ciders (from $5.90)! There are no beers on tap, so your only move here is to carry and go (there's a one dollar charge should you want to sit on one of the bar stools to sip your chilled beer). Zoom in on the wall of best-selling craft beers and look out for the Anderson Valley Poleeko Pale Ale ($7.40) and the Deschutes Fresh Squeezed IPA ($9.80) — both come highly recommended by the staff! To save time, we suggest checking the availability of the beers on their website before making a trip down. Thirsty encourages buying in six, 12 or 24-packs (mix and match is possible), and throws in bulk discounts to sweeten the deal — look out for those when you're getting drinks for your next beer party! Pro tip: Hardcore craft beer drinkers can subscribe to their three-month beer subscription box (from $178). You'll get a surprise box of six, 12 or 24 bottles of beer (classics and seasonals included) delivered to your doorstep every month. Photo by Burppler Hilary See
