Curry Mussels and Fries ($36++). Last evening I visited this new restaurant along Duxton, which is serving up good mussels at very affordable prices. These aren't the usual Australian mussels that we are so used to having, these are really good seasonal Bouchot mussels from France and across Continental Europe. 🔸 BTM Mussels is inspired by owner Olivier Bendel’s restaurants at the Léon de Bruxelles group in France, where he has developed 250 recipes for mussels. At Duxton, only seven of the most popular flavours are available at one time. But they're planning to rotate the flavours, so progressively they'll be serving more of the 250 recipes they've developed. 🔸 One of the seven flavours available at the moment is Red Curry. While it has some cream in it, this flavour also included white wine and butter in its mix, and some parsley and onions. It was served with crisp golden French fries, which will also come with any mussels ordered here. 🔸 But there were some other flavours that I like more than this curry mussels. I'll share it with you next time, or you can DM me if you're going soon, and I'll tell you what to order. 🔸 [Tasting] #btmmussels #sgfood #iweeklyfood #whati8today #eatoutsg #sgfoodporn #foodpornsg #sgigfoodies #singaporeinsiders #sgeats #foodsg #singaporefood #burpple #hungrygowhere #instafood_sg #exploresingapore #foodiesg #singaporeinsiders #burpplesg #sgbakery #foodstyling #seafood #jiaklocal #pastry #frenchmussels #sgbrunch #bluemussels #brunchsg #breakfastsg

For 500g Mussels & Fries (save~$35) Get your hands dirty and your bellies filled at this spot on Duxton Hill. You're here for the small but incredibly sweet French Bouchot Mussels ($36 for 500 grams). Have them done Marinieres-style — white wine with butter, parsley and onion. Otherwise, go for the Thailandaises, a satisfyingly spicy rendition with chilli, Kaffir lime leaf, lemongrass, white wine and coconut milk. Photo by Burppler Victoria Hii

Here's where you get your mussels fix - BTM Mussels & Bar. There are a few variations to try, but if you're starting out, do try the classic version of white wine, fresh cream, bacon and mushrooms. At the end of the meal, dump the fries in to soak up the sauce, and it's another dish!

Beef Ragu Spaghetti $23+ A satisfying bowl of pasta with many pieces of beef. Beef was not as soft as I expected it to be but was still marinated well and tasty. Was happy with the ratio of pasta to beef as it was just nice, unlike some places where they give few pieces of meat! The base of the pasta was very tasty too and was not too oily. The spaghetti doesn’t really absorb the sauce so remember to scoop some sauce to accompany the pasta to maximise the flavour. Portion wasn’t too big too but enough for me, but still a little pricey after burpple beyond. Food came very quickly though, which was great because I was hungry. Free water provided too :)

impossible burger $24+ The cheese veggie patty was super tasty and full of flavour despite it not having any meat. It was soft and juicy. The bun was buttery and soft. Fries were crispy and had quite a generous serving, along with the salad. There was no gst but service charged was charged for both items when using burpple beyond, so paid around $14.5 for this in the end. Not super cheap but was a good try. Might come back to try the other items as they looked interesting.

Chocolate Pappardelle Curioused by the reviews of this dish, I finally went to try it out. It tasted weird on the first mouth but okay on the second and subsequent. You can't really taste any chocolatey taste in this dish and yea, more like beef stew hor fun kind of thing. Interesting to try but not my dish. By the way, service was bad as the staff ignored our request several times to change seat due to strong air con wind when she actually said she will check but never ever get back. We got our seats changed immediately after asking another staff. Upon food served, the menu and reservation tag on our small 2 pax table were not taken away by staff. Another couple came in and took over the 'cold seats' requested to the 1st staff mentioned for a change of seats too and I saw her walking away with her eyes rolling. Seriously? Upon asking for bill, I saw the staff looking at our table, supposedly to confirm what we ordered, keying in the bill at the POS machine but carried out other tasks half way after another staff asked her to help with serving food. I bet she forgot our bill because she went on with wiping glasses after. No, they were not understaffed. We ended up walking up to the cashier to pay our bills after a while of waiting because she clearly forgotten our bill. Will not return again.

Forlino Does NOT deserve 2 Stars by Wine&Dine The best thing about this place is the location and the view. Maybe it’s not fair to judge a restaurant just by referring to the Valentine’s Day set menu ($178++ for non-front row tables) and dining experience, but based on that, it doesn’t rank among the top 15 Italians in Singapore. Portions are Lilliputian, none of the dishes is a wow, and the dessert is too dry. The menu said “lobster risotto”, but it’s really crayfish!!?! I remained hungry and was tempted by the idea of buying French fries at OverEasy downstairs. Service is not terribly proactive - one must ask for water refills several times during the meal. After opening the wine, the waiter asked “would you like to test, or should I just pour?” In a restaurant of this calibre, you don’t ask this kind of question - more training is called for! Cheaper restaurants would present a flower to lady guests, but not here! Forlino is a case of marble pricing but linoleum food and service. Chef Osvaldo Forlino’s No Menu restaurant is not great, but better than Forlino.

Review: Wheeler’s Yard Tried the Porky Bowl + Ginger Lemonade [$24+/set]. I would say the drink is an acquired taste (My partner wasn’t too fond with the taste actually, but I’m okok with it). The Porky bowl is like any other Japanese Don, except the usual Pork Katsu is replaced with Bacon, which I have no complaints about since bacon is always good. But the steep price may deter me from going again, unless I use the burpple 1 for 1 to offset the cost.

60 Deg Chicken Breast ($18.90+) The dish is amazing. The chicken was tender even though it is the breast meat. The mashed potatoes exceeded my expectation and it had a very good consistency. Worthwhile to try with the burpple 1 for 1, otherwise price may be a bit steep (although the price is the usual cafe price).

Branzino ($48++). Perfectly seared and roasted Mediterranean seabass. This was taken during a dinner tasting, and they got it precisely right again on another version of their seabass, during my second visit with colleagues. I got to understand that this seabass was first seared skinside down (hence the crisp skin), then finished in the oven to fully cook the fish while retaining the crisp in its skin. 🔸 This Branzino is served with zucchini in three forms - zucchini cream, zucchini blossom, and sauteed zucchini dressed with tarragon salmoriglio, a tangy and buttery house-made blend with orange zest and white wine. 🔸 The Tarragon emulsion was amazing here. It is a seabass stock prepared using the bones of the seabass, together with fresh tarragon. This lends a buttery, refreshing creaminess to the firm, sweet, textural fish. 🔸 Really enjoyed both my visits there. If you haven't been to Zafferano, do visit for the food and the gorgeous view of the Marina skyline. If you have already been to Zafferano, do visit again as Chef Andrea has just taken over the kitchen here to revamp the menu that reflects his illustrious career in Italy and several highly successful Italian restaurants. 🔸 I'll also be sharing selected dishes from the Chef's Tasting Menu soon. 🔸🔸 [Tasting] #zafferano #foodphotography #fujixh1 #exploresingapore #burpple #singaporeinsiders #eatoutsg #foodiegram #sgfood #foodsg #instasg #foodstagram #instafood #instafood_sg #hungrygowhere #cafesg #foodgasm #sgfoodblogger #vscofood #sgig #cafehoppingsg #stfoodtrending #sgjapanesefood #prosciutto #seabass #branzino #sgdinner #italianfood #italinfoodsg #tarragon

A Place to Impress Perched on the 43rd floor of Ocean Financial Center, it gives a grand view of the city and especially so during the golden hour. This dish <Manzo> is a charcoal grilled Angus beef tenderloin and you can definitely taste the intense smokey charcoal taste in your mouth (like it's still on the grill). Wiping up the tender cuts with the rich porcini mushroom and mash potato is just perfect.
