Garlic Grilled fish! Back at Tan Yu! Already lost count of how many times I have dined here! My family’s favourite food place! Got the fragrant garlic grilled fish this time round as still having sore throat/cough! They seem to have changed the recipe for the garlic! It used to be like soy garlic and is darker brown. Now it is like garlic butter and a very light yellow hue! It also comes with brinjals now! Lots of crispy garlic bits given too! We visited the Jewel Outlet and there is now a new $2.8++ per pax unlimited ice jelly dessert bar! You can take unlimited bowls of it and make your own dessert bowl however you want it! Quite VFM as we each had at least 3 bowls each!

Almond Milk Coffee Finally saw no queue at this local coffee / tea joint at triple one Somerset . The snaking queue at their Raffles Place branch always puts me off . The almond milk coffee intrigued me . It was actually Kopi with a scoop of almond powder . I actually found this combination oddly - good . Good to try new things sometimes and you may have an unexpected find 😍

Cookie $3 Unbelievable taste. Double choc was incredible Can't stop looking at it. 5 stars

Roast Beef Salad $9.20 Amazing!! Just look at the presentation. Matches any top restaurant. Beef was so good. Portion size huge. Complete value for money and healthy for under $10. 5 stars

Chicken Shroom Set $6 What a great value for money. Shroom Chicken sub with choice of 1 cookie and 1 drink. The shroom was really less, but honestly still worth the price. 4 stars

Vanilla Milk Tea (M) With Konjac ($5.20) Went at around 9.15pm and they were out of pearls! :( Wasn’t really expecting pearls in a bubble tea shop to be out so early, but I sucked it up (ha) and got the konjac jelly instead, which is yummy too - quite sweet on its own so I would keep that in mind in the future when picking the sugar levels of the drink. Being a big fan of vanilla, I had to try the vanilla milk tea. It tasted like the typical milk tea but with a subtle essence of vanilla. I do wish that the vanilla taste could be slightly stronger but the light vanilla accent of the drink was a great touch as well. I got it at 25% sugar level, which just nice for me because the konjac jellies were quite sweet too.

Lemon Green Tea Green tea with real lemon freshly squeezed on the spot! Asked for 25% sugar level and it was so sour!

Matcha Latte With Golden Bubble ($4.80) 0% sugar and less ice! Its been quite some time since i ordered the matcha latte at koi (or any bbtea shop for that matter) because well, they don't really do their matcha latte very well. I think so far, the bbtea places that do a surprisingly good matcha drink would be jenjudan. Anyway, i don't really know why but they don't allow you to have konjac jelly as a topping option for the matcha latte. If i'm not wrong, only the golden bubble is allowed. I think it has something to do with the gradient of the latte? I'll ask again next time 😅

Chicken Cutlet Curry Rice | $4.30 After eating this many times, I would say that this is pretty much a dish that wouldn’t go wrong. Honestly, it is an average plate of Hainanese curry rice with ingredients of adequate quality, but worth the price considering its setting in often air-conditioned malls. The chicken is crispy, although I always find it oddly pink (don’t worry though, I’m sure it’s cooked); while the egg is almost always overly-fried😂 the cabbage is soft, and the curry is thick and not too spicy, though I wish they could be more generous with drenching the dish in it! I don’t expect much from this dish, usually eating it for convenience as it is fast, easy, and one of the cheaper options in Encik Tan. There are easily way more better and nicer Hainanese curry rice elsewhere, but for non-picky eaters, this would be a convenient go-to. Rate:🌟🌟🌟

Mini Wok Noodle | $6 I think one must appreciate the importance of having food places like these in Town, because it is very much one of the few places you can have affordable food in comfort along Orchard Road. Surrounded by rather pricey restaurants all over town, Encik Tan is located on level B3 in 313 Somerset in a cosy corner, offering local fare at reasonable prices. The soup of the mini wok was tasty and extremely flavourful, with generous amounts of minced pork together with other ingredients like fish cake, fishballs, and egg. The noodles were also well seasoned with oil and chilli, albeit a little too oily. Rate:🌟🌟🌟🌟

Cereal Lotus Root Crispy with lots of cereal, addictive!

Yam Ring Fragrant & smooth yam paste in thin, crispy batter. Very generous portion of assorted vegs given, literally ate more than half of the ring myself 😋

Dry Truffle Ramen Truffle aroma is strong, love the crispy lotus root that comes with it, noodle texture is just nice too. One thing is it's way too salty for me but otherwise nice dish for Truffle lovers!

銀ダラ味噌鍋 $42 Gindara Miso Nabe hot pot with black cod, udon and vegetable seasoned with 2 years aged spicy miso, served with suju rice

チキンカツ丼 $20 Chicken Katsu Don rice topped with deep-fried chicken stewed in katsuo dashi, soy sauce, scrambled japanese eggs

牡蠣フライ 定食 $29 Kaki Furai Teishoku fried oyster with tartar sauce, served with rice set (rice, miso soup & pickles)

Sukiyaki Don Needless say more, the highlight of the dish was the piping hot thick sweet savory beefy sukiyaki sauce which mixes well with the rice making it a flavorful dish. But on a side note, the MSG seems to be a little on the high side.

If you enjoy edo-style sushi and omakase but could only visit the those top Japanese restaurants only very occasionally (just like me), then this is a great alternative at less than half the price. An edo omakase elsewhere would easily cost $300++ and above during dinners. 🔸 This is hidden within the ground floor interior of Tamaya Dining along Cuppage Road, with only 12 counter seats. Its flagship in Osaka is a three-time Michelin- recommended Bib Gourmand (2016 to 2018) restaurant with its consistent standard and quality. And I found the outlet in Singapore to be good too. 🔸 For the $140++ omakase, you get three appetisers, two seasonal sashimi, a seasonal dish, the restaurant's signature 10-piece nigiri sushi, a soup and dessert. There's also a $90++ option which comes with 10 pieces of nigiri sushi. And whichever option you choose, the sushi is prepared in front of you, and served by the chef a la minute. Dajia Taro Coconut Milk Get it in 0% sugar and it tastes just nice! The sweetness from dajia taro blends really well with the mixture of coconut and fresh milk. Love how it turns out to taste like yam paste! However, pls ensure the consistency as i have another cup which the dajia taro taste is not really strong. The unicorn pearl is very chewy, love how they use unconventional pearls here for a twist!

Strawberry Cold Foam Black Tea $2 Lightly flavoured strawberry milk foam over refreshing iced black tea - literal as it is. Good balance of both flavours. Pretty gourmet tasting to be honest. ☝🏻Tip: Opt for 0% sugar, it brings contrast to the lightly sweetened strawberry cold foam.

strawberry milk cute packaging and fresh drink!! The strawberry and the milk compliment each other and not overly sweet too. They also give some souvenirs when u order the strawberry milk, my brother got tissue pack while mine was some stickers
